Oh MalleyParticipantYeah.. Mine’s for PC. I already downloaded mine for the 360. Meh. I didn’t care for it. Rydell, I’ll pm you the code.
Oh MalleyParticipantI think if you just structure it like you were going to have tournaments have big block times saying.. “Okay guys.. We’re gonna play some CS:Source” or whatever. Console guys can easily monitor this with plenty of leadership making sure everybody gets a turn.
Oh MalleyParticipantIt’s the way things go. We can schedule the games to make everybody happy. Pick and choose I guess. Besides, you can always rock out on the GH any other time during the LAN, because I’m pretty sure we’ll have one TV dedicated to that for most of the day.
Oh MalleyParticipantExactly. I think that idea would fit well especially if we go to four LANs a semester. Just alternate between the two styles. This way it gives plenty of time to accumulate funds for cash prizes at the competitive tournaments. And then you could give out a variety of door prizes at the non-competitive LAN. Honestly, the non-competitive LAN could just be organized freeplay with a few “tournaments” if people wanted to organize them.
By having a definite focus of atmosphere at each LAN, surely both types of LANs will grow and prosper in size.
Oh MalleyParticipantEh, I’ve been saying this for awhile now. But every time say the word competitive, tons of people go.. “Well we aren’t competitive at all. Competition = bad.” Or something of that equivalent. And by tons, I mean several people of that are firmly planted in this community.
Oh MalleyParticipantI think tF essentially has a Gears and Halo team here. We at least have 3 guys per team for sure.
Oh MalleyParticipantTV,
360,
Two Xbox 360 Controllers
Two Guitar Controllers,
Gears of War
Halo 3
Guitar Hero 3
Freeplay Games.
Oh MalleyParticipantRegister’d. If I get Gears 2 before the LAN, I’m definitely bringing this one in. Gotta make time for some freeplay for it. Possibly during the course Wii Bowling is going on.
Oh MalleyParticipantI know on our tF forums that we use different member groups a lot for the sake of making permissions easier as well as making contact with specific people a lot easier. It wouldn’t hurt to make a WCU Student group, but it would be a pain maintaining it, imo.
Oh MalleyParticipantI know we’ve worked with a couple guys with their Gears gameplay. And from what I saw from the events I went to Kaz-Ka and Eyce spent some time working with some guys for SCIV.
Honestly, I would like to work with people on Halo 3, Gears, or Vegas 2. Whether it be on-line or in person. So, just contact me and let me know and I’ll try to work something out with you.
Oh MalleyParticipantIf you want, just a get a hold of me, either via XFire, IRC, or AIM and I’ll hop on if I’m available.

We cannot speak for people that don’t come to the meetings that may play at the LAN. Only vote for games you will play, and we will not end up in this mess. Noone can be the judge of people that potentially come to the LANs, so stop trying. If you believe we need a different perspective on game selection, we need more people to come to our meetings – not trying to vote what you think they want.Honestly, I could care less about playing Brawl, SCIV, or Call of Duty 4. But I still vote for those games. Why? Because I know a ton of people come for those games and I know people that play them. But again, if we follow the same methodology that the club is there to serve us and should fit our whims and needs, then our prosperity will come to an end very soon. The club will kill itself over everyone’s wants and desires clashing with one another. For us to see progression, we need people to think how they can best serve the club and not the other way around.
Oh MalleyParticipantJust for the record, the Family has finally launched its mentoring program. Essentially, it’s the same as the Gaming Workshops, but it’s over Xbox Live. We’d love to add PS3 gamers as well as Wii once we get more people who play those systems into our community. Anyways, there’s a whole forum section on our site devoted to it. Feel free to check it out. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
Oh MalleyParticipantDude.. 2 was so much better than 3. 989 Studios eff’d that series all to heck. Granted, they redeemed themselves with Twisted Metal Black. Twisted Metal 2 > Twisted Metal Black > Twisted Metal 1 > The Rest.
Oh MalleyParticipantAgreed. This also means voting on games that we ourselves might not play, but ultimately will bring in more people. I’ve asked this question time and time again, how many people have we lost from consoles alone over games such as Gears, Call of Duty 4, and Guitar Hero, where there is a dedicated competitive community supporting them because other games got voted in. And honestly, it saddens me because the guys that come to these LANs for those games are awesome people and to have them become disappointed, leave, and me not be able to hang out with them for the LAN.
But if the ideal is to vote for games we want to play, then.. well, I want to play something other than Brawl and Wii Bowling, so I voted Gunbound. Because odds were you’d just put that in the toss away slot. I’d play TF2, but it’s always schedule at the same time as some other tournament I like to play in.
Oh MalleyParticipantAbsolutely correct. You put me in charge of consoles because you knew I would do something to get them up and running. And that I did.
We just need more motivated people in leadership positions, especially Marketing Admin (which I think Nickname will do well in). And honestly, I don’t think a console president would let the PC side of things die off. Well, anyone I would nominate or vote for. It’s not that we don’t have qualified people in our executive positions, it’s now we’re to a point where we have a lot of questions we need answered, a lot of conflicts that need to be resolved, and a more on-campus presence. Just my opinions, and I have my own ideas to remedy the situation. But we’ll see how it all goes down in January.

