SC2 should be Bo3 until Finals, which should be Bo5. All matches should be saved so we can put them up on youtube as VoD’s and we should be able to download them off of the forums and results pages. If people want to participate in the SC2 tournament they should know the time that some matches take (30-45min maybe) and if they choose to participate they should know that they may not be able to play in other tournaments. Observers should be allowed both in and out of game but if any “ghosting” happens (such as telling someone they have a proxy outside of their base or if someone is going stalker vs. marauders, etc etc) then the person caught ghosting should be banned and a warning given to the player that received the tip and the game replayed.

HON is a standalone game based off of DoTA, which was a WAR3 mod, not WoW :P.

If only these were ran by better companies such as MLG, but too bad MLG doesn’t give a *edited* about CS/etc anymore.

You keep people on the server by giving them what they want. The FFN community is huge and gives donators, etc all kinds of perks/etc. I know they have some sort of redirects up as well that ALWAYS show their servers at like, 35/36 full 24/7 so people will continue to join. Their rotations are 9/10 PL maps, CP maps just arent as fun for the mass community. Their ranking system is pretty awesome, and relatively simple, but the auto-balance of teams plus auto-assign, donator hat perks, etc are all things that keep people coming back, along with stable servers and a low ping. They have a gigantic forum for people to post on, etc.. would be awesome to get some of that here.

That’s all well and good so let’s break it down.

    Redirects? Don’t exist for Source-engine.

    PL rotation? Tried it.

    CP maps? Tried them.

Good ranking system? Still have one.

    Autobalance? Still have it.

    Autoassign? Got complaints.

Donations? Not going to happen with this crowd.

    Stable server? Yep.

    Low ping? You betcha.

The reason we don’t have populated TF2 servers is because they aren’t already populated, redundant reason is redundant but that’s just how servers work now. People aren’t going to join an empty server. You can have the best server on the planet but if it’s empty no one’s going to care. What we need is for people to quit *edited*ing around and making excuses and actually bring people into the server and get it populated again.

If you care about getting TF2 populated, stop playing SC2, WoW, and MW2 and make it happen, otherwise it’s just a rehash of everything we’ve heard before.

I don’t know how the redirects work then, because I see the servers as 31/32 and then try to join and it will be 0/32, with only myself in it.

CP maps don’t work, only a few such as MAYBE dustbowl and some others, a “Back to Basics” server would be fantastic. 24/7 PL servers also work decently well.

The ranking system/points system was HLStatsX, do we still use it?

Autobalance I know is on, just noting things they have.

Autoassign people will QQ about but as a “donator perk” they won’t ever get balanced and they can like “prefer” which team they want to be on, so that autoassign puts them on that team.

Donations would work, maybe not with “this crowd” but with TF2 people they donate all the freaking time. They want the hats, they want the invincibility at the end of a round, they want no auto-balance, etc. etc. etc. http://www.freefrag.com/index.php?pageid=perkben

I know our servers are stable and have a low ping, hence why I think we could get it to work.

Yeah, once things get populated it would help, but also putting out consistent announcements over Steam to populate the B2B server, etc would be good as well as just continuing to play in it. The problem is just randomly sitting in it blows :(. FFN also advertises their other servers in the other servers, including the amount of people in them, join now, etc. Radio is also available, etc etc etc…

Sounds good to me, I like the way things are goin so lets get the ball rollin on all the new stuff! Felix if you start populating the TF2 servers a ton like FFN and such do then maybe we can get donators and such? Hats, perks, etc. Lets get some research in on this stuff ^^

in reply to: Server Improvements #104938

Doesn’t Minecraft take up a *edited*ton of resources and would end up crashing the box if we left it running 24/7?

Also, the “tactics” may not be “worthy” or whatever to get people to come into a server but if you saw a full server vs. an empty one, which would you want to try to play on? FFN and FuG do it too, they show servers as full 24/7 but they aren’t.

