Server was up when I posted that above (because I played in it) and is up again right now.

First and foremost I want to apologize for the player hosted servers for L4D on the PC side. I redid all 5 the servers this morning and still had trouble making things work. There are several issues with the dedicated server that prevent mapchanging when using passwords and LAN settings. I will be contacting Valve about them next week.
The problem can’t be fixed by actions on our end.

I accidently the whole server.
I transplanted most of the core files from one of the working LAN servers and overwrote whatever file was corrupted.
The server is now back online.
It’s a little contradictory, I know.
You tell the idiot anything you need to get them to install Windows7 because you know once they have it they’re much less likely to be asking you to fix a bluescreen or crash.
So apparently the demo is awesome.
WCU Gaming will be providing at least 1 dedicated server for the demo, hopefully more.
Win7 is simply a large service pack upgrade with an improved UI and tons of bugfixes.
When you strip away all the pretties there’s really not much new going on under the hood.
Because I don’t know what’s wrong with it.
The fix for it likely isn’t very hard but it’s going to take a good 30-60 minutes of debugging to find what the problem is. Even if the CL was epicly good, tracking the problem down remotely would take much longer.
No one expects a perfect game. They should go ahead and release it and patch it up in the next few days. Unless they’re major bugs they shouldn’t matter but if they’re major bugs they wouldn’t have them fixed for a few days anyway.
It’s been down for well over a month. Part of me wanted to wait and see how long it took for someone to actually notice but in reality I just haven’t had the time to debug or reinstall it.
It’s already on my list of things to do while I’m setting up the LAN servers.
Someone found the Valve employee steamgroup and a good number of them are already playing it.
I’m sure they’re just “testing” it.

It’s in the Grand Room on the 3rd floor of the UC. Go in the front entrance of the UC, up the flight of stairs. At the top there will be a door on the left that leads to another set of stairs. Once up them the grand room is straight ahead.
Alternatively you can go in through the upper back entrance and if you keep straight you’ll get there too.
From Walker either way takes about the same time walking.

Please don’t tell me I have to make another copy of steam for this *edited*.
If Steam doesn’t work you did something seriously wrong. You should be able to install Steam in Win7 and then copy over your steamapps folder and everything just works.
That’s what I did when I did a fresh install from Vista anyway.

Don’t hold your breath. L4D2 early access demo is just a myth. The public announcement about its lack of existence is expected at any moment.

We’ve had alot of issues with this in the past as the people running the door don’t always know who has and who hasn’t paid in advance and things just get messy. Talk with Kaz-ka IRL and see if he’ll let you. So long as prepayers are kept to just a small handful and the people at the door have the full list it shouldn’t be a problem.
