At our next meeting I would like to nominate Left4Dead as a hosted game by our club. Each server only holds 8 players so it would work best if we had more than 1 server.
Also, if it does get voted in I would like to run it. I see this game being extremely popular and I don’t believe the server would have a hard time being populated seeing as how 4 people can join and have a blast.
Hosting servers based on Left4Dead will be a great ‘new’ source of getting the name of our University and club out to the gamers of the world!
Naturally the game hasn’t released but based on the demo I am confident it will deliver. Posting here to get other people’s input on the subject.
I agree. It’s an awesome game. I’ve played the demo as well (granted for 360) and it seems like it’d be a hit to play and have fun on. Plus it’s Valve, so I imagine we already have the know-how to set up another Valve server. The only problem I might see is policing these servers, but then again, I have no idea what’s possible with these servers or what can happen.
4 survivors vs hordes of zombies and 4 boss zombies?

That = 8 players
The game works perfectly with 4 v 4.
4 humans vs hordes of mindless zombies and 4 super zombies controlled by players. I believe the two teams are ranked by how well they do when they play the human side.
The game runs in campaigns of 5 maps. So 4 campaigns = 20 maps. After playing coop mode so much on expert I can’t imagine having smart humans controlling those zombie bosses…
I think the AI Director works excellently. For those who don’t know, the game is controlled by an AI Director which decides when things happen and where items appear. Health packs, pills, molotovs, pipe bombs, extra pistol, better weapons, and when zombies spawn / how many are all controlled by the AI Director.
It works well!
Zombie players can play the following characters:
1x Smoker (Zombie that shoots his tongue out and chokes/pulls the player to him.
1x Boomer (Fatass zombie that pukes on players or explodes and hits every player around him. If you are slimed all nearby zombies attack you and zombies spawn)
2x Hunter (These guys are fast and pounch on top of players pinning them to the ground, helpless).
1x Tank (The AI Director will randomly select a player to play the Tank during maps. It might never decide to allow a Tank to spawn in a play through though).
The Witch cannot be played but will spawn if the difficulty is > Normal. She sits and cries until disturbed, at which point she will 1 shot you. She is crazy so avoid her at all costs.
I think the game is fantastic. Whether or not one can tournament it will be seen after release. I think there will be a way though.
You may think 4 v 4 is lame but the game is designed for that kind of gameplay. It is a blast to play and feels very epic as you play.
Just set off a car alarm once and you’ll know what I mean.
this game is freaking awesome..I wish I could afford it and run it..so jealous of all the cats that were rocking it at the lan..one day I will get it..once that game is like 7 years old or something…LooT.
yeah I’ve been waiting for months for it. Now that it has almost come out though, no mula =/
I’m countin my pennies however, this is definitely my next buy.

WotLK and Left4Dead really have made me pinch pennies! Seriously… My fingers hurt I pinched them so hard… x_X.
anyone know why some people get a free demo and others don’t? it would not let me get it on my account w/o paying first,, but a friend let me play on his account and he also did not pay…?
but sofar i’v played the first level like 6 times and my first impression is that its alot of fun.
i just got off with grimmjow and this game has became my favorite…this is the first game i will ever buy right away.

It also put me in servers made of lag where everyone had 1 bar of signal. If Valve intends to push this “feature” they really need to talk to MS and Nintendo about how to run a real matchmaking service.
well remember it is a prerelease demo; it could get fixed with the final release. Plus valve is pretty good about adding fixes for that sort of thing after release.
True enough. Valve does have a bad habit of leaving bugs in and fixing them retroactively once they are whined about enough.
