I don’t know the timeline for when the new server will come in, but I have heard the specs and believe me we can run more than “another dedicated server or two”

I think its good to do a mixture of graphically demanding games and older games/games that aren’t graphically demanding.
I would seriously suggest looking at playing games like Day of Defeat, Call of Duty (original), Counterstrike 1.6, Quake 3, etc as most any computer on campus can play them yet they are still good, fun, competitive games. I’m not taking away from games like CSS, L4d, TF2, etc cause I love those games but I think PC capabilities is what keeps a lot of people from playing them.

I stopped reading like half way through Master P’s last long post because I got tired of reading. I really hate I missed the meeting. Once I found out there was a gaming group here at WCU, I badly wanted to join as I am very big on gaming. Currently the only game I own that WCU plays is CSS. I pretty much play nothing but CSS. As for the admins getting the ability to change maps, I’ve seen this work very successfully. The admin would start a map vote and if the majority said yes, then a random map vote would start. Or everyone would RTV or complain to an admin enough and he would just change it. I’ve never seen this ability get abused.
I don’t know how valuable my input was but it is here for your(plural) discretion.

Also FYI Modern Warfare 2 will be released November 10th and I think you guys moved the lan to October 31st so I guess you will be playing COD4
as a compromise, I think we should reenact something we had in the past, which was the option for admins to throw up a map vote to change to certain popular maps, i.e. de_dust2, cs_office. I think this is a fair comprimise because if the server is on an unpopular level, we can get it back to a popular one, and since its a server vote, it can’t be abused nearly as badly as simply being able to change maps at will.
ON ANOTHER TOPIC: Why wasn’t the Webmaster position voted on?
kazka you are taking advice of how to run a CSS server from a room of people that don’t play CSS… does that even make sense?
We have the server on campus, only our CS and CSS servers even attract people… so how are they failing and how is CS “dead” or “dying out”. I really just don’t understand at all. We have had a TF2 server which people seem to like yet NOBODY EVER plays on it.
I don’t want to argue all night about this, but just answer this question for me. If we were to turn off the CS and CSS servers, since “most of the people at our meeting were literally SCREAMING to get rid of all the CS stuff altogether because they believe it has played its course and is pretty much dead”, what would we use our server for? What can we offer that would be more beneficial for the students at WCU?

I mean if you bring it to student computing on campus that’s all they are gonna do (trust me, worked there 3 years)

Ok, neither of those problems are Vista’s fault, and you could have easily had the same thing happen in XP.
1. I will assume you are using office 07 (if not, upgrade). Click on the windows logo in the top left and then choose Word Options (at the bottom of the menu that pops up). Go to “Display” and uncheck everything under “Always show these formatting marks on the screen”.
2. I am guessing you are using either norton 360 or norton internet security. First, download Symantec Endpoint Protection FREE from WCU (http://www.wcu.edu/10695.asp), it is made by the same company as the norton garbage but never expires and is much less resource intensive. Then, Go to Start -> control panel -> programs & features, find what you are using and uninstall it (you will probably have to restart). Next, Download the norton removal tool here: http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_d4749.html and run it. Then, restart and install Symantec Endpoint Protection you just downloaded, and you should be good to go.

First, you need to decide which of these servers we are keeping and which are going… I thought that was supposed to be brought up last meeting but idk if it was.
All those servers will need Council Leaders… those used to be voted in positions though, not appointed.

I see 2 major issues with that build.
First, do not go and spend $1500 on a computer and then use a $20 walmart keyboard. That is retarded. Go buy something decent from logitech; you can get a $25 logitech keyboard from newegg that is lightyears better than the *edited* walmart carries.
Second, do not spend $1500 on a computer and trust your computer to a raidmax power supply. Seriously. Get something from a major brand please: Thermaltake, Antec, Coolermaster, OCZ, etc. Believe me, you will regret it if you don’t.
Other than that it should be a nice computer for you!
