ParticipantI perfectly open minded, but even at the meeting, as soon as Gunbound was mentioned it was like wtf, and when posted on these forums the complaints started almost immediately.

ParticipantI think my point in having Gunbound was proven when lootool suggested that Gunbound be dropped for CS:GG because the PC guys won’t be playing it. Which is the same reason we dropped Wii Bowling for SCIV, because we felt we would get more people to come to the LAN for SCIV and the Console guys would actually play in it. This time we have Wii Bowling in place of CoD4 from the last LAN, and I’ve already talked to 6 guys in my own building that won’t return to the next LAN because CoD4 isn’t being played and Wii Bowling is. If you want names for proof I can post them.

ParticipantAnd the mud slinging, complaining, and rude and smart *edited* comments in these threads were? I sat back and didn’t say much the entire time last time and tbh I’m sick of the the BS, excuse me for speaking my mind, but last time I checked I have a first amendment right to free speech, and I’ve done my best to keep my posts clean of profanity.

If this is the way it’s going to be from now on then maybe we need seperate meetings for game selection. The best idea I’ve heard to date and thats being brutally honest. And yes I am playing GB over brawl, and I know about 5 others doing the same. I hate Brawl, am not a big fan of the Wii, and thus why I wanted to play GB on top of making a point. TBH, I’d like to see you complain to my face and in person, instead of sitting back back during the meeting all quite then come on these forums and complain when its just you and your keyboard and nobody to argue with in person.

ParticipantNot to be a total jerk but I felt it was totally necessary considering the mud slinging in the tons of posts complaining that Wii Bowling was replaced by Soul Calibur IV when SCIV had the biggest turnout of any of the tournies at the last LAN. I sat here the entire time on the forum before the last LAN reading the constant whining and complaints and didn’t say a word, so in this instance when the complaining started I stepped up and put my foot down.

ParticipantThe download, and to sign up for a FREE account for Gunbound can be had here: http://gunbound.ijji.com. And tbh, yah the vote was to make somewhat of a point, but at the same time I am an avid PC gamer, as I’ve played Guild Wars competitively for 3 years now, and had an opportunity to go to Leipzig, Germany for the World Championships in 06 but couldn’t because of exams. So in general a bunch of us wanted a tourney to compete in that we would have a general shot a doing well in. The original suggestion was Guild Wars but I didn’t think it was fair because I would win it hands down, not to be *edited*y or anything, but then Gunbound was suggested because it is really easy to get into, its free, and like the PC guys having Wii Bowling we have our Gunbound now.
So if you have an f’ing problem with that, then you can come straight to me, because I personally find that Wii Bowling tourney is a waste of time and the money for a prize, when I can go up to the lanes in Sylva on any given weekday and for $5 can bowl 2 full games and call it a day. So you can live with our Gunbound, because I have to live with your stupid Wii Bowling tournament.

ParticipantSo how many people are going to be playing Gunbound, muahahahaha!

ParticipantI’d go to play H3 but with no team and no spare cash, it would be a useless trip for me.

ParticipantI don’t need numbers to be entirely honest I worked in electronics and KNOW who buys what from personal EXPERIENCE which includes working 8 months in Electronics at Wal-Mart (Our Department had the #1 Electronics Sales out of 6 Wal-Marts in the City of Omaha, including Video Game, and Console Sales) 4 Months at GameStop. I honestly don’t need numbers I have first hand experience.
tF Death Omen
ParticipantAgain you toss out stupid numbers without considering the demographic the game sells to. I posted this in the other thread if you’d bothered to read my post you wouldn’t have tossed out rediculously useless numbers and sales stats.
I’m not saying there may not be interest in the game, but please ffs don’t toss out statistics without doing a full analysis.

