ParticipantEveryone at work seems to like it. Haven’t heard how it compares to 3 and ODST, though.

ParticipantFYI anyone can check on the status of an event booking at any time. There’s a public listing on the university’s website. You can use that to go ahead and start finding lan dates for next semester.
The grand room is already booked on the 1st but you got the MP room so no harm done.
If the new PCVP needs server training I’d be happy to help. Unless Felix did anything drastic, everything should still be exactly like I left it.

Also, the ‘1 Active Report’ message at the top (for admins) can’t be viewed.

ParticipantCan someone tell thor and felix to check their PMs.

ParticipantI don’t think facebook even has the current list. I imagine if you want to know you’ll have to contact whoever the club president is now.

ParticipantThat’s why I stick to CoD4. Maxed out is maxed out. They don’t go back and add crap later.

ParticipantNo, but there’s even cooler stuff than that going on. They have a whole building set aside for computer and networking research.

ParticipantTLDR; just skimmed a bit
Attempting to argue with an OWS supporter is a lesson in futility. A wall typically has a higher IQ. It appears as though you got hooked into arguing by a troll supporter, let this be a lesson. You can’t win arguments against people who think Greece went belly up because of a lack of tax revenue and too many tax dodgers and not because they allowed their citizens to retire before 60 with full medical coverage and pensions higher than their working salaries.
Speaking of which, take a good look because we’ll be there soon. We’re currently 15.2 trillion in debt with a 1.3 trillion per year deficit and have 117.2 trillion in unfunded liabilities. It’s to the point where if you increased taxes to 100%, seized every penny from every bank, retirement, and corporate account in America, and seized every home and asset from every American and corporation we’d still come up 40 trillion short of our outstanding liabilities.
I guess social security and medicare are worth it. At least, they *edited* well better be <_>

ParticipantI’m not working on it directly but I’m on the admin team for the longest-running mechwarrior league and the advisory board of both leagues for the MWLL Crysis mod.
No one really knows how the new mech game will turn out. I’m not overly optimistic. If they cut support for traditional leagueplay, as they’ve hinted at, it’s going to end very badly.

ParticipantNewtard: Hey let’s upgrade from Cryengine2 to Cryengine3. It’s super easy. Let me on the dev team and I’ll do it for you guys.
Dev #1: For that to happen we’d need a second dev team to do it in conjunction with regular mod updates.
Newtard: No, it’s super easy. If I need some help I can recruit some coders I know. Dev#2 said the mod can’t grow until you upgrade.
Dev #2: Don’t put words in my mouth.
Newtard: All you have to do is import the Crysis textures into the Crysis2 SDK and rebuild the mod.
Dev #3: Except the SDK license doesn’t allow that.
Me: I’m pretty sure when the devs upgrade engines they want it done right. It sounds like you want to jackleg the work and that’s not how these guys operate.
Tard #1: I really think this Crysis mod should have double-tap support to prevent accidentally leaving vehicles.
Me: I don’t know of any games that have native support for that.
Tard #2: Crysis does.
Me: Really? I’m pretty sure if Crysis did we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
I really need to stop posting on that message board, everytime I do I feel my IQ slip a bit.

ParticipantSince you kept records can you please have the secretary post them.
I’m going to engage *edited* mode because it usually gets execs to do their jobs. Sorry in advance.
[*edited* mode]
It’s sad that the secretary was so gung-ho about following the constitution to the letter and then he completely ignores one of the two duties listed in his own job description. I guess it should have been apparent how much he cared when he allowed voting on a position that doesn’t even exist, and according to the constitution can’t exist, but you’d think that he’d at least log into the message board to post about the meetings. He’s the first secretary in the club’s history NOT to do that. In fact, he hasn’t been here in almost two months and as the secretary that’s completely unacceptable.

ParticipantIt’s a travesty that game wasn’t released on the Wii.
MasterP
ParticipantExcept that unlike Sony, the passwords that were stolen are salted which renders rainbow tables useless and ensures they can’t be cracked en mass. They’ve said they don’t believe the hackers got the salts either and if that’s the case the passwords will very likely never be cracked.
Also unlike Sony, Steamguard flat out prevents account theft so even if someone got your password they wouldn’t be able to log into your account.