Mitch and Tallgeese are already in contact with ITS about SC2, I believe Stephen has told Tallgeese that nothing on the campus has blocked the ports for SC2 and the new filtering software shouldn’t be doing it, but would like someone to play with him sitting hearby and running a packet sniffer or something on it to try and figure out what is happening, perhaps packets being dumped into the trash folder on accident and causing the frustrating lag.

in reply to: Server Improvements #104935

More TF2 servers would be awesome, I play on FFN/FuG/etc all the time and wish that the WCU servers could become something like this, maybe even a donator perk thing as well. Would be absolutely amaaaazing for us to have, sounds great!

The L4D/L4D2 servers would have to be reduced? Isn’t the new box under essentially no load right now and could easily accommodate more servers?

The redirects are basically it showing the CS1.6 server as full or almost full to get more people to come in, as they see it as almost full when it isn’t.

Yeah I just played a game at almost 4 *edited*ing clock in the morning and lagged like complete *edited*. This is total *edited*ing bull*edited* as NOTHING else lags on this stupid *edited*ing campus right now except SC2, and it isn’t even a consistent *edited*ing lag but more of a here again, gone again bull*edited*.

Stephen already has said that no ports are blocked on it and that “it isn’t blue shield (or whatever it is called) causing the lag” but I call complete *edited*ing bull*edited* on this. There are packets being filtered or put in the wrong *edited*ing place for it to be this laggy.

in reply to: Lemm’s Idea: They Stolez It #104901

I’m not a fanboy of MW or any of the CoD series of games, I don’t even own MW2 because I hated everything about it. The gameservers announcement was only made two days ago and I hadn’t read about the monopolization of the dedicated servers that Gameservers is going to have along with the restriction of modding. Treyarch has indeed confirmed though that the Developer Console as well as Modding Tools will be available in CoD:BO and that always leaves a ray of shining light amongst the community. The point of me pointing out that Treyarch is utilizing a mod as part of their main game is that they are doing more to listen to the community and implement things that people want rather than just ignoring the fans and releasing whatever they wanted. When the gungame feature was revealed CS fanboys were outraged that Activision “stole” the idea, and my point was that it was a mod and to get over it, it isn’t a “CS only” thing.

in reply to: Lemm’s Idea: They Stolez It #104898

It isn’t stealing, lol. Gungame isn’t a CS only thing and it is quite cool that developers are even thinking of putting it in a game as a standard feature, something modders don’t have to create for the game. CoD:BO will actually support modders, dedicated servers, etc. Treyarch actually is showing their attention and commitment to the community instead of IW’s complete ignorance and bull*edited*. I’m happy to see that Treyarch implemented this, especially instead of possibly adding it as a $15 map pack/dlc, and think that the CS kids need to get over themselves, gungame may have originated from CS but CS isn’t the only thing that can run it and have it. Cry more and be happy people are noticing the community.

Apparently Guilty Gear was ran and well-ran and popular at the last lan, it could be a tournament we could have on the side and something anyone can step in and play with or without bringing their PC. I don’t know the logistics of it about whether you play it on the same screen or if you play online, etc but if it is popular and well-ran, as well as getting people to attend future events, then its fine by me.

How many people did we have at the last lan for CSS? And the lan before that as well? If there is popularity for it then I would think that both could be supported.

Blame Daniel (Tallgeese) he was the tie-breaker! :P

Honestly though if we can bring in a lot of people wanting to play it at the LAN and Guilty Gear is a hassle to setup, etc then I predict we’ll see CS being played again. The interest in CS has just been lackluster at best, there just isn’t as many people who play it anymore.

