Or even have casual get togethers, such as eating dinner at Dodson or the UC and discussing club business.

I’m pretty sure that was the reason it was designed.. work, not play. So it’s a very nice luxury item. But yes, multiple monitors would be the way to go if you were working. However, depending on my line of work, I’d have a smaller crappier machine for work, rather than play, in which I do. So yeah. I wouldn’t mind having one of those.

Blood is awesome, you pansies. Nothing like the taste of copper in your mouth.

Worst aftertaste though? Whatever the hell that “Christmas” seasonal Pepsi was. Gah. Horrid.

Maybe making it into simply a council rather than 1 individual leader. With the console community, players can play and usually do play any console they choose (by exclusivity of certain titles or better gameplay for certain systems). So usually any console gamer can address the needs of any game tournament. So rather than having 2 individual “dedicated” leaders, lump the two positions into a Console Council member. Again, I don’t have a definite number on this because I don’t want to leave empty positions because of lack of representation.

About the M.A. thing, sometimes making it a motion in the meeting will “encourage” the new M.A. to do so, as well as let the members become informed to help pitch in any way possible (such as promoting by word-of-mouth) and creating a stronger sense of community.

Yeah.. There is no PS3 representation. Just the 1 Josh brings. That’s still putting a workload on whoever is in charge of the 360 though, since there are more tournaments on that than the Wii. ( There are 4 360 tournaments to the Wii’s 2. ) Furthermore, there needs to be a change in the number of staff for consoles to accommodate for growth. If you want the community to grow, you need to increase resources (which includes manpower). Granted, we could use more consoles and TVs than we normally use (which is about 4 360’s 4 TVs, 2 Wiis, and 2 projectors) which causes major time conflict issues when running tournaments. I have also discussed adding a tournament or two with a couple people to help contribute to the growth of the community. So maybe an amendment is in hand. The console community is different from the PC one with different needs and different management techniques and different interests.

    So.. all in all.

Another Suggestion : Amendment to change staffing positions for console division?

And finally to contribute to overall growth

Suggestion: Promoting the club through media on campus (be it ads in the university theater, fliers, TV62 ads, etc.).

That’s assuming anybody wants to run the individual tournaments. Aside from Zapling, I haven’t seen anybody willing to do so. Furthermore, I haven’t seen anybody bring their equipment when they first arrive.. even though they will bring it “if needed”. Lack of commitment here. And honestly, I doubt it would be that chaotic and I don’t think everyone would be in charge of 1 single tournament during the LAN. If anything, they share the workload of locating people, keeping up with brackets, setting up future matches, and checking in on another tournament if its in progress.

It was rough on me last semester because I was doing this position, and the M.A.’s job as well. The only downside is that at LANs, as council leader, you’re in charge of overseeing a lot of tournament, which can run at the same time and overlap. Yeah.. I appoint some volunteers, but I always check in to make sure things are running smoothly. And generally, there are a lot of last minute sign-ins, so I have to adapt and update brackets constantly, even mid-tournament.

That’s business for you. So far, I don’t think it’s really hurt them all that much. I mean.. look at the PS3. Yeah.. I know the Wii is probably outselling the 360, but the Wii is an entirely different system with its focus and style and target market. Between the battle of MS and Sony, I think MS is winning. And hey, if they make more money releasing new 360’s then let them. It’s capitalism at work.

Responsibilities are as follows: Contacting potential and current sponsors, deciding what games will be played as well as what settings will be used, running said tournaments, handing out prizes.

Also, as I have tried to do, spread the word about console events, trying to hold smaller events to increase awareness. Anything that can/should be done to increase the size of the community as well as improve the quality of said community.

Well this sounds like the xbox I heard about awhile back. I’m pretty sure Toshiba is helping build the new machine. And honestly, I wouldn’t mind getting the new one, just for the built in HD-DVD drive (assuming they put it in, in which they should). It’d be nice, plus I’m not paying the $200 for the external one for my current 360.

Yeah. Honestly, the Theater/Film system is awesome in itself for it to re-render games, keep track of players name’s and emblems and all that it pretty awesome. Plus you can see exactly how bad you owned that kid from every angle possible.

