This is fun as hell. Kuros and I just played a few rounds and it pretty much kicks *edited*. Even if it is a Beta, it still kicks *edited*. People should pick this up and play it some, even play it at the LAN while in between games and such.

Yeah I’ll have to reinstall it. I think I am going to upgrade to Vista this weekend and once it’s upgraded I’ll reinstall DoW and we can play some.

    Haha wow.

in reply to: Warhammer 40K Dawn of War and Expansions #19051

You know I have it, hell I introduced you to the game, I just need to get around to installing it again haha.

Congrats on longest post in the spam thread. Lol

Did you ever play Total Annihilation, Kappa? TA wasn’t ever really a quick-paced game but could become one if managed well enough, like Age of Empires. I haven’t played Supreme Commander but I really hope it still has the feel of TA.

CnC sounds great though, I’ll definitely have to pick it up this summer or sometime soon.

in reply to: Just Saying Hi #19034

I need to get CnC3… let us know how it is in the PC gaming forum or whatever, Kappa.

CnC3, STALKER, and Supreme Commander is the list so far..

Warcraft 2 was on Playstation? I bet that was a failure, RTS for consoles is horrid.

Yeah, it was pretty craptacular :(

in reply to: Guild Wars #18951

I have the original but not the expansion, I’d be willing to give the Original another try or two.

    Kuros: No monthly fees and if you borrowed my copy that would mean I couldn’t play at the same time, I don’t think >_>;

in reply to: Help with BF2142 #18923

Have you given BF2142 the sufficient privileges to run and such, thus allowing Punkbuster to scan?

in reply to: Help with BF2142 #18919

I need to install my copy of Vista… *edited* MY MONITOR DYING ON ME.

Most of what is turning up from a Google search relates back when Vista was in beta’s, RC1/RC2, etc. What is the error Punkbuster is giving you, as there seem to be different errors?

in reply to: RTS in Lan? #18868

We’d probably have to go with one, maybe two if there is enough support for it. Strategy game tournaments last for a while and trying to run and organize 3 at once or even 2 at once is a bit much.

Although I’m really wanting to download Warcraft 2 now :D.

Most people have 5 or more button mice now. You’ll actually find that the best button in CS for voice com is mouse4, the one on the side. You don’t have to move at all, since your mouse thumb rests in that area naturally on a popular mouse like an intelli explorer, g5, or mx518.

That config is pretty cool for most people. Looking through it, it mostly just wants the game to run faster and less pretty. The pwnasaur does just fine with everything maxed out and the pwnasaur wishes to keep it this way :P

Ewwwwwww. I have my voice key bound to V on the keyboard, reload/jump/etc on the mouse as it is right there at your fingertips. Voicecom on the mouse? Ewww

I may test out this config a bit later when I get my new monitor and keyboard in, which will be tomorrow >

in reply to: Heads up for the LAN. #18686

It takes 30 seconds for people to change sides :P. Two halves of say 8 rounds each wouldn’t take long at all.

in reply to: Heads up for the LAN. #18678

Mill and Tides then. Mill is a very well balanced map, even with a large amount of people and Tides is a great map to play with two teams of 5.

What I think should happen though, possibly only for the round of 10, is to have the two teams switch sides to eliminate the possibility of a map being too one-sided, etc.

Yeah I’ve heard Supreme Commander is excellent too, I’ll have to pick it up this summer.

    Same with AOE2 :P

in reply to: Mario Kart 64 and 007 64 at the LAN #18626

Also make sure the joystick isn’t completely loose on the 64 controllers, that’s HUGE.

in reply to: RTS in Lan? #18600

I’ve often thought of the possibility for a RTS game to be supported and a tournament ran for the LAN but just decided that there wouldn’t be enough support to run an actual tournament. As Kuros and others have stated, allowing the game to be played by many at once isn’t easy with the newer games. Most newer games would require activation online and all kinds of hoops that people would have to jump through. Older games and possibly more popular games such as Starcraft and Age of Empires 2 would be a lot easier and plausible to install on people’s computer’s. I know I could provide the Age of Empires 2 and The Conqueror’s expansion CD’s as well as install it on several different people’s computers, and I’m sure Zapling could install Starcraft on people’s computers, just it depends on the interest of people.

how do u know people at Ensemble?

As I said, I won a few tournaments back when AoE, AoE2, etc came out. Also, I was a large contributer to a lot of fansites and such and become a moderator for one of Gamespy’s Planet sites, for Age of Empires. The admin for the Planet Age of Empires site is a good friend of mine and just recently graduated from Virginia Tech and is now working at Google. Through him, the tournaments, websites, etc I came in contact and became friends with a lot of the developers and game testers at Ensemble Studios. I’ve played other games with them such as BF2 and even was pulled into WoW by them, joining their guild which was completely full of Ensemble employees.

in reply to: Later Ya’ll #18567

You could always take it to NCSU’s IT Services and have them format it and reinstall Windows for you. Then you’ll be able to continue playing and your computer will probably be running even faster than before :P

in reply to: Popping in #18535

Brian and Kuros give a lot of really good tips to start off with and become better with, as well as Falcon amazingly. I’d have to completely agree with the both of their points but to change up and add a few things as well.

The P228 is a great pistol, great for rushing and pretty good when not. If you’re going to go for a long-ranged attack situation (awp, scout, etc) get a DEagle. If you’re not going to rush, get a DEagle. The DEagle has a better accuracy when firing from long distances, its damage is more potent and has a better overall effect from a distance. Up close the DEagle lacks the ammo in clip and the firing rate.

As much as you probably don’t want to, pick up an AWP or a Scout. AWPing and Scouting is possibly one of the best things to do to quicken your reaction times. The faster you can react to an enemy crossing your crosshair, the faster you can react to them with an AK/Colt. Not only will AWPing and Scouting help you overall with your reaction time, it will help with knowing the wherabouts if your team as well as the enemy. If you sit some place with the AWP while your team goes another, more than likely you’ll get flanked and killed easily. Depend on your sound, through and through. Sound will save your life countless amounts of time, whether you hear people coming or whether you hear gunfire in another direction.

Throw flash bangs and smokes. I’m terrible at this sometimes myself, but learn to throw flash bangs and smokes -all- the time. You’ll learn that 9 times out of 10 when you throw a flash, someone is going to be flashed. If you think the enemy is there, throw it. Them being blind is only an advantage to you.

As Kuros said, use bursts. Far distances use a burst with the AK/Colt. Typically a 3-4 round burst starting at the chest of an enemy will end up going straight to the head. Go play on some aim_ak-colt maps and learn to hit from a distance. The quicker you learn this the more often it’ll save your life.

Quicken your R/T, learn the maps in and out, depend on sound, and use burts. It’ll help you out in the long run.

Once you feel good enough, I suggest getting on IRC and on Gamesurge, go to #findsourceringer and play some Scrims with some clans. Scrimming and playing in matches will increase your skill 10-fold. Learning to play with a team and not bait your team is crucial to the survival of yourself, and your team.
