ParticipantCan we have Mach4 for the first round and Turbine for the second? Or vice versa? Mach4 will be epic in scale and Turbine will favor the team that is better at defending.

reverse order gungame (meaning you start with the para and go down to knife) is the best thing out there. it’s a TON of fun and can keep a server populated at all times. that has my voteNot sure what order it would be but definately not forward.

There’s going to be so much tension at this LAN.No more than normal.
Tbh, save your money. No LAN is worth a large chunk of your money.
MasterP
ParticipantI personally would like to see a gungame. I think it would be the easiest to populate and the least taxing on the server.

What’s the point of bringing it up at meeting if the votes at the meeting mean nothing?Don’t bother, I’ve said that already. They don’t care.
exile: I cause drama because I’ve been in the club long enough to what the REAL RULES are. When people start breaking them and the execs approve of it that means the club is compromising it’s own core values for the pure sake of getting more people in that room. If that’s all we care about now we’ve come a LONG way from what the club was founded on.
Dark omen: feel free to back up your demographic claims with some numbers of your own. To my knowledge there aren’t any.
Chaoswolf: That’s not what I said, and you know it. Go re-read my post.

Are the weapons you get form achievements going to be available? Or are we going to go stock only for the new people.Or for the old. I don’t have any achievements yet as that’s not why I play TF2.
Btw, why does *edited* from this thread keep getting deleted?

ParticipantI’m going to post this then be done, again.

Because we are trying to bring PS3 tournaments into the LAN and many people showed an interest in this. And you don’t see a problem with tossing a known good game out just because of the console it’s on?

if you like Mario Kart Wii that much set it up at the LAN and prove to me that people want to play it.Ok I’ll approach it from your angle then. Neither Mario Kart Wii nor Soul Calibur 4 were out where we had the last LAN. Why would a game with no recent history with the club get to skip over the trial phase and one with a strong history have to go through it?

ParticipantBitey said:
I don’t see the issue, I see clarification given, what happened after that was the *edited*ing and moaning right?lol?
I don’t really want to get into a *edited*ing match on a Monday but once the votes are taken they aren’t supposed to be untaken. If that’s the case why bother discussing games at the general meetings at all? Consoles are already negating the input from PC players anyway, what’s the point?
MasterP
ParticipantBitey said:
No I wouldn’t “*edited* and whine”, I would ask for clarification.MasterP said:
No Mario Kart or Wii Bowling? Wtf?What was the point of even having a vote for console games at the general meeting if the results were subject to change later?
I did, look how it went.
Shingi said:
At the meeting we were discussing on how to run the Mario Kart Wii tournament. When no one knew any good settings I asked in general who all actually wanted to play the game as a tourney and the result was none. So we took a vote to replace it with another game that had more interest and that was Guitar Hero III.MasterP
ParticipantBitey said:
Instead of immediately bashing them I helped them into finding out the root of the issue, its what I expected from everyone else and well, I think we know what happened, if all people do is flame people then what do you expect in return? If they can’t accurately describe why the broke the rules or why votes at the general meeting were ignored did you expect people who felt shortchanged to just sit there and take it? Had me and Nickname had a little meeting and taken a PC game that won public vote out of tournament play and swapped it with something you felt a weaker game would you not be here *edited*ing and whining just as much?
MasterP
ParticipantBitey said:
Oh I see the issue, consoles opted to do 6 tournaments instead of 5, they realize that this means some of their tournaments will have to be played at the same time as others, so the decision was made to not do Mario Kart Wii since there is a lack of people who own the game, but we know for a fact that many people own GH3, we based this on the amount of people that were in the tournament last time. Also the normal difficulty will be on hard and only if the two players agree will it be upped to expert, the final round will be expert regardless. I think this works just fine and seeing how GH3 was successful in the past confirms to me that this was the right choice, Mario Kart Wii is still unsure, it will be available for Free Play lets see how it does there. So why didn’t the console execs just sling that out there as the excuse. Sounds a WHOLE LOT better and at least attempts a semblance of adherence to the Constitution.

their was a tie? ROFLmajackulation,, if that was stated early on, their never would been this whole ordeal going on. GGBitey said:
That is why I posted lol, I had noticed that this had never even been brought up.The tie has nothing to do with the issue as the 2 games that tied were dropped even though both had more votes than other games being played.
As Nickname said above…
Go look at the meeting minutes for the general meeting.

