ParticipantEvery game you listed will be released on the PC as soon as 360 sales for it drop.
All MS hopes to do with the Xbox at this point is put their competition out of business which, fortunately for the rest of us, isn’t happening. Right now the 360 is full of fail. If not for the Halo series it’d have pulled a Dreamcast years ago.

ParticipantWas there a point to that post?

ParticipantIt’s important to point out that while the chipset will now detect and run all 4GB of ram, Vista 32-bit will not. There are rumored boot commands that fix this but no one will let me try them on their 4GB Vista machines.

ParticipantThe problem is that there SHOULD be limitations and censorship in gaming. The original hardcore games that I remember that were advertised as being brutal had parental locks in them. Hell Duke Nukem 3D had parental controls in it. The problem is that developers have quit caring, it no longer matters the age of the buyer so long as the game is being bought.
Some places have carding proceedures in place but they are rarely used. When I bought Doom3 at EB Games I got carded, the 12 year old in front of me bought GTA3 and didn’t get carded. Which game is worse? Did it matter?
Until the government puts a process in place to require carding for games, like the process in place for drugs, the over-zealous political organizations are going to keep pushing for censorship. Instead of blindly bashing politicians for their actions, shouldn’t we be redirecting them in a manner that will really benefit all?
Besides, it is financially impossible for the government to place broadsweeping restrictions on ALL video games. There are simply too many international companies based in the US that depend on this not happening. I wouldn’t worry about any of these bills until they get enough steam to pass either the House or Senate. At that point it will be announced on the news and a *edited*ed off public majority will keep it from passing.

Joox.net is back up from the technical issues….I agree that alluc.org is a good website but I don’t like the fact about they get links from all over the place from foreign websites and such it gets kinda annoying and you never really know how the quality is going to be….granted you can’t really complain when its free and only a click away…
That’s exactly how TV-links worked…
MasterP
ParticipantI kinda liked the part where they didn’t say what the government was doing to stop video games.

ParticipantThe Intel Q6600 is a fine processor and worth the the increase in price over the Core2 Duo.
As for motherboards, Asus and XFX make good boards. If you don’t mind sacrificing SLI support you can get an Intel board.

Honestly if you check out the Demo here it looks pretty sweet. The controls look smooth and easy. Not to mention that the graphics look amazing and the fact that its very similar to the origional halo. Not the graphics but the vechicles and such.
Personally I really cant wait for the game to come out next year. Sometime in November I think is the projected launch date.Graphics alone don’t make a good game.

Also, in response to MasterP’s charge that they do “next to nothing,” the Greek-affiliated students at WCU are some of the most committed and involved students at WCU, supporting philanthropies, charities, service projects, and other university activities such as Relay For Life, Up ‘Til Dawn, Valley Ballyhoo, Catamount athletics–the list goes on and on. On top of this, their members and alumni are among the greatest financial contributors, not only to their own organizations but to many other clubs and university services as well. I hope you don’t mind me asking, MasterP (and Mr. Panetta, the Northeastern student making utterly incorrect and unfounded claims against WCU’s SGA), but what have you as members of the Gaming Club done to promote your organization’s financial sustainability? That’s all well and good but the greek organizations are not financially responsible for the success or failure of any of the events you specifically mentioned. Most of the events mentioned are university sponsored events and are not even dependent upon the participation of the greeks. They’re going to have Relay For Life whether WCU is here or not. Up ‘Til Dawn is nothing more than a campus paid-for party, Valley Ballyhoo has nearly every group on campus participate, and even mentioning the athletics tells me you are grasping. If you’re implying the gaming club doesn’t have athletes I’d love to differ and if you’re implying the greeks give donations to the athletic general fund I’d love to see proof.
Also, since the greeks do so much for WCU, please list a few events that greeks planned and paid for entirely by themselves. If you’re going to compare the gaming club LAN events to university sponsored events the greeks participate in you’re comparing apples to oranges, lets stay with the same fruit.
The alumni comments have already been covered to I won’t re-address them but needless to say our alumni, the few there are, give just as much, if not more, of their time and effort to our organization.
If you’d like the gaming club to become completely financially independent then what’s the point of even being apart of SGA at all. All you’ve done in this forum is further strengthen our charges and accusations that the SGA isn’t willing to support the gaming club. We could charge membership fees but that’s not how gaming clubs work. We could have LANs without prizes but no one would go to them, that’s not how LAN events work. Please do some research before telling us that we need to deviate from how NORMAL gaming organizations work.
As for what I give to the organization, I am one of the most active members in the club. I showed up hours before the start of the previous few LAN events to help get everything running. When Shane Baker was in an exam last Saturday he put me in charge of making sure everything was set up when he got out, and it was to the extent possible. I won’t even go into detail about how the UC didn’t give us the number of tables and chairs we needed and how facilities management gave us a powerbox rated for 1/3 of what we asked for.
Don’t even start to question my contributions to the organization. If I charged for my electrical, networking, and management time it would easily have been $300-400 this year alone. If you want to see how active I am in games take a look at my forum signature and take note of all the online clans/organizations I’m a member of. As far as gaming goes, my time is a fairly valuable commodity and the WCU Gaming Club has earned first priority for it. Their community is amoung one of the finest on the internet and I’m proud to call myself a member, even if the SGA won’t support it.
Hell I’ll even tie my name to this…