The new portable handheld, the PS VIta, doesn’t look too different from the Wii U controller. Maybe that’s what he’s referring to?
This.
I have no idea what the Vita looks like but it’ll interact with the PS3 in much the same was the Wii U controller. That’s what I’m talking about.
MasterP
ParticipantNo one thought motion interactions was going to work and most wrote the Wii off as little more than a short-term fad. Now both of its competitors have copied the concept. Nintendo will know if the overly expensive screen controller is going to work well before the Wii U is released, all they have to do is see how well it works out for Sony.
Dumb move on Sony’s part. Copying a concept is generally acceptable but copying and then rushing to beat the originator of the concept to the market is just dumb. Nintendo will now have over six months to study any failures on Sony’s part and learn from their mistakes. They should have waited and learned from Nintendo’s mistakes, that’s why the Move is so much better than the Wiimote.

I’d probably suspect a $500-$600 system.
That’s the general consensus right now. Nintendo chose to use a CPU and GPU that isn’t bleeding edge so that will help with the price considerably.
MasterP
ParticipantI can’t see what I saw in the game. I mean you run around with an AK, AWP, or pumpshotty and aim for the head feet. If you’ve got any other weapon you need a fair amount of luck to get kills.

so what are the actual spec for the WiiU?
http://en.wikipedia…./Wii_U#Hardware
Worth noting is that the CPU family being used has 4 to 8 cores and executes 4 threads per core and is clocked at 2.4GHz to 4.25GHz. This is compared to the 360’s 3 core processor with 2 threads per core clocked at 3.2GHz. Also worth noting is that the 360’s CPU is limit to in-order execution while the Wii U’s CPU will support agressive out-of-order execution. Ignoring everything else, the performance difference in execution ordering alone will be staggering.
It’s also been noted that the Wii U has more RAM than both the 360 and PS3. On a console that doesn’t matter as much as PCs but it’s nice to see the next gen will be trending in that direction.

ParticipantIn terms of general computing it’s not true at all. Intel has designed their architecture so that even though they aren’t getting MHz faster they’re still getting a 10-20% overall performance increase every generation. It was looking to be true but Intel has developed a brand new type of transistor that makes it possible to shrink CPUs much smaller than they could have otherwise with traditional transititors. It’s actually incredibly cool watching how these guys deal with problems that occur when they try to shrink things to sizes they were never intended to go. When you get to the scale we’re at now nature itself tries to interfere, for example quantum tunneling, and it’s fun watching these guys develop new things to overcome it.
Now in terms of consoles, yeah there’s some truth to it. The problem is that they all use garbage IBM processors in consoles and IBM’s performance increases lately have been pretty stagnant when compared to Intel. They placed a lot of stock in the Cell processor and it just didn’t pan out like they thought it would. Now compared to the XBOX360, the Wii U’s CPU will be much faster but compared to the PS3 it will only be 15-20% faster. Actually, compared the 360 the Wii U could be up to twice as fast as they’re using the same server CPU that was used to power Watson. This is still significant in terms of games capability but it’s not enough to warrant building a whole new console to compete against, at least not for Sony. Considering that most high-end titles are actually playing at 720p on the PS3 and some lower weird scale on the 360 it’s likely that they’ll just be played at full 1080p on the Wii U since that would require no major change to the overall game. This sucks for Wii U owners as their games could be much better and will be held back by the previous generation but that’s been happening to the PS3 for a number of years now and is not a tactic that is going away anytime soon.

Mitch, Nintendo isnt even sure what they want to do anymore with the WiiU. It has garnered such negative responses from conventions such as E3 that they have pretty much gone back to the drawing board. I mean hell, I would to if I had a system with a controller that was going to cost its fan base over $100, thats insane.
Not according to recent press releases and interviews. Apparently they’re right on track with where they said they’d be with the final version scheduled to be shown at E3 2012 and a release a few months after that. Game developers interviewed in September noted that they were developing games that took advantage of the controller displayed at E3 2011.
Bloodedge said:
And do show or tell about these concepts you mention b/c I havent seen anything new about the WiiU in quite some time. Last I saw of it, there were wispers of a Smash game being made for it, thats it.At E3 2011 the new SSB game was confirmed. Also, Sony has recently announced that the Vita will interact with the PS3 in almost an identical manner as the Wii U controller. Sony has also cut spending on the PS4’s development so it’s likely that they’re planning for the PS3/Vita to directly compete with the Wii U.
So Sony has their competition gameplan set, the puzzling thing is that Microsoft does not. They haven’t made any moves and are no closer to releasing the next XBOX than they were before the announcement of the Wii U. I guess they’re waiting and hoping that the specs announced aren’t entirely truthful. If they are the 360 is going to be in serious trouble.
MasterP
ParticipantSo first they copied the wii and now they’re copying it’s games.
Now I won’t feel so bad about buying the next Nintendo console, the game concepts for it will apparently be 4 years ahead of Sony.
