So, if you skip down to the fourth paragraph(3rd block of text under the first imbedded video), you will find that Gamespot, curiously unaware to any form of modding whatsoever, finds that CoD: Black Ops the incestuous bedfellows that are incubating it have invented “gungame.”

You start off with a pistol, then with each kill, you get a better gun. Guess what happens if you get knifed? You drop down a level.

Didn’t this start off in cs 1.6?

At least track down the people who came up with the idea first and give them some credit, Treyarch.

But then again, I guess the people who take you up the behind are apt to influence you in certain ways… Yes, I’m looking at you, Bobby Kotick.

I’m thinking CoD:BO is going to smell in all kinds of ways.

Since gungame is an uncopyrighted mod Treyarch can steal it all day long but that doesn’t mean it’ll be useful in the CoD series. Because it won’t.

It isn’t stealing, lol. Gungame isn’t a CS only thing and it is quite cool that developers are even thinking of putting it in a game as a standard feature, something modders don’t have to create for the game. CoD:BO will actually support modders, dedicated servers, etc. Treyarch actually is showing their attention and commitment to the community instead of IW’s complete ignorance and bull*edited*. I’m happy to see that Treyarch implemented this, especially instead of possibly adding it as a $15 map pack/dlc, and think that the CS kids need to get over themselves, gungame may have originated from CS but CS isn’t the only thing that can run it and have it. Cry more and be happy people are noticing the community.

What rock have you been under? Treyarch is doing more harm to the community than IW did.

Treyarch has dedicated servers but you are required to rent them from gameservers.com, a company that has a terrible reputation for reliability. You can’t host your own server and without direct control over your dedicated server how the hell are you supposed to mod it? Sure you can make little changes but nowhere near the level we’ve seen with Source-based games and CoD4.

Gameservers is also extremely “big brotherish” about servers rented from them. They keep extremely tight control over what mods even Source-based servers use so I doubt any “unapproved” mods or maps are likely. If you think they’re going to pass up DLC you’re crazy.

Gungame is a selling point, much like Nazi Zombies was for CoD5. If the game can’t sale on it’s own laurels it shouldn’t be put on the market. Stealing features from other games (CSS/Battlefield2/MW2) and branding them as something new and cool isn’t going to fool anybody and it’s not going to make consumers anymore willing to shell out $60 for a slightly updated version of your last game.

Fanboy less and Google more please.

I’m not a fanboy of MW or any of the CoD series of games, I don’t even own MW2 because I hated everything about it. The gameservers announcement was only made two days ago and I hadn’t read about the monopolization of the dedicated servers that Gameservers is going to have along with the restriction of modding. Treyarch has indeed confirmed though that the Developer Console as well as Modding Tools will be available in CoD:BO and that always leaves a ray of shining light amongst the community. The point of me pointing out that Treyarch is utilizing a mod as part of their main game is that they are doing more to listen to the community and implement things that people want rather than just ignoring the fans and releasing whatever they wanted. When the gungame feature was revealed CS fanboys were outraged that Activision “stole” the idea, and my point was that it was a mod and to get over it, it isn’t a “CS only” thing.

Again I ask, what point is a developer console or mod tools when the dedicated server will nit pick what you’re allowed to do on it?

Something I think you missed is that the mod tools aren’t even made yet and they don’t even have a team working on them. It’s an entirely post-release thing. They don’t even know when they’ll be released, citing difficulties in creating a set of tools due to the game’s engine. Also keep in mind that at one point it was said MW2 would have mod tools. We all know how that panned out.

Something worth noting is the very uncommonly quoted phrase in regards to “persistent experience”:

“We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and benefits that the console system provides. We’re working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they’re all on first-party servers.”

This is the exact same rhetoric we heard from IW before they pulled a fast one on PC gamers.

MW2 declared war on the hardcore pc fps gamer…

They decided that the majority of people who play games must be only playing for casual reasons, have no interest in modding, or making anything unique.. and since it’s they made so much money on it, there is no reason to justify a change…

This precedent will not bode well for ANY FUTURE GAME in the CoD series.

    Thanks IW.. you ruined CoD.

PS. I’ve always hated Treyarch… but I’ve now I’ve llost my faith in IW as well.

Actually they did give credit. Research research. They credited the person who made the CoD4 variation of the mod, and credited the community for screaming their asses off that they wanted gungame. The CoD4 variation of gungame was arguably the best version.
