ParticipantWell let’s consider I just built a computer with:
amd x2 5200+
gigabyte am2 motherboard
2gb g.skill ddr2-800
320gb WD SATA hdd
20x Lite-on SATA DVD burner
evga 8800gts 320mb
aspire x-dreamer 2 case w/powersupply
for $775; so let’s reevaluate your pricing:
case: $110
motherboard: your mobo doesn’t support core 2; $50 max
cpu: you can buy an amd 3800+, faster than the p4 650 for $50 new
cpu fan: wouldn’t consider it much of a selling feature, but I’ll give it $35
PSU: its $100 new on newegg
RAM: I’ll go with your $35
HDD: ” ” $50
video: definitly old hardware at this point, maybe $80
sound: you can buy an x-fi for $50, yours is worth more like $30
tuner: $50
modem: $0
DVD drives: $25 each
floppy: $7
mouse/keyboard: GE? I’ll give it $25
OSs: $0
Ok that brings our new total to: $672; I’d say you could probably get $700 for it. But wait, my $775 machine is faster in every way… I’ll let you draw your own conclusions about that.
Sucks how fast computer parts depreciate doesn’t it?

ParticipantI dunno, guess it depends on the map but I’ve tried every class and none of them strike my mind as my favorite, though I can say I’m not fond of demoman or heavy, engineer and medic are both just kinda boring imo, and I suck as sniper. The others (scout, spy, pyro, soldier) I guess are my favorites, though I do like to change up my class from time to time just to get some variety

ParticipantI can’t even tell who won lol

ParticipantFirst, I want to say thanks to everyone who helped make this lan a huge success, it was really fun!
Now, a couple of gripes: first was about the networking issue we had, but that was really networking’s fault. Unfortunatly though, that pretty much ruined the zombie mod tournament. Since we didn’t have much time to stick it in because of the networking problems, it was riddled with bugs and very short which really made it sorta “meh” at best.
The only other thing that bothered me was restarting the CS:S tournament halfway through because “it wasn’t fun for the terrorists.” Well whether you are on the willing or losing team it doesn’t matter as long as you’re in the top 10; but THEN you decide that, instead of just restarting the tourney on the same map with everyone autoassigning, you change the map as well? I mean I personally didn’t think that was fair because it made me go from being 3rd on my team when you decided to change maps (11-0) to me being last on my team when you changed maps, keeping me from advancing. Now I understand there are things that can go wrong, but when it is announced that we are “live”, we shouldn’t decide to restart the tournament 8 rounds later because some people aren’t doing well.
Ok so as I was saying thanks to everyone! I can’t wait for the next lan!

ParticipantI have yet to see any fliers, though I haven’t been looking for them. Of course, this will be the typical case for people that don’t already know about the lan. Also remember I don’t live on campus, so I would never see fliers in dorms, only academic buildings, where EVERYONE has to go at some point (at least theoretically lol)
As a side note, my freshman year I remember there being flyers EVERYWHERE, this is how I found out about the club so I am a big fan of the flyers to help recruit new people.

ParticipantTF2 ROCKS!!!! ORDER IT NOW!!!
Nickname
ParticipantI’m not sure how the club has turned 100.1% toward source only… last time I checked, all our servers and lan games are chosen by POPULAR VOTE.
Nickname
ParticipantWay to not understand a blatant joke. If he wanted 1.6 gone, he would vocally say that, but we UNANIMOUSLY decided to keep the 1.6 server at the last meeting.
He was jokingly pointing out some of the flaws in 1.6, but its not like he isn’t as vocal about source. If he honestly wanted people to hate 1.6, why did he switch gungame from source to 1.6 for the lan? Why does he play gungame fairly often? Just because he prefers source doesn’t mean he can’t joke about 1.6 having obvious flaws.

ParticipantA) since you are buying from steam, no keys are directly involved; if the DVDs you have are not already registered on steam, you can go ahead and give those up I guess
You don’t get the games until the Orange Box is actually released (October 10th), at that time, there will be a little gift box next to the games you bought a multiple of, you can click the box and send the game to someone’s e-mail address, where they can add the game to their steam account. So basically everything is based on steam accounts, not CDs/DVDs or keys or any of that nonsense.