ParticipantI personally find it kinda sad that three pages of bashing, and complaining back and forth between the Consul and PC community came about because of the removal of two games, that I personally have no desire to play for reasons I choose not to disclose, that were from what I saw at the meeting, largely voted on by the PC guys which is fine I guess. I’ll admit I’m a big time 360 gamer, and I play ALOT of PC, but I almost know for a fact if I got a large number of people to vote to play Guild Wars as a PC tournament just for the simple fact of playing a casual tournament of GW, and it tied with a couple of the more popular PC games it would more than likely be tossed out, and not played at the LAN, and if you try to argue that it wouldn’t you’d be lieing to yourself and everyone in this community as very few people play GW on this campus, or at least the way I do.
I had my reservations with a number of things that were decided at the console meeting, but when I thought about it adding SCIV to the LAN would bring exposure to the PS3 (if you know me you know I hate SONY), which again would bring exposure to the club. I am also elected leader of a Multi-Platform Online Gaming Community that a number of people here on campus are members of called the Family, and as a result I have been trying to put together funds and T-Shirts to be a partial Sponsor for the Console side of the LAN, getting exposure of my own community and bringing more incentive for those who do come to compete and win. In general I find this entire arguement rather stupid and people argueing for the sake of having what they WANT, as opposed to argueing for whats BEST. I’m not saying that thats the case for everyone, but from reading everything and getting a general tone for the conversation that is what I’ve gotten.
This next part goes out to MasterP. I personally don’t know you, and tbh I really don’t care to, nothing personal. Have you worked in Sales of Electronic and Gaming Consoles, I know you do like numbers, and seem to have your grasp on typing into google and pulling them up, but have you actually worked and sold consoles and seen the general demographic each console sells to, and then think about who actually attends our lans. I worked in Electronics at Wal-Mart for 8 months, and even during the Christmas Shopping season. Yes Wii’s are #1 in Sales, but out of those Sales the general Demographic they sell to are Parents purchasing them for Young Children and for FAMILY CASUAL gaming, which accounts for 80% of Wii sales. The Xbox 360 and PS3 Reach out to the competitive Teen, College, and Middle Age Male Gamer, which is about every person that attends our LANs. So before crunching the numbers and tossing them out there please do a bit more in-depth research, and have a little bit more experience in sales.
————————————————
Oh btw, if they PC guys support the Console side of this community so much, why hasn’t one PC guys bothered to support my efforts on CGL to get more 360 games added for competition like I asked people so kindly to do over a month ago on the WCU page on their site. FTR don’t patronize me for the sake of your own personal benefit.

ParticipantI love how Guild Wars was never mentioned, but w/e, I can tell there is a lot of love for D2, but little respect for the MMORPG the developers of that fine game now work on. Its a shame, but I guess WoW’s cartoonish graphics, and constant grind win out.

ParticipantTBH to toss CoD4 to the side for the sake of adding SC4 because CoD4 tied with something is rather unfair for the guys who wanted to see it played in a tournament fashion. I have a number of friends who I have brought into the gaming club, and brought to the meetings as they were interested in playing CoD4 and seeing it get the recognition it deserves. My brother is also coming up from Charlotte that weekend to play in the CoD4 tourney. I just feel it would be extremely unfair to those who voted on and really want to play CoD4, especially since it got more votes, to be tossed to the wayside just for the sake of having a PS3 game. I’m with a number of people on this in that if the PS3 guys want it then they need to show up and be a member of the community outside of showing up for the LANs.

ParticipantI seriously wish they had Halo 3 on there, it kinda saddens me as I think we have a pretty solid team here on campus.
tF Death Omen
ParticipantI totally agree with this entirely. When Halo 2 first came out during our Freshman year we would often time have 4 or 5 rooms full of people playing a whole array of games against players through out the campus, in fact I met most of the guys I hung out with first through playing on the open lan. When the ports were closed it really hindered the ability to meet people from other parts of campus, and segregated the gaming communities to just within your own building, and often times people were forced to play on XBox Live which can often times ruin a person’s gaming experience, and chase people away gaming entirely. I think re-opening the ports for gamers would allow for a more openness of our Console Gaming community as a whole, and bring more people into the University via these opportunities.

ParticipantI like 3v3/4v4 more than anything. With doubles one player can carry the team and the other guy really doesn’t improve much, or learn from the experience at all, where as with a 4v4 or 3v3 type of format it requires a more team effort than anything else, and on top of that there is a lot more room for newer, less experienced players to learn from the better ones and improve. All of this is from my experience of course, back when we had our huge H2 tourney up in Reynolds my Freshman year, when the console community was huge, do to an open LAN, which no longer exists from what I’ve heard.
tF Death Omen
ParticipantI think a mini LAN early in the semester would be a great thing for all incoming freshman, and guys like myself who are just returning back to the University after some time off, if not just for some casual gaming and joking around.
