ParticipantThe results are in and new changes to the officers and tourneys are voted for. It happens that I am now VP for PC due to lack of Competition, but I stand steadfast.
Old tourneys are being dropped and new ones are taking their place. I stand for allowing new blood on the scene, however I still require the help of all the old blood of the club. Within the next few weeks, I’ll be passing ideals around for new games and setups with our PC Tables. Right now thou, I need a list of PC aligned Positions that need/can be filled immediately and the name of any veteran club members to fill them. I’ll be creating new positions for PC side to help me in transition and learning the ropes.
I ask that the following people send me a PM for discussions as I have seen and heard their experience on PC and need their guidance. NoDice, MasterP, OhMalley, & Adambomb.
To anyone else I haven’t mentioned, I will still need people willing to fill PC positions once I create them later next week with permission with the Prez. The rest of this Topic is open for discussion and tips that the club feels that I should know about. When I create the positions and fill the others, I will list them in a new thread along with changes and new things I wish to add.
Thank you for your time and hope for a good year.
09/04/09 Edited for quick Viewing:
CS 1.6 – Adam
CS:S – Lemm or Ex
TF2 – Nathan Golder
L4D – Garrett Gomez
I would like to add that even thou Nathan and Garrett are my friends, I need someone else who is willing to assist these two in training and up keep of their respective Servers until they are up to speed.
Lemm & Ex: Once again I can’t stress the fact that I am sorry for causing this confusion and frustration. However, me apologizing till I’m blue in the face won’t solve anything. My decision will be posted along with two new positions up for grabs on Monday-Tuesday next week.

ParticipantWell, being that I’m predominantly console I doubt I will be as much help as the others.. But as far as general advice, I’m willing to help out.

ParticipantFirst, you need to decide which of these servers we are keeping and which are going… I thought that was supposed to be brought up last meeting but idk if it was.
All those servers will need Council Leaders… those used to be voted in positions though, not appointed.
Anyways, I can also lend my expertise
September 4, 2009 at 8:45 am #90862Oh Malley
ParticipantAlso.. after you decide what servers you’re going to keep/make/whatever…
ADVERTISE THEM ON CAMPUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!oneoneoneone!!!!111
We haven’t in the past. Do it now if you want PC’s to grow on campus. Work with the Marketing Admin on this one.

ParticipantI will be able to advise on the PC side of things. Their are a few of us oldies out here(more than your list of 4) that have been through the trial and error phases, we will be able to let you know some history and guide you though what works.
but first off congratulations!!! and your off to a great start! Stay active with the community and seek guidance as you have, theirs a lot of help out here, just gotta ask.
I’m willing to continue as TF2 CL if the community would like, however i would rather someone on campus take first snag.
September 4, 2009 at 10:05 am #90867adam37
ParticipantYes congrats btw! I will still be here as 1.6 CL, so let me know if I can do anything

September 4, 2009 at 1:23 pm #90910adam37
ParticipantIts more of, we need more on-campus people getting into 1.6 and source if we want to keep it alive.

ParticipantThe “current” needed Cls Are as follows: (From memory so, ask Kaz for complete list if I *edited* up)
CS 1.6
CS:S
TF2
L4D
CounterStrike: GunGame has been taken down due to no population.
Lemm and Ex: I am sorry for the screw up last night. I was busy typing a list to be voted on and completely forgot about giving it to one of you. However, If Kaz will allows it, I will place one or both of you in the position. I am still a bit fuzzy on the positions jobs. But would you both PM me with your credentials, I will assign you accordingly (Within Club Rules). The CL positions were assigned at the meeting based more on who wanted to do it and and a lot less on who can/got voted to do so.
Adam: If you would like to put it up for vote again, We can set up a vote for PC VP with your name on the list. I was basically given the position before I could finish standing up so people could see who I am. I want to give everyone a clear and fair chance at everything.
To the People: PC has been dying since I joined the club 3 years ago, and we need to bring it back up on Par with Consoles. To clarify, I do NOT hate CS 1.6 and CS:S. I enjoyed both when i got my first gaming computer 4 years ago and would really like to see it continue on. However, The new players and old alike wished for something new and Worms and Warcraft 3 won by a landslide. I have a few ideas on how to accomplish these tourneys already and with your guys help, we can do it within time constraints. I’ll ask Kaz to list all the “assigned” Cls current and fix things from there.

