Dustin FaulknerMemberI apologize for being 20mins late to a meeting set at 8:30 on a normal class scheduled day. However, I did bring along alot of freshman.
So here is the problems (I really dont give a *edited* about the past)
– Appearently it wasn’t expressed to the FRESHMAN that they needed to sign attendance…this will hinder growth.
– Talking to my roommate ( a non hardcore gamer that just wanted to possible play grand trismo or something with some people) he said that the way the conversations went on and was brought seemed like it was a bunch of nerds trying to run a country. I know as a gamer that people love to express their skill and involvement in a game but when you scare casual people off, the club will go nowhere except bring hardcore gamers in….that totally dimnishes the idea of “we bring students to college with games”.
– I talked to a guy about little lan events every weekend. That is great, have fun, more power to you BUT as a organization you need to look at a big picture here. If you have a large lan with a ton of people set maybe once a month, than the rewards would be greater AND there will be more sponsorships. If you have these little lans and commit them as being a “wcugaming club” event instead of a little “personal get together” than a sponsor would look at these “small” lan events with not as many people and probably not give a very good sponsorship. (((this doesn’t mean you can’t have your small lan events, just logically it wouldn’t be a good idea to host it as a gaming club event)))
– Last I noticed people were being pushed into office due to clicks. I dont have a click, don’t give a flying *edited* about a click. A job is a job, just be good at it and dont be a douche and it all works out…right? I know people don’t like others and that seems to cause backstabbing, clicks, and whatever else, but seriously…This is a CLUB that is suppose to bring CASUAL and Hardcore gamers together. If you bring some casual gamers, you might get some hot chicks too. Get my drift?
Solution: ANNOUNCE about every 20mins for walkins to sign the sheet for attendance.(bet none of the freshman other than myself signed)
Be casual about the club, be hardcore at the lans.
Have your own get togethers, dont make it a club event unless you exspect over 50people…
Try not to be a douche and have ignorant little drama queen moments would solve the last one.
And….lets get more people and stop the singling out. Its a gaming community…
(small idea, rewrite to where anyone can be a member apon the first meeting however only members that meet the honorary requirements such as being to 2 meetings, lans, blah blah blah can actually vote for positions)
-added at 4:25, I just saw that some posts would be removed if it had arguing, thats a little one sided don’t you think? freedom to express without having to kiss somones *edited* (as I said earlier) would be nice

No, I know he’s not. Adam wouldn’t do that.
It’s just funny to me how you two have such similar leadership qualities and charisma.

ParticipantWell thought out and presented in a neutral manner with little hyperbole, why cant people do this in real life when discussing something serious?
I agree that the meetings should be more casual, connecting with people on a basic level is how we hook people who are in-between HateGames and OmgGames.
Everything else I generally agree with.

ParticipantTo the “geeks trying to run a country” argument:
Are you implying that our bureaucracy is scaring people off? We need some amount of bureaucracy to keep stuff organized.
To the “mini-LAN” argument:
A large LAN every month would be nice, but it’s seemingly difficult to arrange the space needed. Also, this would mean more meetings per semester and more work for the elected officers and others who are helping out. As for the mini-lans, if we said it was for a personal get-together, it would be more difficult to get Central’s MPR reserved as much as we do.
To the “cliques” argument:
Only one person (Felix) was even voted in. Everyone else (Kaz, Thor, JJ, Shanon, Ephraim) was approved by the general consensus. Judging by that, I’d say the two main cliques of this club have mostly came to peace with each other.

Just from the meeting I recongnized clicks so you can’t deny that ( i am not bashing anyone). The mini-lan argument, reread it because you missed the concept. If the people in office have a problem with working their *edited* off then why the *edited* are they in office, you know? The bureucracy wasnt what I was talking about, I am talking about the way people carried themselves during the meeting… Reread and think again, it wasnt an argument either…
I am not arguing, neither was I singling people out, and I dont know much about people so dont take my brother’s past and point it at me. I would rather not start off on a bad foot because someone doesnt like my brother. I have no *edited*ing idea who most of you guys are or the past relationships. I never have had a problem getting along with someone unless they were total *edited*s, and even then it humors me.

ParticipantYes, there are cliques, but you mentioning them working internally to push in individuals is an exaggeration, in regards to this meeting at least.
I understand your point on the minilan: about distracting potential sponsors. I just think that if the club as an entity no longer officially sanctions these events, it will become harder to keep the minilans going. A better solution to the issue would be to rename the minilans as to not mislead potential sponsors but still classify them as club events.
What specific instances of people being too serious in the meeting do you feel could have scared off casual gamers? Also, the meetings should be more laid back from here on out due to the recent compromises made in the club.

my internet cut out when i was editing my post so i came back a couple hours later, copy and pasted the edit I was originally going to have, and saw this. Cliques are fine for pushing someone in office to an extent, whatever, i dont care.Clicks, cliques, are usually part of a group that is on offence against others, is the problem. Sanction the minilans on a personal level would be more benefition to the club tho, its just one of those things that isnt a big deal but then again makes a big difference. Renaming may help, but never know till you try it or think it thouroughly.
I am off for the night, been a crazy weekend, I will be on tommorow night since I have a ladyfriend over.

