ParticipantI am a little confused as to why some of the Console gamers are angry. When they decided to switch Mario Kart for Guitar Hero, they got away with it. When they decided to nominate an unpopular PC game to prove a point, they have thus far gotten away with it. They are two for two. Why so angry? If it made sense for the Console President to change the console games to fit the needs of the console gamers, wouldn’t it make sense for a pc representative to change Gunbound to fit the needs of the pc gamers?
For the record, I’m not choosing sides, but can’t we be a little bit reasonable here?

Participantthank you Ephriam. Dark Omen, you can’t be mad about COD4 not getting voted in for consoles as the console people decided to limit to 2 FPS games; the PC people had NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT.

ParticipantI definitely agree with NoDice on the fact that people in this club need to keep an open mind to new game ideas for the LAN. Sure some people might not like the changes but in the long run maybe it will be for the better of the club.

ParticipantActually if I’m not mistaken Nickname CoD4 was nominated for the miscellaneous so it still had a chance to get in as a tourney since we had so many people come out to play it, but it was you and kip that had a complaint during the meeting and had it removed. So PC had everything to do with it.

Participantlol; consoles set a rule, then decide they don’t like it so they blame the PC people. classic.

Diplomatic response:Both sides make valid arguments. The console people have a point in that they know more about which games are better suited for console tournaments. The PC people have a point in that the rules set up by the constitution should be respected. Some compromises may be in order.
Honest response:
You all sound like a bunch of whiny babies. Seriously. Is any of this actually all that important? It’s a video game club! It’s not worth getting your *edited*s tied in a knot over! No wonder the club is getting a reputation for infighting. Now, compromise or something so I can finally make a thread that dosen’t end up locked.
This is very close to my opinion on the matter as well. I suggest a compromise, to be used at the next meeting. These arguments on the forums get nowhere; the meetings are when things get voted on and done, as per our constitution.
If we are holding a vote for games played at a LAN, only vote for things you WILL PLAY. This means if you think a game is pretty cool but you probably won’t get a chance to play it at the LAN, dont vote for it. This goes for both PC and Console games.
There is no best way to enforce this, so we just need to play on the honor system. I try to believe we are all adults here. People can generally identify straight console or PC gamers at a meeting. Nobody cares who started what. Just grow up, move on, and vote intelligently next time. We need to keep everything that was voted at the last meeting because it was official, and take measures to get more attendance at future meetings.

Good riddance. Don’t let the door hit your *edited* on the way out. I don’t agree with what the PC people are attempting to do OR what the console people did last time. Play the games that were voted on or don’t hold votes at all. This whole thing is a pile of bull*edited*. And AGAIN, THE PRESIDENT IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND!!!!

ParticipantHere’s a potential solution: What if we changed the way games are voted on? At general meetings, we’ll vote on PC tournies. If there is some sort of problem with the choices, the presidet will make an executive decision to change it. Later, the console people will hold a console meeting and vote for console tournies. Any problems will result in the console president making an executive decision. Later still, representatives from both sides of the club will get together and hammer out a schedule. Everybody’s happy.
Just getting the ball rolling. Any thoughts?

Good luck getting that through the constitution. That gives the president too much power. Any resolutions to problems should be voted on, at meetings. Do not give too much power to any one person.

ParticipantCan someone please point out the post where I say that we are changing games? I said I don’t agree with it but I don’t see us changing games because I think we should play the games that get voted in.
Also Dark Omen, I have been in the club for a long time. If you have a problem with me let’s discuss it in person. This discussion was about what the club is doing and you chose to make it personal.

