Oops… what i meant to say is, all the TF2 players on campus and in the surrounding area/in the club.I would host something if my upload didn’t suck major balls. The powers that be are too retarded to set something like that up for us off campus people. Besides, you can’t have a LAN over the internet anyways. Kinda makes it a WAN at that point…Maybe you could figure out a way to make up some teams and we could password the server and scrim or something. If u wanted to do mini tournaments to flaunt the epeen (no prizes). I’m down for that, any chance i get to own nickname/kip is good with me.

Participantwhat i meant is, to rent a room, one not quite as big as the Grand room, maybe the Catamount room? Then we just do it like a normal LAN, order pizza and stuff, just hang out and have a good time. Unfortunately, i’m a freshman and i dont quite know how the room reservations work yet.

Unfortunately, i’m a freshman and i dont quite know how the room reservations work yet.Room Reservations are the easy part, you just go tell Jill Lindsay that you want a room and it’s for the gaming club. if it’s not a meeting, it has to be paid for. you also have to meet power requirements (it’s not easy feeding 20+ machines that want an average of 450 watts of power). also, pizza and drinks/chips are paid for by residential living. There are a lot of factors that go into a LAN, but they would not be hard to overcome as long as you go through the normal channels. Food would be a big thing (go downstairs and get some chikinz, problem solved) but power would be your main issue. you’d have to use the gaming clubs power box and you’d probably be in the Multipurpose room. also got to get a switch from networking and that switch has to be configured for the event. like i said, a lot of stuff goes into the events. if i wasn’t in raleigh, i’d be down with it.

ParticipantDepending how many people show. and pending the number of laptops. the MP power grid is set up so each outlet is on its own circuit. you can easly do a PC and a laptop on out wall outlet. their are about 8 in the MP room. For food i’d say stick to the caferteria, or everyone pitch in and get a pizza’s. Getting funding for everything takes time. and the club all ready uses more than our allotted shair of the ResLife funds, not to sure they will give us more for a ~10person event.
and as far as networking i dobut we need any big swiches, they have a few wall ethernet outlets in the MP room, we need like 2 or 3 6 ppl hub/switch and we would be set. but as nickname said. he can take care of all that much better than i can. The only problem i can forsee is funding for the room. I think your best bet is to get a studdy room booked in one of the dorms. they are free.
also you can look into holding a computer lab in like belk. i dont think they charged for them. This is where we held our first few LAN’s when the club was only 30people wide

and as far as networking blah blah blahNetworking has some nice 48 port switches just sitting on a shelf in their office that I’m sure we could use; would only take about 5 mins to get them configured for our usage.

ParticipantMostly scared for my own computer, its finicky, also I am not sure if the computer lab computers will run TF2, something we should definitely look into.

September 15, 2008 at 3:08 pm #56659Bitey
ParticipantThen that is a problem there with using the computer labs, it would have to be a bring your own computer, or if I can let Dell know in enough time he can get us those gaming laptops.
September 15, 2008 at 3:10 pm #56663Rydell382
Participantthat’ll work, for those who cant bring in their desktops, I play on a laptop with a mouse and it works just fine, so i’ll be bringing my own.

September 15, 2008 at 3:42 pm #56679Bitey
ParticipantI am considering a meeting to talk about a lot of what has gone on recently very soon after the LAN, like maybe the Thursday after the LAN or something.
September 15, 2008 at 3:44 pm #56682Nickname
ParticipantUPDATE: the chance that I can go to the real LAN has increased from 0% to 0.001%!
I’m trying to get there guys, but I don’t think its gonna happen.
