Yeah my laptop takes FOREVER to join TF2 games, even though its pretty beefy. For whatever reason, TF2 just takes a long time to load servers.

That is not true. Just because I don’t know exactly where pl_goldrush is on the server, I do know it has been there for well over a month.

a) everything is already on fast dl server AFAIK

hlstats is installed but keeps crashing; hopefully the reformat will fix it.

c) the respawn timer is set to 10 seconds, down from the default 20 and I see little reason to go any lower as all it does is help create stalemates.

d) I don’t know much about party mode but that is something I wouldn’t mind knowing more about.

e) the server name will stay the same it already is but I appreciate the suggestion.

penguin: when you join our TF2 server, besides the map, what do you see that needs to be changed? Cause like masterp said just chainging the map will not a populated server make.

the problem is us getting those 2-3 ppl to get it started, and even then we never seem to get more than about 6-7 at a time.

for $50 more you can get the 9800GTX KO which I think is a better deal but w/e. The 8800gt is still really good.

 

Or if you can withstand an ATI card the radeon 4850 is really good (typically on par or slightly better than the 9800gtx) and can be had at about $200.

All of a sudden the gfx card community has some great price/perf. offerings, including the new 9800gtx+ which is supposed to be released later this week.

I don’t really think that was necessary but…

The server hasn’t been working for awhile cause it never got updated after the last valve update; keeping anyone from being able to join at all.

Here is the problem as I see it magical penguin:

 

I honestly don’t think there is anything wrong with the config on our server. We only run the most played maps (and note both dustbowl and goldrush are on the rotation), we have a nice 10 sec respawn time which is great for gameplay etc.

 

The problem isn’t in the config its in the players. To populate a TF2 server takes time and several people. The problem is getting a large enough group of people together to join the server all at once so it will get full; once a TF2 server gets full it typically stays full. If you change the server to 24/7 dustbowl/goldrush, you aren’t fixing the problem. People are still going to ignore the server if its at 0/24.

 

Now I have tried throwing everything but the kitchen sink at this server to make it work. If you all want to try moving it to 24/7 whatever then go for it but I truly don’t believe that will fix a *edited* thing.

 

If you have other suggestions about the rotation, config, etc I am more than happy to hear/consider them.

Bull*edited* I have had that desktop for quite some time, unless you are referring to the case which I HAVE owned for quite awhile just not used as my case (it was susan’s case before).