We have TF2 where it is because that way it gets the most time… since we always run over. This way we get 2 1/2 hours for TF2. Notice that CSS only gets 1 1/2 hours and last LAN it got about 30 minutes because everything ran over. Also, let’s leave the schedule how it is because I’m glad I get to play Brawl for a change

TF2 doesn’t need 2.5 hours.
15 min – Warmup
30 min – First Map
30 min – Final Map
5 minutes to create teams.
5 minutes to talk to your team.
5 minutes to decide who moves on.
15 minutes set aside in case of stalemates. Tie breaker should be a quick, fast, solution – Not an entire map.
15 minutes set aside for ‘oh *edited*’ moments.
Total: 2 Hours
Nothing should cause the tournament to go outside this time table – assuming we only have 4 teams. If we ended up with 6 teams then we might need an extra map, at which point we could either remove the warmup or actually use 2.5 hours. However we won’t have 30 people playing TF2.
Now that I’m thinking about it. In case we do somehow end up needing 6 teams it would be a good idea to have an idea of how we would host the tournament. This isn’t a likely scenario but we want to be ready.
I’m only mentioning this because I think we are wasting 30 minutes of LAN time that could be used for something else.
I hate playing TF2 that early for my own personal reasons, primarily because I feel there is a chance that several people might miss the TF2 tournament, not realizing it is at 4pm.
Which brings me to my next idea. Flyers that have Tournament Schedules on them. Just an idea.
October 25, 2008 at 6:16 pm #60917Nickname
ParticipantThe problem with that schedule Kappa is you have to take into account time for people to get in the correct server; people leaving between rounds to get drinks, use the bathroom, etc. We advertise that the games start at 2:00pm and say on the flyer to check out the website for the schedule (which will be up soon) so I think we have the bases covered.

Everything that could possibly go wrong usually does. Even when you think you have it well planned. Seems like they were more smooth when they weren’t well planned.
October 25, 2008 at 6:34 pm #60919Kappamerc
ParticipantWith the current time allocation, assuming were doing something similar to what I’ve detailed, we have 45 minutes set aside for people to use the bathroom and connect to servers?
meh
:baaasmiley:
I concede. Although it would be nice if the event after this one has TF2 at a later time
.Also: I was a LAN admin for 2 years before I came to college for a company called MicroPC. I know that there needs to be time allowance. However it can be done within reason. For instance instead of saying 2.5 hours for TF2 we could say 2 hours (giving us 15 minutes of allowance built in) and then say 30 minutes overall allowance for whatever situation may arise – this would be 30 minutes that any game could use. I have found this to be very effective.

