ParticipantThink im going with the HP DV9500 series
Debating between AMD(DV9500z) or a Intell(DV9500t)
Seems like theirs not much between the difference models and when they have the same specs, on average the amd seems to be about $200 cheaper? Why?

ParticipantI AM OUT OF CONTROL, BUT I’LL BE IN CONTROL OF ALL OF YOUR BASES, THEY’LL BELONG TO ME IN 8 HOURS AND 12 MINUTES!!!
ps, i’ve had problems with hp years ago, but recently(2-3 yrs) they’ve made a very strong comeback, an excellent product, which was marred years ago and labeled as sub-standard, also amazing customer support. I think your making a good choice. And go with amd, i have machines that run both, doens’t matter, 50/50 depending on which way you wipe your *edited*…

ParticipantIntels typically get better battery life.
The only reason I would promote dell is if you get their non-basic warranty (i.e. next business day), then their customer support is pretty amazing. Honestly though Dells and HPs have both improved greatly in terms of quality and either is a sound product nowadays. Just make sure you get the one with the specs you want for the price you want.

Participantabout the processor is their any performance differenace between an intell 2.2GHz and an AMD 2.2
i was under the impression that AMD was typicaly better, but the Intell chip seem to bench mark a good bit more… just seeing if anyone knew more on the two:
AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-64 (2.2 GHz, 512KB+512KB L2 Cache )
or
Intel® Core 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
Also the display cant figure out why ones better than the other or how to pick one thats right for me. I’m not a fan of the ultra high glossy “sharp” i know i’m sexy but i just dont wont to see myself all the time… any battery performance issues or noticeable total system performance going to be affected with these three display options: most likely i wont be getting the HD dvd player on it and if i do i’ll prob use the HDMI port to export it onto a TV.
WXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)
WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050) about $50 more
WXGA+ High-Definition Ultra HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900) about $125 more
Thanks greatly for your tricktips, and time,, both these questions are found noware in the reviews i’v found.

Intel is stomping the *edited* out of AMD right now. That Dual-Core chip is also 64 bit as well. As for the “sharp and glossy” you don’t see yourself in it. I have one and I love it.
December 19, 2007 at 11:45 am #32628Nickname
ParticipantIntels are faster but besides benchmarks its arguable whether or not you would “see” the performance improvements.
As far as the screens go, the resolution of the screen doesn’t impact whether or not its glossy and I think all of the dv9500’s screens are glossy. I don’t know what videocard you are getting but there isn’t a mobile videocard out there that can play the latest games at 1920×1200 so I suggest getting one of the lower 2 resolutions. I honestly think the 1680×1050 would be the best between having lots of room on the desktop and performance but if you are wanting to play games you are gonna want the lower resolution screen.

Participantquestion:
Doesent apply to the laptop,, but whats the differeance between Intells core duo and core 2 duo?
and with the 2 Duo T7500 chip(2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) running the cheap basic Vista Home Premium (32-bit), does/can it read all 4 gigs of ram? {Should i opt for 2 or 3GB} or is it useless untill you go to 64bit. (does the school provide vista business/ultiment cheaply like it does XP) and any reason to have it dule boot to both XP pro and Vista.. Havent really desided which i wont to use. …sigh but the dv9700 series lappy does have 2 HD’s
And battery choices
8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery +Included
High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery +40
Extra 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery +$129.00
Extra High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries +$149.00
They dont give any stats of what the differeances are.. am i better off just getting the included cheapo and buy a aftermarket battery when the time comes

Also, the school doesn’t have vista (yet). Don’t dual boot unless you find that you NEED XP or something.

Don’t buy an aftermarket battery, they are almost always inferior to the originals. I would suggest the high capacity battery.
December 23, 2007 at 6:26 pm #32783MasterP
ParticipantIt’s important to point out that while the chipset will now detect and run all 4GB of ram, Vista 32-bit will not. There are rumored boot commands that fix this but no one will let me try them on their 4GB Vista machines.

Participantas i dont plan on ever running a 64bit OS,, 4gigs is it a wast of money for me to get 4gigs,, and i should stick to 3gigs and spend the extra $200 on some custom VAC2 secure hax ??
December 24, 2007 at 12:46 am #32824Nickname
ParticipantDon’t say you will NEVER run a 64bit OS because more than likely the next version of windows will only be 64bit. 4gb isnt really a waste of money if you buy aftermarket ram you can get 4gb for ~$100 or less (I can link if needed) but I agree with the VAC2 secure hax those could come in handy
December 24, 2007 at 2:23 am #32838Phonetically Phamous (dice
ParticipantIts 2 Dimm lappy,, 2gigs are included 2XGB
3GB = 1.5GBX2 +$100
4GB – 2GB X 2 + $300
Sounds like it’ll be hella cheaper to get aftermarket ram on top of i can sell the stock extra 2GB sticks o_0
Note: dice doesent plan on running 64bit for awile (2-3years) then he will have big money and can then buy out Steam VAC and all its leetness

I was looking around, looks like 667MHz is the fasted supported.. i need to give them a call again. The best price i could dig up was some $120ish 2gig sticks (each) So Mitch, are you saying dont get the 4gigs? i might just get the default 2gigs sticks and upgrade later, but still trying to fing a good cheap site.
PS: check it out the hax come with the PC
January 1, 2008 at 11:17 pm #33316MasterP
ParticipantGet the absolute minimum you can and upgrade when you get it. If you order 2GB of ram they’ll send you two 1GB sticks which makes it worthless when you want to go with more. Most laptop makes will let you specify 1x2GB but you get POS sticks and mix-n-matching good with POS is never smart. Get 512MB or 1GB and upgrade to a pair of 2GB sticks. Get some with good timings (4-4-4-12 or lower) and pop them in when you first boot it up.
You’re going to upgrade to 64-bit eventually so might as well get 4GB now while you’re in the spending mood.

Participantmin they allow is 2x1GB sticks so planed on tossing them on fleabay to make a pennie back.. whats a good site for buying ram.. newegg?
January 3, 2008 at 6:36 pm #33502MasterP
ParticipantNewegg is probably the safest. You can try Tiger/Global but their specs on the sticks are usually wrong.
