A discussion on a proposed revision to Article VI of the constitution took place. The proposal was to allow the president to warn and then temporarily ban members from the club if they are being troublesome and disrespectful on the forums or in real life. 9:11 PM
Voting on the Halo: Reach “Contingency Plan”
After a brief discussion, it was realized that Halo: Reach comes out a mere four days before the LAN. As a contingency plan, a back-up game needed to be selected in case enough copies could not be secured. Halo 2 and 3 were nominated and voted upon.

Halo 2 – 13
Halo 3 – 8
The back-up game for Halo: Reach will be Halo 2.
9:12 PM

Nominations for Wii tournaments to be hosted at LAN 2010.2 were taken and then voted upon. All those in attendance were given a total of two votes. There was significant interest in multiple titles in the Smash Bros. and Mario Kart series. Tallgeese decided that each series would be counted as a single title for voting purposes. Nomination and Voting on PC Tournaments (Non-RTS)
Nominations were taken for PC tournaments to be hosted at LAN 2010.2. Due to the large amount of interest in RTS tournaments, but the large amount of time they require, Tallgeese decided that a single RTS would be hosted and would count as a separate category to be voted upon soon after. A vote of the non-RTS games then took place. Those in attendance were given three votes each.
The results:
Team Fortress 2 – 24
Left 4 Dead 2 – 23
Counter Strike Source – 13
Guilty Gear – 13
Unreal Tournament 2004 – 7

9:26 PM
Nomination and Voting of RTS PC Tournament
Nominations for the RTS PC tournament to be hosted at LAN 2010.2 were taken and then voted upon. All those in attendance were given a total of one vote. (Note: this occurred at the same time as the non-RTS voting.)
The results:
Starcraft 2 – 17
Command and Conquer General – 4
Warcraft 3 – 3

9:45 PM
Magic Tournament Announcement
Tallgeese announced that the club will host a Magic: The Gathering tournament in the near future (possibly at the next LAN). Liquid (Sean Dowey) voiced his disapproval at the idea of hosting a Magic tournament at the same time as a LAN event, predicting noise, lighting, and scheduling problems. Mad-Medic (Nathan Golder) asked if other card or tabletop game tournaments would be possible in the future if the Magic Tournament is successful. The exact nature of the Magic tournament will be decided at a later date.
9:47 PM
New and Potential Member Email Addresses
Tallgeese asked all new members and those who wish to become members to write their email addresses upon a sheet of paper, located at the front of the room, before leaving. He explained that having these email addresses is a good way to keep new members informed of Gaming Club news.

Participant*edited* that was fast lol. Just a note to all, expect a thread with the tournament rules for the console games by saturday, sunday at the latest. Obviously, we will not be able to decide on all of the rules by then but, expect at least 1 or 2 tournament rules to be done.

ParticipantFirst and foremost, congrats to all on a huge attendance at the first meeting. Keep this up and you’ll have one of the best years on record. It would be awesome if we had to move our meetings to the UC MP room just to fit everyone, at that point you guys would be unstoppable. For the new (and returning) officers, forum permissions will be updated Friday.
Second, have the constitutional revisions been written and merged yet? If not, would you mind me helping? (I feel like this version is my baby
)Make sure you guys advertise this LAN event on the ASU website. Those guys absolutely love Melee and in the past we’ve had some drive to campus just for that one game.
@ Kazka, if you need spare copies of Melee or VC Mario Kart 64 let me know.
I’m going to contact ITS in the next few days and try to get SC2 straightened out. There’s a couple things it could be but if it’s the one I’m thinking we’re probably screwed for 8-9 months

About Magic the Gathering, on the day of our December LAN there are no other reservations in the entire UC. If you think you can make this work, reserve the Cardinal Conference Room on the 2nd floor. You should have more than enough space and it’s far enough from everything else that noise won’t be an issue.

Guilty Gear over CS:S…….
Blame Daniel (Tallgeese) he was the tie-breaker!

Honestly though if we can bring in a lot of people wanting to play it at the LAN and Guilty Gear is a hassle to setup, etc then I predict we’ll see CS being played again. The interest in CS has just been lackluster at best, there just isn’t as many people who play it anymore.
Also Ephraim I hate you, I showed up late and you forgot to add me QQ
September 3, 2010 at 10:36 am #104855Freezer
Participantseeing that i dont have any real Obligations for the club this semmester go ahead and plan on me running a free play CSS tournament if we get atleast 10 or so people wanting to play. so if you come to the lans for CSS it will still be played. i might even front a small prize or something.

Since it’s an imported game, only like 2 people at most own it.
I’d be curious to see if the 13 that voted for CSS were new members, if so we should have definately tried to bend to their interests. Was that even taken into account for the tie breaker?
September 3, 2010 at 1:11 pm #104861Freezer
Participantsome of them were old members comming back. but otherwise i dont really know
September 3, 2010 at 1:33 pm #104862Lemm
ParticipantI still say we need to give people the information about previous lans game tournament attendence BEFORE THEY VOTE.
It’s not about what games you want to play as much as what will get people to come to the lan and promote the club.
September 3, 2010 at 2:36 pm #104867
Adam FaulknerParticipantthe largest consideration for games should be running the servers for the tourney’s if we dont have a CL for it and nobody to run the server for it on the PC side then you shouldn’t even be voting on it. I hope Domo has a plan for getting these servers up in such a short amount of time.

Agreed.
September 3, 2010 at 2:50 pm #104870Bitey
ParticipantI was going to say that as well, we shouldn’t vote in a game that nobody owns, and we don’t have a CL for. What is with playing old school games, I mean I like it, but for LAN events would it not be more beneficial to play new games? Obviously we are a bit hurt by this since that requires someone to own it. I suppose that is why we have always played old games in the past. With the Steam All-Day Pass that made life easier on the PC since we got access to all the games when someone used those Steam Accounts.
Anyways, best of luck to the new executives and welcome back to the old ones! I look forward to seeing what you guys do with the club!

ParticipantApparently Guilty Gear was ran and well-ran and popular at the last lan, it could be a tournament we could have on the side and something anyone can step in and play with or without bringing their PC. I don’t know the logistics of it about whether you play it on the same screen or if you play online, etc but if it is popular and well-ran, as well as getting people to attend future events, then its fine by me.
How many people did we have at the last lan for CSS? And the lan before that as well? If there is popularity for it then I would think that both could be supported.

No PC games were run at the last LAN.
Guilty Gear is a same screen fighter with PS3 controllers in Japanese. I seem to remember there being only 1 copy.
The one time we played CSS last year it was very successful. And by very, it was tied with TF2 for the most PC players if I remember correctly. Had like 15-20 I think.
Regardless, do you think it would be easier for a PC player to randomly pick up and actually enjoy guilty gear or counter strike? At least with counter strike, they get to play for 20 minutes before being eliminated and even if they’d never played it before they have a pretty good chance of making it to the 2nd or 3rd round :\

I would go this route, but most students simply wont come to the site ( a shame really). Thats why I am doing both methods. Once I get all the emails together I will email them about the coming LAN, and about the site

Participantthe general opinion of WCU is that every student is given an email account so that should be the official communication tool for the clubs. at least that is what Stephen Wilson and one of the SGA people said.

Adam FaulknerParticipantwell it looks like it will get worked out. You guys should be kicking down some sponsors doors by now. Let us know how the hunting is going.
