I made a fairly persuasive arguement about why public ratings don’t really reflect game contect in a MW forum a couple months back. I’ll link it up if I can find it.
Pretty much the way games are being rated now is a sham compared to how they used to be. Point in case is Bioshock. Sure it’s a great game but what did it bring to the FPS realm? Nothing and it yet it received more perfect ratings than I care to count. It’s only great feature was the graphics, which are meaningless when it comes to replayability which oddly enough was almost completely ignored in most reviews of it.
The problem with reviews (that I’ve noticed) is that they seem to spend less than an hour playing a game or using a piece of software and then write a long, drawn out explaination of whether or not they were happy with their first glance. Even CNET is guilty of this, their review of Microsoft Onecare used screenshots taken during the first release of the beta test and many of their complaints were on bugs that were fixed midway through the beta. This review is still up and oddly enough just to the right of it is an Apple ad. Imagine that.
Does this mean you should completely ignore the ratings? I do, but most don’t.

Uhm, you do know that you can download that for free. Right? Most college campuses have enough bandwidth to make CS/CSS/HL2/TF2 an overnight deal. Hell last time I downloaded them on campus I was getting 1-2MB/sec.
It’s probably not a bad idea to split the consoles up but there needs to be a single person in charge to make sure everything runs smoothly. If each seperate console runs itself independent of everything else I imagine things will get chaotic, if nothing else than simply from a scheduling standpoint. Maybe keep the console CL but allow him to appoint individuals to run the individual tournaments.

If yall had a hard major you’d be sitting in class everyday whether the professor required it or not. Most hard classes have attendance policies.

~100 fps in CS isn’t really that great. That’s about the most you’ll get from integrated but keep in mind most integrated chipsets won’t play CSS and if it does you won’t be anywhere near happy with the experience. If you’re going to spend the money, at least get something that’ll last a few years.

Also, having been a senior member of another community-style CSS clan for several years I can tell you that banning people like Urban only yields a positive outcome in terms of player numbers and quality. Sure we may have a few less NOW but you have to consider how many players he’s run off and how many he could potentially run off in the future. Removing his admin helps some to some extent but if he can’t learn from that and remains belligerent, which appears to be the case, then he needs to be removed.
I’m all for the whole forgive/forget thing but after a while it gets old.

Execs don’t have to be in the server to ban you or declare that you need to be banned. To my knowledge it was Kuros’ call to boot you but the CS/CSS council leader for that game would have an equal say in whether or not you remain that way. As much crap as you’ve stirred up lately, you’re probably out of “get out of jail free” cards.
Btw and for future reference, when you’re drunk/high, stay off the internet. If you wake up the next day banned, demanding anything is probably not a good idea. Illegal narcotics don’t make your actions any more tolerable or forgiveable.
On that note, it’s probably important to point out that when prospective students apply for WCU they are asked about certain factors about the school that helped them decide. The Gaming Club is not on that list and there is no fill-in-the-blank selection where they could put the Gaming Club. This is probably something admissions should change, considering that we ARE pulling students in.
If it’s a solid 60 then leave the Vsync on. If your card is running Vsync at full speed you might try increasing the resolution or cranking AA/AS up, you’ve got the power for it.
Having 300 FPS does you no good when your eye can only detect around 30.
The best way to shift from night shift to normal daytime hours is to stay up around the clock one night and then stay up all the next day like normal. You’ll be tired as hell but you’ll be able to go to sleep around 9-10pm and wake up at a normal time. After that you should be good to go.
This also works when switching to Euro and Asian times.
Didn’t the original specifications state the XBOX360 would be released with an HDDVD drive? Did the desire to release a year ahead of everyone else overshadow the desire to release a complete product?
Newegg is probably the safest. You can try Tiger/Global but their specs on the sticks are usually wrong.
Anyone getting tired of spending all this money on newer versions of the same thing? The least they could do is include a substantial update, all this seems to do is make HDDVDs play at full capacity. Looks like they’re taking the XBOX and throwing in a DVR.
Any confirmed enhancements from MS or is this guess all you’ve got?
Get the absolute minimum you can and upgrade when you get it. If you order 2GB of ram they’ll send you two 1GB sticks which makes it worthless when you want to go with more. Most laptop makes will let you specify 1x2GB but you get POS sticks and mix-n-matching good with POS is never smart. Get 512MB or 1GB and upgrade to a pair of 2GB sticks. Get some with good timings (4-4-4-12 or lower) and pop them in when you first boot it up.
You’re going to upgrade to 64-bit eventually so might as well get 4GB now while you’re in the spending mood.
