It does concern me that Sony would render entire 300 dolla consoles useless on the internet though.
Why? M$ does the same thing with XBL.

Well Scott’s is pretty crappy too but A/B is by far the worst. One summer they had like 5 switches die in one closet alone with no load at all. Both closets have AC units that are broken.
Scott has the least reliable DHCP allotment. I tried to get it fixed over the summer but no one cared. They assume no one is going to hook up a gaming console or 2nd computer and with 30 day IP reservations, well, yeah that’s an inb4’able disaster.
Anywho, can we get a meeting minutes?
I can attest to the fact that AB has the worst networking closet ever. And yes I was there when the switches dies for no reason… multiple times. Completely terrible.
Scott is kinda funny because they have water lines that run completely around all of the switches… with nothing protecting them… lol
And you cannot have meeting minutes for a meeting that hasnt happened yet

maybe a rocking minecraft server or something, i was always surprised that wcu didn’t have a cod4 server back when cod4 was still pretty popular
what? we had a COD4 server for quite awhile, it was just always empty so it was deleted

ParticipantIt is with deep regret that I must inform all of you that post #2098 in the greatest thread ever to grace these forums will be the last.
The complete loss of an online community for this club and the loss of one of the club’s greatest contributors, and co-owner of this thread (the beloved MajorMajorMajor) has forced me to realize that this thread will never be the same. Rather than drag out this thread’s miserable existence any longer, I have decided to just end it.
I know many of you can post in locked threads, but I hope that, in respect to this thread and what it means to these forums, you will preserve this locking.
Farewell to thee great thread. You will be missed.

Yeah I know but that’s an extra $40 you have to spend, $60+ if you want a good brand. Add $60 to the laptop and you can probably get a better model that comes with one.
The idea is that its nice to have a computer without one from a size/portability/battery life standpoint.

No optical drive is a dealbreaker for me.
It was a hassle getting Office07, MATLAB, and Mathematica on my mini via network and USB. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to install games that way.
You’ll also have to use USB or WDS for windows7 reinstalls but those are actually the preferred methods now. Both are lightyears faster than DVD.
you know there are things called external dvd drives.
Also that is the computer I have been eyeing to get for awhile so I think its a great deal dicey

Participant11.6 in almost all use standard 2.5in hdd so you should be able to change yourself. They are pretty solid so I think you will be happy, just make sure you do your research. Ever manufacturer has models that come out that are duds so make sure you dont get one of those lol.

Don’t get Acer. They’re cheap for a reason, mainly because they’re terrible. If I remember correctly, Mike had problems with his when he first got it. He got it fixed but I prefer computers that “just work” from day 1
I disagree completely. Yes, mine did have a problem, it had a bad intel wireless card. Those same cards are used by HP, dell, gateway, ASUS, apple, etc, so I very easily could have had the same problem with another manufacturer. The fact is once I got that fixed, the computer has worked flawlessly and has even survived a 3 month trip to Egypt courtesy of my sister-in-law. You can experience problems with computers from all the major manufacturers, and Acer doesn’t use the same cheap materials they used to use 2-3 years ago, so I would be confident buying another one.
I do agree I would stay away from a mini though, they are way underpowered and you will not be satisfied with it in the long run. There really is no reason to not buy a computer with an i3/i5 processor, period.

ParticipantI have the acer 1410 and its pretty sweet; the 1430 is basically the same but faster cpu so looks like a win to me.
And yes you can swap the drives

Slightly off topic: my time warner remote works great with my xbox. Will generic multi device remotes work with the PS3 too?
Can you elaborate on what you use that for?
I use it to control the xbox like for dvd playing, netflix etc
Nickname
ParticipantWell the idea wasnt for the benefit of games but for the media convenience.
I guess if you are interested in the PS3 games, then getting a ps3 is pretty much a no brainer, and that is regardless of the ps move (not gonna consider it much of a benefit until it really takes off, and i have the same stance on the kinect).

ParticipantAlso, MS did release the seperate hd-dvd drive for xbox (lol i know)
IF MS cared about the consumer (they don’t), they would release a bluray drive for xbox, or better yet the 360 slim wouldve included the bluray built in a la ps3. MS really did have the chance to make PS3 irrelevant with that but completely dropped the ball.