ParticipantI preordered and tried the beta today and it f$%#ing rocks!!!
Definitely worth it to preorder, plus you can gift hl2 and hl2:episode 1 to a friend if you already have them

Nickname
ParticipantWell I don’t know if this helps you at all, but my friend just upgraded his old gateway:
p4 2.8, 1gb ddr, x800xl agp, 120gb ide hdd
to
athlon x2 4400+, foxconn am2 motherboard, 2gb ddr2, 8600gts pci-e, and 320gb sata hdd for ~$400 altogether.
Might be somethng you want to consider to bring your computer into the 21st century 😀

Participantwell I know it won’t be me, even tho I would go, cause I suxorz
Nickname
ParticipantI really like the idea of either randon or reverse, but i agree, make the nade last.
The problem with the order that we have now is that if someone gets ahead a few rounds its usually gg b/c their guns are so superior to what everybody else has. If you did the reverse order, then advancing in levels would slow as you get higher in level, keeping the competition closer.
But yeah thats just my opinion
Nickname
Participantbut it WAS still pretty terrible… though it saved me from elimination 1 round

Nickname
Participant… except i was talking about masterp…
Nickname
Participantupgrading to an awp? thats all you use now isnt it?
Nickname
ParticipantI almost can agree that 1.6 is more a “hardcore” game while source is more a casual fun game. But I’d rather have fun anyday

Nickname
Participantno i think its b/c ppl are cheap; even my crappy laptop can play sauce.
Take potion#9 for example, he has a system more than capable but he is too cheap to spend $20 for CS:S.
Besides, we all know that 1.6’s physics are OMGWTFBBQ so much better than source!
Nickname
Participantthe real question is where did that awp shot hit?
left arm ftw
Nickname
Participantor hey, maybe points aren’t everything?
Nickname
Participantyes throw in flash!
Nickname
ParticipantBitey, that is some old info; check newegg, the q6600 can be had for a whole $55 more than the e6600, making it the much better deal.
And masterP needs the extra manhood, check out his avatar haha
Nickname
ParticipantI’ll make you a good deal on my e6600 for your pentium D plus some cash

Nickname
Participant2 things:
a) don’t waste your money on that pci slot cooler! I have used them before and they do almost nothing!
why are you buying the e6600 instead of the e6750? I see no reason for that unless your motherboard doesn’t support the 1333mhz fsb of the e6750 (its cheaper than the e6600!). If that is the case, I will gladly sell you my e6600 at a good price so I can buy the e6750
Oh also about the videocards… I would say go ahead and get the cheaper one, you can always overclock it yourself
Nickname
ParticipantWell my first question would be what resolution does your monitor run at? If you’re running at 1280×1024, there’s no reason to get the 8800gtx instead of the the 8800gts.
Its been my experience that the 8800gtx runs ~25% faster on most games (on resolutions >= 1440×900 in games that are not cpu bound), at ~25% higher cost, making them basically linear on the price/performance curve.
Therefore, my suggestion would be to go for the 8800gts unless you are running resolutions of at least 1600×1200 or your cpu is something along the lines of the core 2 duo e6600 or higher, so that you are not running into a situation of your games being cpu bound.
Likewise, if you have a high end cpu and run at higher resolutions, I would suggest spending the extra for the 8800gtx as the difference should be noticeable especially on games like bioshock.
Just fyi a lot of the gaming club members I talk to have either the 8800gts or the 8800gtx so they are both really good cards and the brand preference I’ve noticed is eVGA (lifetime warranty ftw!). If you need benchmarks, I can get a couple for you but from my memory, MasterP and I ran a benchmark on CS:S:
everything maxed with 8xAA and 16xAF,
my computer: e6600, 2gb ram, 2x160gb raid0, evga 8800gts 640mb, @ 1680×1050, cs:s test gave my computer ~ 189 FPS
MasterP’s computer: q6600, 2gb ram, 2x250gb raid 0, evga 8800gtx, @1440×900, cs:s test gave his computer ~220 FPS
Hope this helps!

ParticipantYeah do whatever just make sure your idea is worse than mine cause I need some $

ParticipantABritt: wasn’t referring to you, my comment was in general

ParticipantI have to agree the crosshair i think is in bad taste.

Participant8th grade photoshop work?
Considering I was trying to use GIMP and have no clue how, I’ll take that as a compliment
