Just for the sake of clarification: is there a PS3 game in there somewhere?I was hoping that their was but their isn’t. Its pretty much the same console games as last year except for Mario Kart Wii, which to me is a shame but oh well I suppose. Gotta go by what received the most votes. Honestly, I want a PS3 as an official game at the LAN but it seems as if people are to afraid to push for it.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure it was a major goal to get a PS3 tournie at the next LAN. I can provide a PS3 if it’s a problem. Why don’t we go with the PS3 version of CoD4?
September 5, 2008 at 11:24 am #55457Cacophony
ParticipantI think it’d be nice not to say “Woo! PS3 tourney! Good thing it’s a game we’ve played the last couple of LANs.”
If we are going PS3, let’s at least try to bring in the LAN we’ve not had before. Soul Calibur 4 was actually probably the best suggestion. We’ve not really ever had a fighting game (Brawl/Melee doesnt count) and we’ve not had a PS3. Or we could go with something like Resistance. I was surprised at just how fun and easy to pick up that game it.
Besides, the console CoD4 blows.

ParticipantFrom what I’ve heard from different people that online support for the PS3 isn’t that great yet so it’s easier to do it with the xbox. Also, I really don’t see the point in doing CoD4 for the PS3 just for the sake of having a PS3 being used for a tourney it would just take up more space and/or cause a lot of switching out consoles and TV’s just to have the tourney run on PS3. This wouldn’t have been an issue for a game like SC4 because we’d only need two PS3’s and two extra TV’s. If we were to do it for CoD4 we’d need at least 6 PS3’s and then 6 extra TV’s or unhook all the xbox’s hook up all the PS3’s and then do it vice versa once the tourney was complete.
My suggestion for this LAN is to get 2 or 3 PS3’s setup and have multiple free play games to get more people interested in it. The best game I’m seeing right now for it is Soul Caliber 4. Also are there any good racing games for the PS3? Or does anyone have Virtua Fighter 5. If anyone has these or something else they’d like to see at a LAN I suggest they bring them.
Also last time on the PS3 for free play I saw they same like 5-6 people playing the PS3 constantly, this isn’t what a LAN is for as it does not let multiple people enjoy the consoles. I don’t want that this time so if you are gonna bring any kind of console for free play I suggest you be prepared to let everyone use it and not just a select few. If you don’t think that you can handle it then don’t bother bringing the console because I won’t spare a TV for those who think that everyone wants to sit there and watch just you play.

ParticipantIll definitley bring mine if it stops acting like it hates me and actually reads the disks I put in it.
September 5, 2008 at 12:08 pm #55465Bitey
ParticipantIf you wanted you could opt to play SC4 on the PS3 instead of GoW or CoD4 since those two tied in votes, as I have said before though if people want to play PS3 then you have to show up and vote for the games and you can’t just bring 4 because you will be competing with Xbox players and that is just the way of the market.

ParticipantAgreed. If we had the staff and commitment, we could run more tournaments but then there would be complaints about missing out on certain tournaments and etc. No matter what we do, we have to make sacrifices somewhere. We won’t please everybody. I think the PS3 should help push in whatever small events we do outside the major LANs. Gain support that way and get the guys that come to visit the forums and go to the meetings, then we can surely get a PS3 game in the big LANs.
On a side note, I do believe that the club tendency is to stick what always works. However, sometimes what worked before doesn’t work for a large, dynamic crowd, which we are indeed becoming. We need to take some action to help boost PC awareness on campus as well as experiment with new ideas regarding the LANs (location, format, etc.) and establishing more of a presence out on campus and on-line.
To Bitey and DeviantSyntax: I know at least Shingi and I would talk to you two and any other exec’s that would be interested regarding some ideas and concerns we have. I don’t know if Shingi has shared them with Kaz-Ka. I think the best method would be IRC, so let me know whenever you guys get your internets up and running again and we’ll figure out a time.

ParticipantActually Audyo I did talk to him wednesday about some idea that he had in mind, I dont know if he forgot to tell me something or if he just didnt want to mention anything but nevertheless I do want to hear what you or him have to say if any of you two have any ideas, I don’t want to just hear ideas regarding the PS3. And another thing, what is an IRC?

ParticipantIRC – Internet Relay Chat. There’s a link on the main page that’ll help you access the club’s IRC channel. Also, look up the How-To thread on X-Chat here. It’s a program designed specifically for joining IRC servers instead of having to use java applets in web browsers. Confused? Well… just click on the IRC link at the top of the main page and forget everything about X-Chat.

ParticipantAll I’m saying is that we are going to have a PS3 tournie eventually, and there’s no time like the present. It’s not a super-big deal, but I think we should talk about it at the next meeting.
As for CoD4: I was just brainstorming. SC4 is probably a better choice.

ParticipantTBH to toss CoD4 to the side for the sake of adding SC4 because CoD4 tied with something is rather unfair for the guys who wanted to see it played in a tournament fashion. I have a number of friends who I have brought into the gaming club, and brought to the meetings as they were interested in playing CoD4 and seeing it get the recognition it deserves. My brother is also coming up from Charlotte that weekend to play in the CoD4 tourney. I just feel it would be extremely unfair to those who voted on and really want to play CoD4, especially since it got more votes, to be tossed to the wayside just for the sake of having a PS3 game. I’m with a number of people on this in that if the PS3 guys want it then they need to show up and be a member of the community outside of showing up for the LANs.

Last I checked CoD4 was one of the most popular console games played online and to toss it out over a simple numbers game is stupid IMO.

When I said, “SC4 is probably a better choice,” I meant that SC4 would be a better representative of the PS3 than CoD4. I was suggesting there is enough room for both games at the LAN.
I’m not trying to start trouble; just want to know what people think.
September 5, 2008 at 4:40 pm #55543FTE Kaz-Ka
ParticipantLook everyone, Im not trying to start anything over this, its just something that I wanted to try get to happen, thats all. I’m not trying to make a big deal out of the fact that we couldn’t get a PS3 game into the LAN, I understand that and its ok. Im just going to do what Ive been doing and try to promote it on Saturdays.
September 5, 2008 at 5:06 pm #55547Oh Malley
ParticipantI agree with Shingi’s point earlier that if you want PS3’s to really gain some further interest too is by having the free play open to everyone. I’ve noticed before as well that only a select few people were actually playing the PS3. Also, it seems like there was only one game being played on it each time. One LAN it was Resistance, another was the Eye of Judgment, and another had Pain running. I believe the reason that 360 and Wii has a higher popularity is that there are more games being played on it throughout the entire LANs duration. Also the types of games vary quite a bit too. So bring in as many PS3’s and TV’s as you can, set up a station for SCIV, one for Resistance, one for Pain, and maybe swap those games out for others during the course of the LAN. If you can showcase the diversity of the PS3’s library, you’ll get the attention of more gamers than if you played one fun game for 8 hours straight. And again, another good way for this to happen is the mini-LANs were going to hold, be it in the Cat’s Den or Central or where ever we can whenever we can.

ParticipantYea, thats probably what Im going to try to do, gotta get my PS3 fixed first. lol
September 5, 2008 at 7:30 pm #55575Ephraim
ParticipantI think that it’s fair to determine if PS3 games get tournies by voting, and of course it’s the perogitive of the Console President to decide the prefered console of multiplatform games. Still, the place of PS3 games at the LANs sounds like a good topic to discuss at the next meeting.
September 5, 2008 at 10:10 pm #55583Bitey
ParticipantI was thinking of doing 2 xbox, 2 wiis, and 1 ps3 just to bring it in. But Ephraim is right this is something we can discuss in an executive meeting.
