ParticipantIf we don’t know what the rest of the computer costs or how much you’re willing to spend how are we supposed to be able to help you?

A: there is no 3dmark07, I assume you meant 3dmark06B: synthetic benchmarks are rarely indicative of real-world performance
C: Whoever said quads suck, you sir are retarded. My point was that a a higher clocked dual core would be better for GAMING. Obviously if you want to do a lot of encoding, photoshop, etc, the quad core would be more beneficial.
A) Assumptions are sometimes correct.
How is almost twice the framerate in the CPU test not indicative or real-world performance? That’s like saying a car with twice as powerful an engine doesn’t really go much faster. I do believe a Mustang goes faster than hybrid Toyota.C) When Vista spreads the load between the cores, is there really a difference between gaming and encoding?

ParticipantMy MX518 is virtually identical in feel and it’s the most comfortable mouse I’ve ever touched.
You sir are about to lose posting rights in this section of the forums.

Btw, for those wondering. A friend of mine overclocked his E6600 (2.4GHz dual) to try to match my Q6600 (2.4GHz quad). Even at a 50% overclock (3.6Ghz) he got significantly lower processor scores in 3D Mark ’07 than my quad at stock frequencies.
Get a quad. If you can’t afford one, don’t bother with future upgradability as the new intel processors already use a different socket.

I am emailing the appropriate people and will let you know when I get a concrete answer. I am thinking if we get the lab from 6pm-12am maybe we could do 2 tourneys? maybe Q3A and COD:UO or something like that (alternatives: UT, RtCW:ET, maybe battlefield). I would really like to do DOD but I don’t have the old skool files from before steam was around. If anybody can get those to me that would be great. Same for CS.Adam says we might be able to get the steam rentals going for this event. That would eliminate the hunting.

ParticipantYet another “take the money and run” scam. After what CPL pulled I don’t know why anyone would want to still play these games competitively. All they care about is making money off your free time.

i am trying to make it as cheap as possible while still making it worth it for atleast the next few years. preferably the next 5-10 lol.and i don’t even know what SLI is. my friend put this together for me cause i don’t really know much about parts
A tip for your friend, he just voided your CPU warranty. I recommend using a smart friend next time.
Btw, 5-10 years is unreasonable. Shoot for 2-3 years.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen…cname=c01087277Well apparently it explains a lot here. This really shows how *edited*ty HP services and customer care has really gone.
This problem has been around a lot, and they havn’t really done much to fix it. Unforuntatly I should’ve done more research
when i bought mine, but yeah just a bit too late for me w/ this computer.
If your thinking about buying an HP or something just be careful, they have a lot of issues lately. T_T
Actually that link proves quite the opposite. They are freely extending the warranty period to cover a common problem and offering free service to fix it. It’s actually quite rare for a computer manufacturer to freely extend the warranty to cover known problems that require hardware repairs and even more rare for them to cover shipping both ways to fix it.
If you compare the newer HPs to Gateway, Acer, and Dell you’ll find that HP has a lower incident of hardware failure and the vast majority of the failures I’ve seen are apparently covered under that free return. Everyone else has ti pay for repairs out of pocket.

whered my post go???i asked if i needed the game to have a friend code and play it or not. it may seem stupid but still
The friend code is tied to your Wii (I believe) and yes you have to have a multiplayer online capable game to play games online.

ParticipantThe software mods are really cool but yeah modchips are outside my league. I can play DVD movies, watch divx videos off USB hard drives, and use SDHC cards but Nintendo is starting to fix the security loopholes that allow it in their updates so it’s kinda touchy. They aren’t bricking Wiis but they remove the ability to install new homebrew apps.
Right now the only thing worth noting is Brawl but over the Thanksgiving break (IE Black Friday) I’m going to stock up. What good multiplayer games are worth looking into?
MasterP
ParticipantTrue enough. Valve does have a bad habit of leaving bugs in and fixing them retroactively once they are whined about enough.

enable the developer console and in console, type “openserverbrowser”. No more matchmaking system ftw.Really though, it was dropping me in full servers and then kicking me because they were full. It also put me in servers made of lag where everyone had 1 bar of signal. If Valve intends to push this “feature” they really need to talk to MS and Nintendo about how to run a real matchmaking service.