There’s always one or two REALLY good people and it’s a major turn off to everyone else.Isn’t that true for virtually every game that’s played? The same 3 or 4 respective people win the same tournament each LAN. Especially with Chupathingy and Call of Duty 4, but you’re playing that again. Furthermore, that’s the same reason why you kept UT2K4 off the books for so long, but you’re allowing it back. Trying another RTS would not hurt.

There aren’t any good fighter or puzzle games for PC. Unlike the consoles, they don’t release a zillion games per year for PC, we get maybe 3 good games per year and out of those maybe 1 is decent enough for tournament play, maybe. Then everyone who plays it has to have their own copy, instead of getting 4 players for a single $50 purchase. There are other alternatives than the big games released by major developers that have opportunities. 1) Play older games. They’re still fun and bring back good memories. Besides, I thought you guys were about fun. 2) Play some of the free stuff that’s out there. Gunbound is a good game and fun game. Again, I thought we were aiming for fun, not competition here. At least that’s what nearly every naysayer I’ve had come to me about pushing for more competitive based rules and settings has been telling me. 3) Again, trying 1 new game or mod will mix things up.
Furthermore, the consoles may be able to have cost distributed out better but at the same time we are limited by equipment just as you guys are. Call of Duty 4 was one of the games held back because you can only have 1 person per box playing over a System Link. And most other games, you can’t fit over 2 players per TV.

Because consoles are 1/4 the price and the university pushes freshmen parents hard to get university backed PCs that can’t play games. Also, remember we were here before you were and were hovering around a peak about the time consoles started so comparisons of growth speed isn’t really that fair. But everyone is required to have a PC. (Plus I think 1/4 the price is a bit exaggerated. Maybe 1/2. I built a good solid PC for under $600. My 360 cost more than half that.) If you try playing some games that are free to play or fairly cheap then the computer requirements are not an issue. Not everyone has a console or even access to one. Also, there should be no reason why consoles all of a sudden out number PC people. You guys were going strong and quickly expanding when the consoles were barely holding their first tournaments. Honestly, I see a lack of effort for recruiting more of an on-campus presence. There is virtually NO on-campus PC community as far as I’m concerned. Everyone goes off and does their little thing and plays with their one or two close friends. Maybe if you take steps to re-establish a firm PC community here, things would change.

How many LANs in a row have you played Halo3 and Guitar Hero?Actually, Guitar Hero hasn’t been in every LAN since we started it. Also, Guitar Hero is the only console tournament to ever get sponsored. And my point isn’t that we seemingly vote different games for each LAN, is that we constantly try to bring up new games EVERY meeting to try out. Your last “new” game to get introduced to the list was Call of Duty 4. PC plays mostly FPS’s. I don’t understand why there can’t be an RTS, some sort of fighter, a strategy game, a puzzle game, or whatever new for the PC list. All I’ve seen for the PC list are the same games just recycled over and over. Day of Defeat, UT2K4, Quake 3, Call of Duty 4, CSS, CS 1.6, and TF2. There was ONE Starcraft tournament and that was because a CONSOLE person pushed for it and ran it.
There’s an easy explanation why the console community has grown so much faster than the PC side.
Oh MalleyParticipantI’ve been one of the few behind the scenes pushing for change to come about. Our on-campus presence is somewhat mediocre. Yes we draw a lot of people to the LANs, but look at our meetings. We’ll have 30 show up to the first and then ~10 for the rest of them. I kinda threw up one of my big ideas towards the end (though I doubt it got noticed) about having alternating free-play and competitive LANs. I know I’ve talked to Bitey and Mouchet about it in detail and a few others in my circle, but that’s about it.
Oh MalleyParticipantThe thing is, now that it isn’t scheduled alongside a tourney most of us would play on the console side, I would seriously play this game. And God forbid you guys do something different for a change. Besides, this game is easy, fun and free. No worries about people not being able to get it or whatever. It’s a quick easy install and easy to pick up and play. Yes we’re proving a point, but we might as well try and have our fun doing it too.
Oh MalleyParticipantFor the rest of you guys, just so you know, it’s a clan that a group of us started. We have a huge core group here at Western and are growing in size slowly across the US. And we have a Canadian or two. Most of us are 360 gamers, but ideally, we want to be a competitive and casual clan and community for all gamers for all platforms. We asked Kaz-ka to join to help us get a PS3 sector going. Feel free to visit to our forums at http://www.tfgaming.net .
Oh MalleyParticipantI have several ideas to improve several multiple aspects and hopefully bring more people to the lans and club
Oh MalleyParticipant…Yet another thread lost to the whims of the intarwebz.
Anyways, my circle of minions.. or friends.. and I will be there.
Oh MalleyParticipantYeah. It’ll be considerably shorter if everyone actually bothers to just focus on business and let the socializing take place before or after the meeting. Plus it helps out we’re not doing elections. Hopefully there would be some open discussion on prior suggestions to make the LANs better. I know I’ve talked with Chris and Jason about this a lot and provided my suggestions and opinions.
Oh MalleyParticipantYeah. Or just random excerpts from your blog.
Or give out your recommendations for like.. top 10 best freeware that you need / should have.
Oh MalleyParticipantUpcoming LAN if it isn’t already mentioned. And the usual Saturday events over in Central would be worth a mention.
Also.. what about mentioning the various gaming servers we have on campus?
Oh MalleyParticipantIs the idea of 4 LANs a semester still rolling about or did that silently get shot down and I wasn’t aware of it?