If anyone there has been in the club long enough, ask them how meetings went while Kuros was president.
Back then the boring and monotonous voting meetings were fun and entertaining. You never really knew what was going to happen, who was going to run, or what games were going to be nominated until the meeting itself and no voting outcome was a given. Couple meetings like that with your already high outreach and I promise your retainment will skyrocket.
September 6, 2010 at 12:31 pm #104952Thor
ParticipantIt wasnt cliques pushing them into office, the executives that got elected into each of the offices have done it before, cept for felix which came to an actual vote between him and freezer. So it wasnt hey let me get my butt buddy as the *blank* it was hes done this position, he wants to do it, i nominate him.

@ everyone, sorry for not posting this weekend, been away from campus.
About the attendance, we did try about 2 or 3 separate times to get attendance. After those times, it should have fallen to the secretary to track the people down. I was currently trying to maintain order and didnt have time to hold everyone’s hand who walked in the door 45 minutes late.
I know this meeting may have sounded bland, and “nerdy”, but you should REALLY have seen how “nerdy” previous meetings sounded. About the constitution changes, those did make the meeting seem more complicated, but it HAD to be done, so if you can let all your friends know next meeting will NOT be like that, that would help us out alot.
About the member and honarary member thing, the ideas are the same as we have now with member and non member, simply your way is a changing of wording. Currently the wording works for SGA standards, and we need not make more trouble with them trying to create an “honorary” member status. If someone has a problem not being “a member” then they should honestly just tough out the member requirements. Thats the LAST thing this club needs right now is impatient or immature members.

Do you have any idea how easy it’d be to cut this comment to shreds after the actions at the last meeting?
I’m not saying what you did was wrong but when the subject comes back up again it’s pretty hypocritical to dismiss it outright.

What do you mean by “actions at the last meeting”? I was under the impression the meeting went pretty well. If it wasnt, please tell me what went ary.
As for me talking about immature members. I was simply saying that the whole idea is just a a notion of wording. The status of the individuals would remain the same, but they just dont have that word “member” attached to them. If someone gets upset over something like titles and status, well I think they have some maturing to do. That is what I originally meant by my statement.
@Dustin, thank you for your comments about the meeting. If I at all sounded attacking or condescending, I apologize. I wasnt at all trying to be critical of you (even though it may have sounded that way)

Dont get me wrong, I love being able to talk to anyone at anytime instantly over the internet, but I would ALWAYS prefer a face-to-face convo instead. I just like the personal interaction.

There was no misinterpretation.
I was dancing around the fact that what you said made you a hypocrit after you had just days earlier granted a bunch of poeple member status who, by all rights, weren’t members. You then turned around and said that anyone who wanted a fast-track to membership should just tough it up and if they had a problem with their current status they were immature. I warned you guys about the precedent you’d be setting by granting insta-membership and whether you like it or not now you have to man up and face it.
Also, I think you missed the point Liam was making
September 7, 2010 at 1:40 pm #104989Tallgeese
ParticipantNo, Mitch,, the whole point of granting “insta-memberships” as you call them, was to allow people who SHOULD be members membership status.
The way the new membership status happened at the end of last semester was a one time, IF you showed up to that meeting, you were a member. EVERYONE else was SOL. THAT wasnt fair to people who couldnt make it, or didnt make it. I was simply trying to right a wrong there, not give everyone a free ride man.

Sounds legit. I can see where times have changed, once *edited* hits the fan its hard to clean up. tallgeese whats the idea on the small lans? rename them mini comp events or something? and I am sitting here eating boyardee mini cups that you microwave and got an idea of a nice sponsorship lol. I spent 120$ of declining balance on snacks and drinks since I am never going to use it all up( i did that math). Anyways so I have an old school server that I got from a guy at a car show that happened to work with a school in waynesville. Would be nice to hold info for a server or host something like cs or some old *edited*.
@ adam , i got a computer for cars from the same guy that gave me ther server, its really nice if I could buy that touch screen from you and mount it in the certer console.
(BTW guys start asking around about stuff like that, so much free stuff out there and I just happened to meet a guy at a car show that has it sitting in storage)

I’m talking about the precedent you set. You may have had the most honorable intentions but 3 years from now a sketchy president may use this as an excuse to let a bunch of his friends in on the first meeting, either to skew voting or to stack votes to keep his position.
Hell even now, under the guise of “cleaning *edited* up”, any future president could make any meeting an “automatic membership” meeting. As there’s nothing in the constitution that pertains to what you did, there’s no limit on how far or corrupt the ruling can go. Since this time you narrowly tailored it to only a certain group, anyone else could do the same in the future.
You say the way membership was held last semester was wrong, maybe it was maybe it wasn’t, but saying that all qualified students can only regain membership by attending this past meeting, especially when it wasn’t heavily advertised, is also wrong. If you want to be fair about it, all qualified students should be able to become members for this entire semester, not just the first meeting.
Breaking rules to clean *edited* up is fine but you have to be careful because it can lead to bigger piles of crap later down the road. That’s all I’m trying to say.
