ParticipantActually if you would like to upgrade your box, from newegg you can get:
A dual core e2140 (basically a core 2 with less cache) – http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?…N82E16819116037
ASRock 775 Motherboard with PCI Express but still uses your DDR RAM – http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?…N82E16813157114
and an HIS x1650 pro 256mb – http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?…N82E16814161037
for $200.80 shipped – $20 Mail-In-Rebate = $180.80 Shipped to your door (or in your case, the WCU mailroom)
and honestly that was just with a quick search; there are some great deals out there if you look around.

You’re not going to get anything remotely close to a gaming rig for less than $600, no matter how old it is.I actually have to disagree with you there; about a year and a couple months ago, I bought a whole desktop for $340 for my girlfriend with an a64 2800+, 512mb pc3200, 256mb radeon x800xl, dvd+rw, dvd-rom, 160gb SATA and 80gb IDE hdds, creative audigy, and windows xp home.
So yeah it is possible to find good deals you just gotta look around. I find the best sites to look for such a computer to be forums.anandtech.com, hardforum.com, and notebookforum.com, all under the for sale/for trade sections. You will have to dig around in there but there are usually some good deals to be had. Or you could always find the parts to just upgrade what you have; for ~$150 you could probably get a dual core pentium with a pci-express motherboard and maybe a 7600gs or something to that nature.
OR
go on to newegg.com and buy an AGP graphics card if you are tight on cash. More than likely the 4x AGP bus won’t hold you back *too* much. And yes 8x cards SHOULD WORK FINE in a 4x slot.

or if you prefer

Participant*edited* the pump has got to be the biggest noob gun; I don’t play source a whole lot but I read this thread and so much talk about the pump shottie and I was like whoa did I miss something? It was decent in 1.6 but not a noob gun. So I joined the server bought the pump and bam 3 kills the 1st round from med-long distances. WTF?!? I guess the pump is the new awp?

Participantwe should get something for donating x amount of money… dont know what tho so i guess ill just donate anyhow
I really should have made my donation contingent on us starting a zombie mod server…
Nickname
Participantyou know kuros, you are going to hell for not helping the poor guy get his money

Nickname
Participantyou do realize he posted back in december, right?

Participantwe should probably get more drinks … particularly pepsi since by about 9 we were out…

ParticipantAgreed, not only did TheGrammarPolice start a sentence with or, but technically it wasn’t even a sentence. See, for it to be a sentence, there has to be some sort of action in the form of a verb, which remains absent from his statement. It is a pity that our children will have to grow up with such incompetent grammar instructors…

ParticipantThis has been the case pretty much all year, just most people don’t take the time to tell adrian to open a port for them. oh well…

ParticipantThis looks like the kind of crazy thread I should post in to get my post count up… might get Kuros off my case

Participantback to the topic at hand…
I want fy_simpsons; its just a remake of some other map that I can’t remember the name of but I know I played the original on the gungame server before.

ParticipantThis really has nothing to do with this game, but has anyone here played STALKER? it looks cool but I haven’t had the money to dish out on it yet; this is only relevant because it’s another new FPS.

Participantahh a 4400; well i guess overclocking a dual core amd would be harder than a single core; but I still say that your memory is probably holding you back.
And yes I have every right to be a nerd!
Nickname
Participantjust an assumption on my part; but regardless I used to have an amd 3500+ (which is what I think you have) and I got mine up to I think 2563mhz; you should be able to push a higher fsb if you lower your memory speed
Nickname
ParticipantI don’t know what kind of card you have, but you will probably notice a larger performance improvement in games if you overclock your video card as opposed to your cpu
Nickname
ParticipantWell I had mine overclocked from stock 2.4ghz to 3.3ghz but didn’t try any higher (and I’m sure it can go higher)
Specs:
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz@3.3
Asus P5B-E P965 Motherboard
EVGA Geforce 8800GTS 640MB
2gb (1gb x 2) OCZ Platinum PC2-6400
2 x 160gb Hitachi Deskstar SATA2 in RAID0
Ultra X-Connect 500W PS
Antec Super Lanboy
Benq FP202W 20.1″ LCD
Logitech MX700 mouse
Ideazon Zboard & Logitech MX5000 keyboard

Hey guys – I’m fairly new to the gaming club/forums, but I was at the meeting last night (3/22) and heard all of the games voted into the next LAN and noticed there were no RTS’s included. I am a pretty big RTS enthusiast (mainly for Starcraft, as I follow the proscene quite avidly) and have fair knowledge of most of the other big names as well and would like nothing better than to have some sort of involvement for these games. As you may or may not know, WCG (the ‘olympics’ of competative games) votes on what games to include every year into their lineup. Starcraft has been voted without fail and with overwhelming majority every single year of WCG’s existance as the number one game on the list (even above counterstrike). It was suprising to me, knowing this, that WCU’s last LAN did not include this game or any other of the genre its selection.
I realize that an RTS tournament takes a fairly long time to complete (estimated three hours for only a 16-man tourny), but seeing as this is an important genre for competative gaming, would you guys be willing to incorperate it into the next LAN? I would be more than willing to share my knowledge of proper tournament setup and general help if needed.
thanks~
[Edit: The qualified games in question would be, in order of preference – Starcraft: Broodwar, Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, Dawn of War: Winter Assault, and Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs]
I like RTS games but I think that the majority of the gaming club is in solid favor of FPS only; however, I noticed in another thread that there does seem to be quite a bit of interest in Company of Heroes, so personally wouldn’t mind seeing that in a lan. The problem you are going to run into I think is people not owning the games; I for one only own warcraft 3 of the games you mentioned (and I am no good at it)