One idea is to get a list of new players who will be attending the LAN and set up a TF2 workshop. Just something to teach them how to play the game and give the newer players a little practice.Sounds like a great idea. Set one up and advert it. Might be a good idea to offer this for all the PC games as the new guys may not be familiar with how to pwn at them.

I do find it funny however, that there was ample warning that the game replacement would be discussed. It’s tentative topic number two listed for the console meeting announcement. It wasn’t discussed as a major issue. The impression that was given from posts and announcements was that you were going to decide settings, layouts, and brackets. Had you said you were going to change games I can guarantee you’d have had more people there.

ParticipantAudyo said:
When I was console president, I did voice the issues of lack of space and power to the executives. I was told that a new layout would be done before the LAN and I would be contacted to help get what I thought the console section would need. This never happened. So do not use the excuse of us not voicing our opinions and concerns.I was talking about at the LAN itself. If you see the PC section with an empty table and need it, tell Bitey and he’ll give it to you.
Audyo said:
and an access to the power supply. This has already been discussed and resolved.
How about some console execs show up at 9-10 while we are moving all the tables and setting up so we can decide then how best to use what we have. We can draw pictures and pre-plan all we want but the truth is we really have no idea what the UC is going to give us as it’s different almost every time.
MasterP
ParticipantMaybe play with the settings. The other day I made deagle5 a lowgravity knife fight and people loved it.
MasterP
ParticipantI’m done arguing with consoles. If they want to fail or not go by the set rules, that’s their decision. I’ll hook up your power and be on my merry way.

Yeah I get upset with how we get shafted on space and power bc of them I mean hell we are a growing section and we need more room, you dont need a whole table for a laptop, people inthe console area are sitting on top each other during tournaments. We can’t fix problems if we don’t know they exist. I know math is hard for some but *edited* if you can’t use some common sense about plugging too many cords into an outlet. I will be handling power for the consoles at the LAN and it won’t be an issue again. If it goes out this time, everyone will be *edited*ed.
As for space, if you need more, TALK TO SOMEONE. If the PCs aren’t using all their allotted tables we will give you some but you do have to let us know you’re out of table space. If we don’t know it’s a problem we won’t try to fix it.
MasterP
ParticipantIt doesn’t empty the server as much as SK3.

ParticipantBtw, lower-end gaming laptops can still win at LANs. Took mine to ASU and well, yeah.

ParticipantExiLe said:
next time just go to the console meetingI’m going to say this as clearly as I can because I’m done with consoles for the time being; votes for LAN games are supposed to be held at the general meeting where attendence is at it’s highest. This is the way it’s always been done. If you have no intention of honoring a vote held at the general meeting, don’t waste everyone’s time holding one at all. Just have your own seperate meetings and decide things the way you did this time. Keep in mind that your meetings will be smaller and you will get much less input on how things should be, both of which occured. You’ll end up playing games that YOU like but the 50-70 others may not.
The point being made here, the one most of you keep missing, was that you arbitrarily overrode decisions made by popular vote at the general meeting. This is something that isn’t supposed to happen unless you have historical evidence to back up the change. In this case, you do not.

ParticipantRydell382 said:
Stay on topic plz…Anyway, Lets vote, Post 1 word either random or captain, and then we’ll go from there
Do this at signups at the LAN itself. That way those who want to play but don’t frequent the forums can better participate.

And i know most of us are bringing our own TVs and Systems to this LAN btw.I’ll believe it when I see it. Maybe most of the 15 of you at the meeting are but the 50-70 others aren’t.
ExiLe said:
But honestly is there such thing as a casual gamer? i dont know one single person who doesnt take the game they play seriously. When it comes to consoles, there are many more casual gamers than hardcore. I am a casual console gamer. How serious I am about winning has nothing to do with how often I play console games or how good I am at them. Casual means you don’t play often, hardcore means you play all the time, skill level isn’t necessarily based on gameplay time. I won the Day of Defeat Source tournament twice in a row having never played in an open server before the first win and only twice before the second, this makes me a casual gamer at that particular game.

The games that are in the LAN right now are all the main games that are played on campus. dont get my wrong i would LOVE to see mario kart in the LAN i love it but even though im not going to be in the SC4 or GH3 tounrey i know more people would want to be.How long have you been on campus? Being a senior I can tell you the majority of people on campus play Halo3, Mario Kart, and Smash Brothers. Maybe guitar hero is fun by yourself but it’s a major turnoff when you watch someone play on expert at the LAN when you can barely manage hard. You know you’ve lost before you even play and that’s not the sort of game we need.
