Creating a constantly changing mapcycle is not good for long-term stability of the server population, especially if a good chunk of the maps on it are non-standard that the majority of players don’t know.

IMO, this should not have been announced and hyped the way it has been until it was at least to RC status. Making a big deal out of a beta service pack is stupid and just gets everyone excited that maybe Vista won’t be broke anymore. Anyone stupid enough to believe Vista suffers from anything other than PEBKAC shouldn’t be writing for computer publications.

Run the “Magic 4”. If you follow this proceedure it will remove almost any virus, trojan, or malware program.
FIRST THINGS FIRST, DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE. Don’t ask why, just do it.
Boot into safemode, double check that system restore is still disabled, open msconfig and disable ALL startups and ALL non-Microsoft services. Apply, close, don’t reboot.
Open a command prompt, go to c:\windows\prefetch and del *.*
Go into regedit, go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run and RunOnce and delete all that don’t look familiar.
Do the same for HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run and RunOnce
NOTE: Once you have removed the malware, you can turn programs back on in msconfig.
Run SDFix

When it gets back into normal mode run Combofix

If it doesn’t reboot, do it yourself and go into safemode.
It may be gone at this point, if it is don’t bother going any further.

If the rotation is such a problem why is it almost full all the time?
The last time this was tried it failed hard. If you want to repeat the past’s mistakes then by all means but don’t complain when it fails. You were told it would.
Then again, I’m sure someone else will come along a few months later and suggest it again. There will come a time when some of us older players will get tired of trying to help you if all you’re going to do is ignore the advice.
We will NOT put a new, untested map directly after a server populating map. Maybe before but I will not risk killing the server and having to wait 2 hours before a populating map comes back up. That’s stupid and directly contrary to the map testing system that’s already in place.
Btw, if you want a poll that I’ll actually pay attention to please make both options non-demeaning. It seems that my selection means I need to play on a different server…
Russka, Strike, and Fire are weird maps that only about 1/3 of the people will know. I’m hesitant to try all at once because the outcome will be a dead server.
Havana and Militia will clear the server, does it every time. Since they are more known I would be most willing to give them a try but not for more than 10 minutes and not without a more unbiased vote.
I *WILL NOT* put *ANY* CAL/CEVO exclusive map on the rotation. Very few non league players will know the map and I won’t screw the larger percent of the community in favor of the smaller percent.
For the record, I never wanted Beroth on the rotation to begin with. Since it usually runs off a large chunk of the server it probably won’t be in the next rotation.
And for clarification, SK3 stays. I personally hate it but it brings in just as many as it runs off.
Official new map discussions will be held when we discuss and vote on the new mapcycle next week.

Take everyone’s attention off global warning in liu of dying of EM radiation. Word of wisdom, WE didn’t do this and since the planet is still habitable I can hazard a guess it’s never happened before and is thus unlikely to happen in 2012.
So we lose satalites, next time maybe they’ll put some EM shielding on an object before dumping it in SPACE.
As hardcore as some of those bugs were (all is more like it) I wouldn’t count on the system, especially when I can just add the server to a favorites list.
If Liam feels up to it go for testing it. He hasn’t really been in the mood to do a whole lot of the server lately so it may have to wait until either me or Mike get access to make server changes.

Where did you get the CD and key?
XP serial keys are tied to specific install cds. Retail keys have to be used with retail CDs, volume license keys with VL CDs, and OEM keys with OEM CDs. Most pirated keys do not list what type they are and those that do are typically wrong, IE they say volume license but it’s really a retail key designed to be used with a cracked install CD.

Type “openserverbrowser” from console and you get the server list, complete with favorites and all the other community and friend based joining options that CSS and TF2 have.
It would be cool to have that but I’ve found that the majority of their new “features” to be extremely buggy, especially anything that touches the L4D autojoin system. Might want to test this before turning it on and walking away.
OEM disks have “For system builders” on them because they are designed to be pre-installed on a computer sold to someone else. They are the same as the regular Retail versions but do not include 2-3 free support incidents with Microsoft like the Retail versions do. Since most techies aren’t going to bother asking them anyway it doesn’t matter if you don’t get direct support from Microsoft.

If all you want to do is run tests and perform simple stuff it doesn’t matter what version you have. I often use Vista DVDs to do maintenance on XP installs. The only time you have to match versions up is when doing repair installs and SFC scans.
We haven’t made any changes to anything, if it’s broke you need to talk to Google because there’s likely nothing we can do.
Is it broke with other skins or just the default?
Btw, thanks for that laugh Bitey. You recommended installing Safari on Windows and then topped yourself by saying it’s better than IE. You sir just made my day.

Legal copies of Windows work so much better. They don’t, however, have the “added bonuses” that many pirates like to include with their “volume license” cracked copies. Added bonuses such as backdoors, trojans, and keyloggers.