Also Ephraim I hate you, I showed up late and you forgot to add me QQ :P

Just lost, again, because of Western’s *edited*ty *edited*ing packet filter. I was absolutely dominating a guy, wiped out his main and everything, but because he transported to a *edited*ing corner and I hadn’t tech switched to air yet, he was able to sit there and wait/turtle up with about 6 void rays, and counting, until the timeout finally ticked to 0 and he kicked me and won. *edited*ing most bull*edited* ever, I hate this god *edited* internet and this *edited*ty *edited*ing college’s packet filter that they can’t even *edited*ing configure correctly.

in reply to: Strcraft 2 on campus #104822

Yeah I just played a ladder match at like, 4:45 or so and had 0 lag. I got conned into a couple of custom games with a friend and lagged a little bit, then started playing another ladder game at like 5:30-5:45 and lagged the entire way through it, absolutely killed my micro and macro.. couldn’t do *edited*. I don’t know if that’s due to the custom games I was in that then lagged me or if it was due to the time or something, but this is getting *edited*ing stupid. Wtb lagless game =/

The club used to have a club e-mail address that you should have access to. If you ask one of the Root Admins or ex-presidents they should be able to tell you how to access it and the info to access it.

in reply to: Strcraft 2 on campus #104808

Hey there, much like everyone else has said, welcome to the forums! I too have had LOTS of troubles playing SC2 but lately have had little to no problems playing ladder matches. It may just depend on when you are trying to play it in conjunction with the school’s new filtering software. I’ve also noticed that after a few games of Nexus Wars, etc where it lags like *edited* I can go into a 1v1 and it will be absolutely fine. Are you mainly trying to play team-based modes?

in reply to: First Gaming Club Meeting Fall 2010 #104800

Well since I won’t be able to attend the meeting (or at least not for very long, still don’t know if I’ll be there at all) but still would like to be considered a member and since I am currently on campus as a student I was hoping to be able to log in and partake in the meeting over a conference call or teamspeak or something, including the ability to vote >

Also yeah, Blazblue and Brawl take forever to run simply because of the amount of people and even the consoles. I don’t hate the game and actually own a copy of Calamity Trigger, just can’t stand playing it 24/7, haha. I’ll be able to bring my copy and once I get my financial aid to buy Continuum Shift, that as well haha. When Halo: Reach comes out it would be AMAZING to have a semi-launch party for it, maybe even getting the multipurpose room for it in the UC or something over a weekend if we’re able to, since it will ONLY feature Halo: Reach. After Reach launches we can have tournaments and such for it later of course, and that will take a while as well. Halo 3 should still draw a decent crowd, hopefully, but I feel as though people may or may not be playing a ton of Halo and MW2 as they are waiting on Reach and Black Ops, respectively. Then again I could be completely wrong and people are playing the hell out of both games in anticipation, rofl.

We can’t leave some of the stable FPS out of our lans though, a lot of people attend just to play some of the games such as L4D2, TF2, and CSS. If there isn’t enough to field a proper lan when the lan actually is, we could swap them for games such as Worms Reloaded, if enough people own it.

I don’t think you noticed how extreme of an amount of personal bias I put into my post.

xD I kinda assumed but yeah, I just wanted to throw that out there of course.

Did we get some fliers out or anything btw?

Also, Tallgeese can we get a confirm or anything about IRC and Teamspeak during the meeting?

Also, nah I don’t hate you guys with the power of 10000 suns or anything, haha.

@Thor: You have a Shadowmourne? :P Who let you have one, god. My warrior alt is going to start working on getting one in our alt runs on Saturday though, she tanks for the alt group all the time so I’m next pretty much lol.

What % are you guys on HLK25? Wtb consistent raiders, consistent and GOOD holy pallies, etc… sigh

Also, Dustin, BFBC2 would be amaaaaazing to see at the LAN but I don’t know how many people have the game here on campus, I still want to see a BFBC2 server go up for us on campus. I don’t know how well of a tournament we could have for it though :(.

The new MoH is coming out in October, else it would be cool.

And yeah, my guild has been working on Heroic LK in 25 for far too long so we’re actually pretty close to killing him and my GM is getting *edited*ed at people who don’t show up, etc. I don’t want to get on his bad side right now >

When I ran my guild we raided at 7:30 so that’s why the previous times weren’t good and that’s why i would try to attend the meetings via IRC and Teamspeak. Now that the meeting is at 8:30 I’m screwed again and can’t vote :( lol. Would current students at WCU that cannot make it due to hardcore gaming (PEW PEWZ, ok maybe not THAT hardcore) or other reasons be able to attend via IRC/Teamspeak like in the past?