Like I said, if you want to see them, you can stop by my room at some point. I have them saved. I couldn’t get the 1v1 for some odd reason.

“This action requires you to sign-in with your Windows Live ID. Additionally, your Windows Live ID needs to be linked to your Xbox Live Gamertag. Click here to sign in.”

Halo 3 has its own video feature, called Theater. It actually re-renders the game so you can look at it from any players perspective (3rd person, and 1st person of author of vid) as well as free roam camera. By going to Bungie.net and signing up/in with a Windows ID – with linked XBL gamertag, the next time you sign onto Halo 3, it will automatically download up to 8 files from the respective players file shares.

It’d be nice if it was in a .wmv or .avi format, but it’s not. If you want to watch them at some point Dice, just come by my room whenever we get back from break.

Maelstrom is my vote. We’d have 1 level 70 who also has a level 23. But I think he’d be willing to help out anyone. You never know, he may want to make a new character. I can’t remember if its alliance or horde though. I’ll have to look up his characters at some point.

Honestly, I do believe some bad behavior in children is based on overly violent video games (however, these children most likely have had some behavior issues anyways). God, the number of times I’ve been in a pre-game lobby of Gears of War with a bloodthirsty 8-year-old. Something’s wrong with that. However, I propose that it’s not the lack of enforcement of the ESRB standards. Nearly every store I’ve been to upholds that rule. The problem is that parents are ignorant and weak. It makes my heart warm when I see a Gamestop employee sit and explain what all is in that Grand Theft Auto game Timmy wants for Christmas to his naive mother, and then suggest other age appropriate games he might/should enjoy.

The government needs to stay out of the gaming industry, I agree. If there was only legislation that could regulate better parenting, well then, we’d all be better off. The government only exists for a system of rules with built in institutions of punishment as well as providing defense for personal properties and even a judicial system. Nothing more. They can’t babysit everybody and nor should they. They do a hell of a lot more than they should.

Some sort of survey should go out across homes asking

    1) If they know what kind of content is in “insert title here”

    2) If they own it, why did they buy it?

    3) And who is it for? Who plays it?

And I’d bet you’d find the homes where an overly violent child is. Especially one who plays said game over Live or on servers.

Granted, some children do age and mature faster than others. That’s why ultimately the parent gets to say what is appropriate for their child. Some can handle Halo and Gears at ages below 18 (but no younger than 13/14 I’d imagine). Meanwhile, I believe what games the parents buy should be limited by their morals and virtues, specifically in games of extreme realism (i.e. mainly GTA). Honestly, I refuse to play that game because of its story and content, just because I know my nephew looks up to me and I have to be careful what I play and expose him to, even if his parents don’t really care.

    ———

Bottom line/Shorter version for those who don’t care to read that much:

Government shouldn’t regulate anything. Parents need to step up and become educated while getting a backbone and spanking the kid who’s throwing a tantrum over wanting the newest GTA.

I was impressed at the console turnout this time. Especially for the NCAA at our 2nd attempt of that type. Good Halo turnout as well, plus good competition this go around. I suggest watching the games. If you don’t have Live and Halo 3, come stop by my room at some point (even next semester) and show you. Still need the finals though.

Oh and by the way, I am planning on making a video montage out of all the footage once I get a new video capture card. Which will probably be next month unless I get donations or someone is willing to lend me one (or comp).

As a student, I think the SGA is reflecting the administration’s view moreso than the students. So far Western has shown little care for the opinion and voice of the student and simply taken what money it can and spend it on whatever they deem necessary. Logic and reason has nothing to do with such decision making. Honestly, if we must, we take the gaming club and make it its own seperate entity and rely on its community to step up and be willing to donate for the cause and the sake of LAN events. The community has before when a server was needed. Why not now? Besides, this is not just a student only organization. If anything, we turn down a lot of potential students because they hear from us on what the school itself has not provided and that we ourselves had to provide for at our own expenses. I still want to be a part of this gaming club when I graduate and I’m willing to invest what I can into it. I don’t think it would be too much to ask for the community to invest what it can since no one within the University’s infrastructure is willing to.