ParticipantJust so you know.. start figuring out how you’re going to get every computer installed with the LAN games. TF2/L4D will be easy since they’re on the Steam LAN accounts. And also, factor in some install times for the tournaments while you’re trying to factor tournament length and settings.
For the record, this is why we’ve stuck with a lot of Steam games. They’re fairly popular, plus you don’t have to worry about getting multiple copies on every computer fast. Hence why the UT, CoD, and other non-Steam tournaments have been a severe pain in the *edited* for the staff in charge of setting and running those tournaments up.
Also… in my opinion (and since no one seems to have thought of this or bothered to have mentioned it), perhaps the PC side is dying for another reason. Lack of community. I believe it will be proven if you guys still choose to “try new games” to see if it’ll fix anything. The PC community has looked fairly weak in comparison to the console side because of the difference in community strengths. I haven’t seen much of an effort from the PC side to go out and do things together as a collective group to encourage camaraderie and laid the foundation of a solid community. That’s what I did for the console side on the get go, and I credit that to being the primary contributor in why the console side exploded in size and continued to grow even after I stepped aside as the lead proponent.
Just throwing this out there, but it’s something for you to try. Try to organize some get-together events with your PC peeps. It may not be playing games, but movie nights, going out to eat, just hanging out, or whatever, should help start building the foundation needed to rebuild.

Sounds like he’s got some good ideas there…. but yeah with the lan go ahead and figure in some leeway time for things to go wrong or take a lot longer than they should… because it WILL happen. The best thing you can do is to start preparing for it.. get all the server configs together and test all of them now and about a week before the lan.

ParticipantI’m practically an old hand with the PC stuff, but I haven’t played a real PC game in forever (mainly due to problems regarding running newer games).
The main problem with the PC (I think) is that there isn’t enough graphically capable PCs on campus. I see a lot of plastic MacBooks (like what I have), and I see a ton of computers that don’t run CSS and many other newer games very well.
I don’t know whether we could wing a sponsorship deal with Alienware or not (however, since we have a sponsorship deal with Gamestop, it wouldn’t hurt to ask), but if we could nail an Alienware sponsorship deal, the WCU Gaming Club could give away Alienware PCs with a voucher to come to the next LAN event. Just an idea I had, if it isn’t feasible, don’t take it personal.

ParticipantDell was going to give us 10 gaming laptops but the campus rep either lied about the whole thing or didn’t care to follow up about the laptops that “were ordered a month ago but haven’t shipped yet”. Dell (which owns alienware) pretty much fell completely through and left us with our pants down and I’m not sure the club needs to go that route again.
With the economy being the way it is it’s highly doubtful we’ll get any sort of sponsorship like that but once things pick back up I imagine it’s very doable. Again, I wouldn’t go the Dell route. We do have a campus agreement with HP so we might try them next.
September 7, 2009 at 3:46 pm #91130BJWanlund
ParticipantI’ve noticed that Dell has completely dropped the ball on a number of different cases, and sadly, I’m not surprised by what you say. Dell used to be such a good company, and now they’re in the toilet.
Too bad, as the Dell I had back in the late 90s was one of my favorite desktop gaming PCs. I guess you can’t go home again.

ParticipantI think its good to do a mixture of graphically demanding games and older games/games that aren’t graphically demanding.
I would seriously suggest looking at playing games like Day of Defeat, Call of Duty (original), Counterstrike 1.6, Quake 3, etc as most any computer on campus can play them yet they are still good, fun, competitive games. I’m not taking away from games like CSS, L4d, TF2, etc cause I love those games but I think PC capabilities is what keeps a lot of people from playing them.

Oooo sounds fun .. I’d def be down for some vCoD, 1.6, and Quake 3… I wouldn’t be very good at any of them.. but I really used to play CoD and Quake 3 back in the day.
September 7, 2009 at 7:27 pm #91137MasterP
ParticipantWe used to play Quake3 at the LANs and I still have the quick-deploy for it on the server. Nice little tournament but like UT2004 the same 2-3 people win EVERY time.
Btw, feel free to vote in Day of Defeat: Source. I’d love to get another prize…

ParticipantHeero Shin as far as the list of CLs looks, it seems right. And as far as Lemm and Ex go, Im going to leave it up to you. Just do what you think will work best.
