You won’t even get it sustained on downloads. It lasts maybe a minute then backs down to the normal speed.

Keep in mind your Time Warner has turbo-boost. You’ll get faster DLs but that’s not your real speed as it backs down after a prolonged use.

A recent power outage corrupted the hlstatsCE database and I have taken the stats offline until we can get it fixed.

I think you guys fail to realize they’ve already done this. They’re called Macs. They suck at gaming.

Well what screwed us up is that the servers weren’t touched or screwed with at all and yet some were magically different between the last LAN and this one. I could very easily pass the blame on this one but won’t for fear of sounding redundant.

The install issue is complex. Over half the computers that are brought don’t have enough power to install a large game like CoD4 while playing another game and the big problem with Left4Dead was that people didn’t want to have to play TF2 on a seperate account, thus losing their achievements, while installing it. The Left4Dead issue is very easily fixed, the CoD4 not so much.

being a pain to install is a huge issue for me atleast. its like the size of visual studio.

Takes as long too. I’m going to look for ways to fast deploy it but we may have to move to Steam-only games simply because we can copy the core files from a dvd or flash drive.

lol we had more for gunbound than for cod4 lol but yea I agree it was fun but you guys should play something you actually WANT to play instead of a bunch of people who don’t actually bring computers to play it on(me).

We had 7 play CoD4 (Chupa backed out to balance teams) and at least 3 more that wanted to play but we couldn’t get the game on their computer in time.

My understanding was Gunbound had 4…

Dark Omen I know it’s not fair but that’s how it’s always been. We can’t just arbitrarily set the games to be played, doing so would put us out of touch with our communities. If someone wants to attend the meeting they can do so either by phone or IRC, both give them voting rights for games.

Between the PC execs we have enough to run a small LAN from routers and switches we already own. If it happens again we can look into getting a cheap linksys 8 or 16 port switch but I wouldn’t be too worried about one mistake. Now that we know what the problem really was we can make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Just thought I’d post here and apologize for the internet issues you guys had. Networking gave us the wrong 10/100 switch and the one we got had the security policy for the university datacenter on it. Normally we have a switch with almost no security on it at all.

    This shouldn’t happen again.

That’s fine. The vast majority of photo sharing sites are absolutely terrible when it comes to maintaining quality of high-res pictures. Feel free to upload them elsewhere if you want but we want the best available quality for our own board and if we yank them from other places we won’t get that.

PC side has a number of improvements to make but none of them should be very hard. Game deployment is killing us right now and we should be able to fix that at the next LAN with game transfer dvds.

As it is now, I can’t create another PC game server without severely cutting the quality of our existing servers or having it lag everyone out during our peak time.

Keep server ideas coming though because we have a new box in our future and we’ll need to find new and creative ways to use it.

As soon as the last LAN server was turned off, the pubs were turned back on.
