ParticipantI game on both PC and Console. A PC is REQUIRED to be a student here thus being bias towards something EVERYONE owns is ridiculous. Owning a console on the other hand is an option and is for pure desire to play CONSOLE games. The fact of the matter is at the LANs people play what they want, and in most cases there is a bias as to what certain individuals want to play GAME wise, or platform wise. Everyone has their preferences, but for the most part we ALL get along and associate with one another. LANs are for games and having fun with like minded individuals. Why must everything be an argument or a desire to stir more drama? Lets get back to enjoying the games, running this Club and Community of gamers as stated by the constitution, and FFS quit with these essentially pointless threads.

I would like to add that i wish for future xbox360 tournaments to be announced like other tournaments. I was registered but the call was never made so i assume the only people allowed in the the tournaments were the ones jacking it in front of the console all day. Please correct this as i would like to participate in future LANs.
I agree that announcing said teams, or individuals as well as sign ups via the mic would be nice, but considering how often we wait for people to either show up for the match, or how hard it is to even track down the mic at most LANs, as there is always someone walking around with it in their pocket, the best way is to announce what we can around the actual 360 set-up, as about 90% of the tournament participants hang around the 360 tables.
And on a personal note, I don’t take to kindly to the comment about jacking it in front of the consoles all day. I bring over $700 worth of equipment to each LAN for OTHER people to use as well as myself, and I’m sure other do too, and unlike some people I don’t hoard it not allowing others to use it. So excuse me if I like to make sure my *edited* stays in one piece.

ParticipantWhat I truly find amusing about the “New” club’s argument is that they believe there needs to the in the WCU Gaming Club in order for it to grow and succeed. However, I have yet to hear or see what changes they are in fact talking about. As far as I’m concerned the only changed I’ve seen that have been needed with this club are changes in the “individuals” in certain positions, as apathy has grown far too much. I went to my 1st LAN in October of 2008 under Bitey no less, and attendance only got better from LAN to LAN under his leadership, but recently I have seen backwards trend under Kaz-Ka’s leadership. I’m not saying it is all his fault, advertising, and better dates go a long ways (scheduling I would agree is his fault). Personally I don’t feel there is enough attention prior to a LAN given to how tournaments will be ran, who will run them, and often times they are just run on a wim by individuals that aren’t even execs, which can be seen by a number of tournaments over the years on the console side of things. I know for a fact that myself and ExiLe, an exec now no less, have taken control of a number of tournaments because we have a lot of tournament, and MLG style experience way from WCU.
Change can be good, but it is not always the case. But running away from the issues, making a big scene that is no way to make change or even to object against it. Peaceful action, and discussion with an open mind is the only way for true success to be attained. WCU Gaming Club meeting’s are often a circle jerk, thus why I choose not to attend them, as I have better things to do with my time. You want a better club, look in the mirror, for selfish actions are no way to better this club or others perception of you.

ParticipantI’m entirely opposed to the idea of random teams. I know for the most part I come to these LANs to play with friends, some of which travel just to compete with their friends. The way things have been done in the past worked, going 4v4 teams, or sticking to the 2v2 format is perfect as is. The whole random set-up defeats the purpose of tournaments all together.

ParticipantDespite the rather large turnout and the fact that a lot of my close friends showed up (which meant a lot to me personally considering some of the family things I’m dealing with right now), I was generally unhappy with how some of things were run.
I personally ran the NCAA 09 tourney, which I was happy to play in, but at the same time it was probably the worst time of the year to play it considering most sports gamers minds are on Basketball and Baseball seasons, thus why I thought there was a rather small turn out. Gears, though not officially voted in, got shafted at the end of the night, and as a result there were a lot of hot tempers that went off in the process. Resistance 2 and 007 were very poor game choices, which was exactly as I had suspected back when I heard they were chosen in the first place.
And to be all honest, despite the fact that I had fun hanging out with my friends, unless things change with the game choices, and peoples mentalities and attitudes regarding said choices, this past LAN will probably be the last one I attend here at Western.

lol we had more for gunbound than for cod4 lol but yea I agree it was fun but you guys should play something you actually WANT to play instead of a bunch of people who don’t actually bring computers to play it on(me). Then the same should be said about the Console games. I bring my Xbox everyone LAN for others to play, and I bring my own television and speakers. I think we should definitely choose games that A ) People want to play and B ) Will draw in people. I always hear the argument that if you want to play a game at a LAN then show up to the meetings. I honestly don’t feel that is entirely fair. I know of people who come from the Beach, App St., Raleigh, Gastonia/Charlotte, and Hickory who would come to our LANs if there were better game choices, and its almost impossible for them to drive that far just to show up for a 2 to 3 hour meeting in the middle of the week. Just my two cents.