ParticipantI’m speechless, what is wrong with all of you, are you all so low in the bottom of the barrel that you are resulting to assuming, name calling, and just down right dirty attitudes.
Since it seems yet again my reputation is being called into question I will give you my reason.
I currently, yet again, do not have internet at my apartment and have not had the chance to be on campus to have connection, now that I am, I am here to post. Thus that is why I have been unavailable and not here to post, why if so many of you care so much this club saw fit not to call me and tell me about this? That is neither here nor there, I want a lot out of this club, I am opening doors for the to walk through I am NOT doing it by myself.
As for why I will not be at the LAN: Yes, I picked the dates for the LANs last semester, I am in a play that is required for my major to graduate, this requires time and rehearsal that I am required to be at, one of the days for the rehearsal that as of right now I must be at are on November 8th. I am doing all that I can to get out of it, but there is no guarantee that I will be able to, but I am trying.
I am hugely disappointed in the actions of pretty much everyone that posted in this thread.
Kuros: Get off it, everyone knows you hate me, everyone knows you don’t agree with how I do things, and you beating that dead horse is getting really old. All you do is sit back and *edited* about things, on the rare occasion you actually give good advice, in fact, when you actually do give advice it is really good. So instead of *edited*ing all the time why don’t you give advice? And don’t you dare bring my personal reputation into this again, this club does not need that kind of base mudslinging, not so much for me but for future presidents, I would not want you here anymore simply because of that. But maybe because I don’t have “balls” I hope against hope that you will stop with the idiotic mudslinging and actually try to do something for this club, like back when I could tell you cared.
This thread has way too much emotion in it, if I really did things the way Kuros said I do I would close this down and delete all the posts, but I don’t do that. Obviously your all pretty riled up at each other, so when your done fighting and gnashing your teeth at each other and you actually want to do something with this club, you let me know. I will continue doing what I have been and try to better this club, by getting its name known in the university, bringing new people in, finding ways to compromise and bring fun back to the LAN events, finding better ways to do things on the clubs business side, and trying to get better sponsors for this club.
If I am not “go-getter” enough for you, well I am *edited*ing sorry. My term ends in December, please if anyone else wants this and everyone believes in them that they will do something with this massacre, then please stand up and do it. I am so tired of logging on these forums and having to read through this garbage, you are all young adults and some of you are even already grown adults out in the real world, get off your *edited* high horse and realize that no one is going to do things your way. The best thing you can do is help them do it their way, and if that doesn’t work then they can do it your way, but their has to be some kind of compromise somewhere.
Like I said I want the best for this club, if that is in the form of my leaving then I will, I am so ready to resign and be done with this if that is all what you want. But unless that is made clear to me and someone else is ready to step up and take my place, then I will not stop because I love this club and that is why I put up with all this bull*edited* every *edited*ing day.
I’m spent, my hands are tired and I am done typing, if any of you feel you need to talk to me about this, call me, I refuse to sling any more mud on these forums, next time one of you personally insult me you will be getting a call from me, and if I don’t have your number I will leave you a PM. I hope you all understand where I am coming from, I am willing to work for the betterment of this club, but I will not sit through any more of this bull*edited*, so all of you suck it up, man up, and quit being *edited*ing pansies about this.

ParticipantI’ve only been a “member” of this club for a few short months and Bitey has done a good job from what I can tell, and allows for people to at least get there opinions out on these forums instead of deleting the stuff before it gets too out of hand. Even from the meetings I’ve been to he puts up with a lot of BS, and wouldn’t even consider walking in his shoes leading this rather dysfunctional community. It’s pretty obvious Kuros, that you are very bitter about something that is between you and Bitey. I personally lead an online gaming community with members from across the North America, and with many members from this university. I too have to put up with a lot of drama and argueing, and I honestly apologize for the *edited* I’ve started, as I did take it a bit too far, and made it a personal vendetta.
As a leader of my community I was personally attacked regarding my personally life as well, and then some jerk hacked my forum and AIM accounts, criminal charges pending, but at the same time a lot of those people I don’t have to see on a daily basis, or ever at all, so I can only imagine how Bitey feels having to see a lot of the people who start *edited* on here on a daily basis and still keep a civil respect towards everyone, about himself.
As for Kip and Nickname, I’m a competitive person, and LANs to me are about playing the best competitive games and beating the best at them. I played High School sports, and even won a State Championship in football and thus thrive on competition. I stated in a prior post about my experience competing world wide in Guild Wars, and that I enjoy PC games casually, however Console is where I go to compete now since I don’t play sports much anymore. I personally think that though the club is both PC and Console gamers, games for the two should be chosen seperately as both groups have more invested in them and play them more seriously. Yes my push for Gunbound was to make a point, but at the same time I had every intention of playing in a GB tourney as well as everyone I suggested vote on it, but from what I’ve seen the PC guys would rather play something else, the same goes for Wii Bowling. Its a fun game don’t get me wrong but where is played on a competitive level and on a public stage outside of our living rooms with friends. Console gamers would rather play CoD4, granted Brenton (not all the console guys) decided to only have 2 FPS’s but he also was the one to nominate it for the Miscellaneous.
Anyways, to those I may have *edited*ed off, get used to it as I do it quite often. But I am sorry for making it somewhat personal. As far as Kuros, get over the past, take from someone that has been through a lot of *edited* in his RL (won’t get into it here, but my friends here know plenty about it), move past it, give people a second chance, and simply let dead dogs lie.
