I think the older games are the best bet. We can barely pull a decent showing at the normal events and space is going to be so cramped here I can’t imagine towers would even be a *good* option.Stick with 1.6, Q3A, UT2k4. Can also try a decent RTS in freeplay if enough people want to.
we had no problems with people bringing towers to that room in the past.

ParticipantI believe the maintenance is done as I just logged in and the box is sitting at 0% CPU. HOWEVER I will let Liam put the servers back up because I want to make sure I don’t *edited* anything up.

Things I think the server would benefit from having…-Reversed guns i.e. Start with the awp/snipers and finish with pistols/nade/knife
-Keep the normal maps, but also throw in the standard gun game maps…
-When the bomb is planted or defused you level up, but the gun does not change, that is more of a fix than a suggestion…
-On the regular maps, have random spawn points
-Have instant respawn as well, a true turbo gun game…
-2 kills for level up with guns or 1 knife kill to level up…
I’m sure I will think of more…
But what does everyone else think about these things I suggested for the server??
I agree with all of the above.

Participantbut if you are good you can still get the kills to level up quickly again.

why do you post such long articles I HATE READING.the title probably was enough for the lol.

ParticipantLet’s open a campaign server in addition to a vs server. I would assume we have more than ample resources to do so. And put it on expert mode.

Participantthey really don’t have “great deals” compared to building it yourself and some of the parts they use (such as power supplies) are usually very low quality unless you pay to upgrade them; plus their support is terrible.

Participantdo NOT buy a computer from ibuycomputer or cyberpowerpc etc. It looks like that is where this is coming. If you don’t feel comfortable putting a PC together and dont know somebody else who will do it for you, buy a name brand computer.

Nickname to be so smart I swear sometimes you act retarded. Computers do a lot more than play video games…that doesnt mean thats people use them for other things. I asked what he wanted to use the computer for and the only response I got was “fast internets and to play games”. The fact of the matter is that for the price, the e8500 is the best bet for games. Now if he wants to spend more $, then by all means please go buy the Q9550+ but considering that runs $320 vs the $190 for the e8500, you can’t compare them.
Please go do some benchmarking and looking around and see what processor is faster in whatever programs you use most. tomsharware has some here: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/desktop…chmarks,31.html and in each of the game tests there, the e8500 beats the q6600 (the original CPU he was looking at). And actually the e8500 was faster in photoshop, itunes, acrobat, etc.
But hey what do I know, I act retarded.

When Vista spreads the load between the cores, is there really a difference between gaming and encoding?Yes. Left4dead =! photoshop

A friend of mine overclocked his E6600 (2.4GHz dual) to try to match my Q6600 (2.4GHz quad). Even at a 50% overclock (3.6Ghz) he got significantly lower processor scores in 3D Mark ’07 than my quad at stock frequencies.A: there is no 3dmark07, I assume you meant 3dmark06
B: synthetic benchmarks are rarely indicative of real-world performance
C: Whoever said quads suck, you sir are retarded. My point was that a a higher clocked dual core would be better for GAMING. Obviously if you want to do a lot of encoding, photoshop, etc, the quad core would be more beneficial.
Nickname
ParticipantIf it were me in your price bracket, I would get the higher clocked core 2 duo.
Nickname
ParticipantYou can’t base what you buy now off the future because by the time the dual cores are obsolete, today’s quads would likely also be obsolete.
Nickname
Participantuncomfortable how? I have the same mouse and I really like it. Took me a couple days to get used to it though. What was your old mouse?

i want the i7 =( that motherboard it needs looks *edited*in wicked hahanickname getting a quad core that will be better than the dual cores would really blow my budget?
well that is up to you.
also idk if they will have the combo deals or not.
also IMHO quad core is really overrated and there is nothing wrong with getting a good dual core processor for gaming.
Nickname
Participantwell they have the same video card, the same amount of ram, and the motherboard, psu, case wont really affect performance much, and the cpu on mine is a higher clocked dual-core vs the lower clocked quad-core, meaning it depends on the app but mine will be faster 90% of the times in games. And yes it will run those games pretty darn well.

ParticipantI dont think I count “fair” as “approval”

Could even upgrade the cpu to a decent quadcore if you wanted to really make it future proofthat would really blow his budget and TBH its not really necessary. Unless he is going to upgrade the whole platform and get an i7.

ParticipantI am emailing the appropriate people and will let you know when I get a concrete answer. I am thinking if we get the lab from 6pm-12am maybe we could do 2 tourneys? maybe Q3A and COD:UO or something like that (alternatives: UT, RtCW:ET, maybe battlefield). I would really like to do DOD but I don’t have the old skool files from before steam was around. If anybody can get those to me that would be great. Same for CS.
