ParticipantGXTI haven’t you found a way to stop the double entries yet?
Ashley Faulkner
Participant1) it should state 10:45 not !0:45
2) Falcon is the Marketing Administrator not Marketing Manager
3) How do you have new business if you don’t have old business? (Not your fault Chris)
4) FORGOT my proposed amendments to the constitution again…gez they would only make your lives much easier at the lans…but hey w/e… (Again not your fault Chris)
Chris good job on the minutes, other than those small errors…you fill my shoes well.
This is NOT intended as critism for Chris aka Trackpad:
Suprised you got Sam there, first time in how long…oh wait beginning of last semester…and he is still in the execs. I think it is time to vote of no confidence. I def. have no confidence in him I guess that is because everyone else has had to pull his weight for 3 consecutive LANS. I have a history in this club of calling people out when they aren’t doing what they are supposed to do. The club has a history of not listening, but that can be changed…as it would be for the best.
NoDice, is Nicole going to attend this LAN? DO NOT LET or MAKE her take money at the door or hand out tickets or anything. IT IS NOT HER JOB, it is SAM’s job.
Oh and because you guys keep ignoring me, I’ll post my proposed amendments again.
FYI guys the constitution states:
“To plan a LAN event, these questions must be answered. The first 5 questions must be voted on. 1) When will the LAN event occur? 2)
What time will it start and run until? 3) Where will it be held? 4) What game will be played? 5) Will multiple games be played? 6) How will those games be supported? 7) Who will sponsor the LAN event? 8) What will they donate to the LAN event? 9) How many banners and flyers are needed to advertise the LAN event? 10) What type of food will be served? 11) How many of that type of food will be needed? 12) How many drinks will be needed? 13) How many people will be allowed to attend?
At the LAN event, the secretary must take attendance, and record the event in such ways to keep the history of the Club updated. It is also the duty of the Historian to make such visual history available and accessible to all members and alumni of the Club.”
Please note that the first thing that must be voted on is the date of the lan event. Please also notice that it does not say that just because you vote on a place, which you must do as well see #3, and that place is only available on 1 date that that automatically becomes the date, IT MUST ALSO BE VOTED ON, even if it is a moot point. I let is slide on the last LAN, but when you guys start skimming the constitution, even on the little things you start losing focus.
Second, the Secretary must take attendance. I would propose at the next meeting the following amendment to this section before the part about the historian,
**”It is the duty of the Treasurer to collect dues and LAN fees and to make such financial record available to the executive staff so as to ensure financial responsibility on behalf of the club.”**
This would help with the flow of the LAN, and so that Nicole doesn’t get stuck doing the treasurers’ job, as I have been in the past, even if I volunteered to do it.
You might also want to consider stating that executives are first and foremost working each LAN event, as is each Council Leader that has a game being played at the LAN. This might help alleviate the stress put on the select few that show up early and help as well as the even fewer that stay to help clean up after, not to mention the two or three that help during the event. I would put this after the statement about the Historian, I would word it,
**”In short, it is the job of every executive staff member and council leader to run and operate each LAN event. If he or she is unable to fulfill their duties, it is their duty to find a suitable replacement and to notify the executive staff of such replacement within 72 hours of the beginning of the LAN event.”**
Also note, that it takes unanimous vote among the executives and 2/3 of the active members of the club. (Which isn’t normally that hard to get.) You guys might want to actually look at the constitution, and its weird bolding issues. But other than that GOOD JOB GUYS!!

ParticipantNoDice I think you meant:
Hey Ashley do you want my Login and Password that way you can just log into my account and fix me up.
~~ But we do understand how Dice thinks so we can infer what you meant to say. You know now that I think of it, Dice actually has his own language, and we are all so fortunate to be able to understand him.
No thanks on the login and password offer, we shall leave it to the people that have the power to wield such things.

ParticipantI used to act as a grammer and spelling checker, but I lost my moderator privs so I guess NoDice and any other executive is on their own. As it appears the Grammer Police doesn’t have those priv’s eiher. Man I used to have to correct at least 1 post a day for NoDice, but of course that was back in the day…

Participantwow so now you think that adam is going to disappear, or stop paying for a vent server he has had for 4 years…w/e guys if you don’t want our continued support of the club that we helped found and start then just say so
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantIt wasn’t in the meeting minutes…

ParticipantWhy was 1.6 voted on twice as being added to the list of games to be played at the LAN?
You guys didn’t even talk about my other proposed amendments, and you just gave the position of marketing administrator unchecked power…good job guys you could have just screwed yourselves later. GOOD JOB!!!