ParticipantPay attention as you walk down the UC stairs. It’s plain as day.

ParticipantI imagine it would be more along the lines of N64 Battlezone. It was a great port but just didn’t flow like the PC version and certainly didn’t shape up to anything near a good N64 game.
MasterP
ParticipantIf they can fund the greeks, most of whom do next to nothing, they can fund us. At least we do something for the campus community. There are a number of student groups who do nothing but suck up free money, they do nothing to give back to the campus.

ParticipantBoth brands aren’t terribly good but from a stats-only perspective the Nvidia card smokes the ATI. Core is about 20% faster and the memory is close to twice as fast.

Hmmm… that coming from someone that has had one big old crappy laptop vs me who has had 6 in the last 2 years.Yeah, obviously I know nothing and masterp is the genius. but all the advise he gives is to buy a desktop. how helpful.
What he doesn’t point out is that at least half of those were free. Oh and my “one big old crappy laptop” was the best available when it was bought.
My advice isn’t to just buy a desktop; it’s to buy a laptop meant for long battery life (4-7 hours) and save the rest for a good desktop. Nickname you can’t tell me a laptop lasts as long as a desktop in the gaming world.

Kip, he’s not looking to get some highend gameing laptop; that dell gets 2:30 with the standard battery and about 4 hours with the extended battery. It’s also not as big and bulky as the laptop you have. Desktop’s have the same terrible resell value as laptops as well so stfu about stuff when you don’t know what you’re talking about.Go look at the stats he posted in the initial thread and then relook at what you posted.
MasterP
ParticipantTeam stacking FTW!
MasterP
ParticipantDo NOT get a desktop replacement, you’ll hate it and it’ll never have the resell value of a desktop. Not to mention the battery life is MAYBE an hour. Oh and did I mention heavy and hot? If you want a laptop, spend $600-700 and get yourself a decent one with a long battery life, leave the gaming to the desktop.

But thanksfully it’s being made for console, instead of a PC ported to console. That will help more than anything else. RTS games ported from PC to console ALWAYS flop. If they do a good job with the interface and mixing command/control/FPS aspects then I have no doubt the game will at least draw a moderate playerbase. The Halo theme will do more to attract players than anything else they could advertise on.

ParticipantDeathmatch = respawn
The 1.6 surf is nowhere near as good as the source.
Same as with everything else:
Source > 1.6
MasterP
ParticipantHate to break it to you but the last console based RTS like this that I can remember flopped. Hard. Most console gamers just want to point and shoot, not worry with commanding an army.

surf server with deathmatch… that would be full all the timeTAG has had surf since it was created (same with zombie) and has had great success with it. We also have a 2nd surf that is purely for surfing. We would want the deathmatch surf with maybe RPG mod.

ParticipantMacs are for retards that can’t figure out a PC. If you know how to use command prompt then you’ll have nothing but disappointments with a Mac.
Not to mention their specs are terrible for what you pay.

that would be kick *edited*I’ll hit Kuros up for it. GOOD surf servers are typically full all the time.
MasterP
ParticipantThat was the 3D Mark06 Graphics test run at the default settings. You can crank the settings up but it won’t make a difference. The decrease in CPU performance will be proportional to the difference already established.

4 cores are not better for gaming…it will be for the newer games, but not ones like source or even TF2Check these out:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.htm…1&chart=418
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_2007.htm…1&chart=422
2000 points higher of 3d Mark ’06. 20 FPS higher on UT2k4. The processor balances the processing load across all 4 cores, whether the game requests it or not. This makes a tremendous difference because some of the newer games will hold themselves back if the think they are maxing out the processor or memory but this way they never get close to it.
GTFO and STFU.