ParticipantAnother thing I have encountered, is that if you sign up for the NCAA 09 tourney it won’t allow you to register for any other tournies.

ParticipantI personally think it should be player choice. I don’t like the game pads myself.

ParticipantI honestly don’t find it funny, and a total lack of respect towards your fellow club members, regardless if you like them or not. Whomever did it just proves why this community is struggling my honest opinion.

ParticipantOk whats up with the crossing out of names and filling in with derogatory language. This is a little overboard and shows a lack of maturity.

ParticipantI don’t know about PCs, as I don’t know how many or if any App state guys come down for our PC tourney’s during the LAN. But lets not forget gentlemen that App State held their LAN on the exact same day. I know for a fact we usually have a number of guys come down from App for the Console tournaments, but because of the DATE, they remained up at App instead of paying for gas to drive all this way to compete in a tournament when they could compete in a sub-par one where they were at. As far as advertising I don’t think we can point any fingers here, as it seems that we have been having problems with it for a while now, regardless of who is in charge of the situation, and with that being said it comes down to more of a fundamental issue as opposed to any one individual.

ParticipantBTW Brenton, take Amplified off the Halo 3 Map rotation. I think we found out really fast at the last land that not everyone has all the maps downloaded on their boxes which will make it hard to play on Amp.

ParticipantLooking back at the Meeting Minutes, and being that I was actually at the meeting. GH3 was not voted in under any difficulty setting specifically, but it was agreed by all that if we wanted it to be a “competitive” tournament then the tourney warranting a prize would be the one with the hardest difficulty and the tourney with medium difficulty would be held in order to give everyone an opportunity to compete in a tourney and have fun without having to worry about whether or not they can play the hardest difficulty and feel left out.

ParticipantIf I am not mistaken the costume thing is for this LAN, since the December LAN will be held by Dell and will put us up against App State.

ParticipantReplace PC with console and Gunbound with Wii Bowling, in that entire rant outside of the first sentence and that is the point I wanted to prove by having Gunbound. Thats the most subtle way I can put it with out starting *edited* again.

ParticipantI’ve only been a “member” of this club for a few short months and Bitey has done a good job from what I can tell, and allows for people to at least get there opinions out on these forums instead of deleting the stuff before it gets too out of hand. Even from the meetings I’ve been to he puts up with a lot of BS, and wouldn’t even consider walking in his shoes leading this rather dysfunctional community. It’s pretty obvious Kuros, that you are very bitter about something that is between you and Bitey. I personally lead an online gaming community with members from across the North America, and with many members from this university. I too have to put up with a lot of drama and argueing, and I honestly apologize for the *edited* I’ve started, as I did take it a bit too far, and made it a personal vendetta.
As a leader of my community I was personally attacked regarding my personally life as well, and then some jerk hacked my forum and AIM accounts, criminal charges pending, but at the same time a lot of those people I don’t have to see on a daily basis, or ever at all, so I can only imagine how Bitey feels having to see a lot of the people who start *edited* on here on a daily basis and still keep a civil respect towards everyone, about himself.
As for Kip and Nickname, I’m a competitive person, and LANs to me are about playing the best competitive games and beating the best at them. I played High School sports, and even won a State Championship in football and thus thrive on competition. I stated in a prior post about my experience competing world wide in Guild Wars, and that I enjoy PC games casually, however Console is where I go to compete now since I don’t play sports much anymore. I personally think that though the club is both PC and Console gamers, games for the two should be chosen seperately as both groups have more invested in them and play them more seriously. Yes my push for Gunbound was to make a point, but at the same time I had every intention of playing in a GB tourney as well as everyone I suggested vote on it, but from what I’ve seen the PC guys would rather play something else, the same goes for Wii Bowling. Its a fun game don’t get me wrong but where is played on a competitive level and on a public stage outside of our living rooms with friends. Console gamers would rather play CoD4, granted Brenton (not all the console guys) decided to only have 2 FPS’s but he also was the one to nominate it for the Miscellaneous.
Anyways, to those I may have *edited*ed off, get used to it as I do it quite often. But I am sorry for making it somewhat personal. As far as Kuros, get over the past, take from someone that has been through a lot of *edited* in his RL (won’t get into it here, but my friends here know plenty about it), move past it, give people a second chance, and simply let dead dogs lie.
tF Death Omen
ParticipantWhy do I bother.
tF Death Omen
ParticipantActually if I’m not mistaken Nickname CoD4 was nominated for the miscellaneous so it still had a chance to get in as a tourney since we had so many people come out to play it, but it was you and kip that had a complaint during the meeting and had it removed. So PC had everything to do with it.