ParticipantSo why is Sam still the treasurer when he hasn’t done one thing financially, and I haven’t seem him active on the forums in months. Why also does he feel it is not his duty to sit at the door at the LAN and collect the money? Just a question that I have had for the past two LANs.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantOk, let’s talk about marketing. Justin, I have worked in the Office of Public Relations for WCU and I know first hand what it takes and how much it costs to get the word out there to every school or newspaper just in this state alone. It is very very expensive. So unless you guys want to do a LAN just to fund mass mailings, which you don’t have the required dedication to do anyway, drop it. It is also highly presumptuous of you guys to think that putting fliers in the local high school is going to bring more students the this particular school. How many of you actually live within 1 hour of WCU? I can attest to the fact that yes a few students do come to WCU from local schools, but most come from many hundreds of miles away. Adam and I both lived 5.5 to 6 hours away. Adam has a point about high school students not looking at fliers. They don’t care, it doesn’t apply to them at that moment. However, gamers do get on MIRC and GIRC. People spam all the time, they do it to get a ringer, to get a scrim, to advertise for their new businesses and products, etc. I have seen it work first hand so don’t knock it because you don’t know how to do it, it is very simple.
In addition, there is a simple reason why Adam stopped hosting servers in his room, you can’t do it anymore. Since when do we use Aphrodite to host gaming servers? I thought that was just for the website… Having four Counter Strike servers is a waste…its all the same game with different mods. Even I know that and I don’t play the game.
Kuros, you are on the right track. Just keep your eyes open and don’t let others push you around. You seem to understand the gaming club mission, where as it is doubtful that others do.
FYI, the constitution that is linked from the homepage is outdated, as in two semesters old. I attached the updated constitution to a thread I believe called constitution in the exec forums. If you do not update it, then some people’s positions do not exist and thus they lose authority. I would suggest that someone read the constitution aloud at a meeting, because even though I know I have tried it in the past and gotten promises that people would read it, it is very apparent that only two to three people in this club have and I am included in that number.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantDerrick why is Adam in your sig?
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantI took over 100 pictures of each and every lan I have been too, however the first 1 I gave my only copy of them to tyler, who did put them up on his website, however, i never got the pictures back, adam and I did steal them off of his website and put them on our old site. Though I promise if we ever get them back I will make a copy. I do have a copy of all of my pictures for the last 6.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantDoes anybody have the spring 2005 LAN pictures, they were up on the old website,…
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantOnly because I wrote him into the constitution to do it, and at the time, the first time, we did not have anyone currently in the gaming club that knew enough or that we trusted enough to hand the server(s) over to. And we won’t go into the second time, but I will surfice it to say that someone was being stingy with privileges.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantI love reading all these comments. You guys have great ideas, the problem is until you actually plan for and execute a LAN event, that is all you have just ideas. You really have no clue as to how much time and preparation go into each and every one of our LAN events.
BTW how many people were actually supposed to bring their consoles and tv’s? I know at the one in December lots of people said that they would bring theirs and they didn’t which is why we only had a limited number, I suppose that is why we had a limited number this time. I do think that the executives planned to have more consoles and tv’s because they had extra space setup for them.
And as NoDice said, having more than one day for LAN’s is not feasible at this time, nor is it supported by the constitution or staff. I hand it to the executive staff and advisors because they put at least 7-8 weeks of nothing but getting everything ready for the LAN events, which is why we have two and only two each semester.
I am sorry that consoles felt like they got cut short, that is an issue for your council leader, Akuzan.
Oh, why is CS1.6 getting cut in favor of CS:S…more people signed up to play CS1.6? Just a question.
How many people here have attended all 7 LAN events that the WCU Gaming Club has hosted? I know NoDice, Adambomb, NukeDude, and myself have, but I was just wondering how mnay others had as well.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantIf your name isn’t on the list then you came after 12am…Otherwise you owe us money.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantAdam and I drove from Angier, NC to come to this LAN, and it was Awesome!
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantThe name is Ashley Britt not Faulkner, at least not yet. And it was no problem at all.

Ashley Faulkner
Participantno it was not good enough…lol. That is why I posted my version, which is far greater than adams. Check in the Exec–>Constitution thread.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantYea I’d say save most of the pizza’s for dinner and just a few for lunch…seeing how more people will be around for dinner and those that show up at lunch time might have just ate before coming to the LAN at 12.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantFYI Havoc is Keith Kelly, our old UT2K4 Council Leader…Keith hope you have been practicing, sounds like you might actually have some competition this time

Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantOr just put UT2K4 and save room for that addition of another game on the flier…The Fliers look Great Michael!
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantPer the constitution you guys missed some things:
“To plan a LAN event, these questions must be answered. The first 5 questions must be voted on.
When will the LAN event occur?
What time will it start and run until?
Where will it be held?
What game will be played?
Will multiple games be played?
How will those games be supported?
Who will sponsor the LAN event?
What will they donate to the LAN event?
How many banners and flyers are needed to advertise the LAN event?
What type of food will be served?
How many of that type of food will be needed?
How many drinks will be needed?
How many people will be allowed to attend?” (WCU Gaming Club Constitution, 2006)
Granted the place was voted on at the last meeting, and the date was forced, it is still a good idea to follow protocol and vote them in anyway. Good job on the minutes!
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantIf you are really interested in team based tourneys, you should check out Appalachian State University. The last one they did in the fall was like that. However, as GXTI stated in his reply we, at WCU, are here to support the University and its students. The founders of the WCU Gaming club did not favor the layout of a team-based LAN, which is why we have never required nor allowed teams at our LANS.
We do charge a small nominal fee to attend-$5 which as LordKuros mentioned does pay for the bountiful food and drink in which you will be supplied.
As our LANS are BYOC, bring your own computer, many games will be played. We limit the actual tournaments to those inwhich there is sufficient interest. However, many games are played.
At our last LAN, we had a Nintendo Wii, X-Box 360, Guitar Hero, and DDR, as well as many PC games. We only had 4 tournaments out of those. One was on the X-box 360-Halo 2 and Gears of War, and the other 2 were PC-CS 1.6 and Q3. Unless I am mistaken.
We are growing in numbers with each LAN we do, however I believe that it will still take some time for us to reach 1000. Again we cater to our students first and foremost. The mission of the WCU gaming club is to bring more students to WCU. We are accomplishing this goal.
I thank you for your interest in our upcoming LAN, welcome you to attend, and encourage you to continue to play on our servers.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantYou do realize that Dell owns Alienware… glad your happy with your laptop purchase.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantWhen is the first meeting? and at what time? Thanks. Just need more information.
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantYou guys are complete idiots sometimes, but you all still make me laugh…got to love the gaming club execs!!
Ashley Faulkner
ParticipantJust figured I would attach the lan event attendance record + those that paid their $10 dues.
