ParticipantI think you’re doing it wrong. Stuff like that goes here:
MasterP
ParticipantAssuming they come. It’s about $20-30 in gas both ways plus lodging and food. Our last big showing at AppLAN wasn’t worth the cost, even for those who won TF2.
MasterP
ParticipantMake sure you make them discrete. Annoying ads are annoying.

maybe the only solution is to just allow it so its fair for everyone, or 1-3 seconds of (no hit) thoese are the only 2 ways to do this,,, or take the map off and have everyone hate usIf SK is such a problem we could just remove that rule for SK. I am not prepared to give change the balance and gameplay of the map by giving invulnerability as no one would leave the spawn anyway. Why would anyone want to be in the open at the end of the 3 seconds?
MasterP
ParticipantIt takes me about 5-6 seconds to get to the top and I absolutely suck at air strafing. I don’t think protection is the answer to the SK problem.

- keep the money you would get off a winning team if you are team-swapped after round
- protect people from being shot who are team-swapped
- spawn protection 3 seconds for scoutzknivez
- change the default team-swap skin on t to anything else but that all-white one that sticks out so bad
I’ll explain these one by one.
The money is something would have to be hard-coded into the plugin. As Liam is busy with other things atm I can’t ask him to set something that isn’t necessarily broke as a high priority for fixing. I will toss it on his todo list but there’s no telling when or if it can be fixed as it would require coding extra checks into the teambalancer and sourcemod.
Protection is something I pushed for a while back and was pretty much kicked in the balls over. I personally think it would be nice but the server doesn’t want it.
A three second protection on SK3 would give enough time for people to get all the way to the top or in the other team’s spawn before they could be shot. As bad as being blocked in is, it would be worse if half the people playing were in high camping spots before immunity ended. A no-block mod was tried before and failed epicly.
Team-swap skin? I think this is something on your end because when people are team-swapped they use the same skin until they respawn with the correct skin. Definately nothing “all-white”.

if the dload time is staying pretty long, it might be worth it to use a different map in that slot.If the download time is long it’s because your internet sucks. The server our maps are on can (and usually does) send at 1+MB/sec to off-campus clients if they can go that fast. Maybe 1.6 limits the download speed, in which case you may want to look at server modules to fix it.
If the map is good but large, don’t worry about it.

Participant24/7 anything gets old, fast, and really doesn’t populate any better than a good rotation.

but it would be a pain maintaining it, imo.Which is why this isn’t being done. It’s a pain going through the LAN playerlist and linking their forum accounts to LAN registration info. I’ve had to do similar things with other forums and trust me, it’s not something we want to waste Liam’s time doing.
Notice Dice, I already commented that we should send mass email through the forum system. Also, we advertised the forums at the first meeting but heavily stressed registering for Catamount Connections. What harm could it do to send it there too? There’s bound to be a handful that are registered there and not here.

well i must say so myself majicals penguiens 24/7 pl map server was uber popularthats all i’m saying on this subject,, i’v already voice how to make it win,, i’m not going to waist my time helping out again with a server thats just going to be taken down.
All you proved with that was that it didn’t matter what rotation we used so long as we had the 5-6 it took to get it started. It really doesn’t matter what you do with the rotation but people will not join an empty server.

however, its based on WCU system and it can go down at any time… if we did it through our website.. we will alsways have it. (also it will be to the persons personal email they check,, the catamount email system is not preferred by a number of people,, so they might not ever check it.) Also the catamount email went into my spam box on 100% default settings (as i never use that account)The Catamount Connections is completely hosted and maintained off campus by a third party and has nothing to do with WCU other than we have a school account there. You can also set a different email in the CC, right now it sends to my IEEE. As for junkmail, if it goes to the default catamount mail it shouldn’t go into your spam folder as I think they set a global policy for it on the mail server.

will that method work for everybody?Might also try sending a mass email through the forums.

as long as people are registered on Catamount Connections we can send out mass emails. I sent one an hour or so ago about the LAN. So, we can send out reminders about the meetings
I didn’t get one.
EDIT: Nevermind, just got it.

ParticipantI don’t have the time but would be happy to help any way I can. TF2 is extremely hard to get going but like I’ve said before, if you can get 5-6 in there it should cap the rest of the way.
Mike should also be able to help as he had it populated several nights during the summer.
If you can get Dice off his goldrush high he also has some experience with it.

so no one thinks we should email remind ppl?Email reminders are always a good idea and the club website should let us do it. For that to work we need everyone to register for it though and I doubt if they did. We could always ask for emails when signing into the LAN.
As for the rest, I misunderstood your EnGliSh.

Quick question, why is Train 15 min?? lol it’s a great map. it’s actually fairly evenly sided, i know i used to not think that but now i do!
Because I had to force it down the server’s throat to get it back. No one wanted it so it was removed and then people started whining about it not being there so I added it back on the “probation” 15 minute. Next time I work up a rotation I’ll extend it to normal time since everyone seems to like it this month.

also, take D5 out of the rotation (yahoo if you say one word about this i’m coming to aussie land and shooting all the kangaroos around your college), i know of a handful ( yes, handful) of people who actually enjoy playing it. it’s a pointless map, like i can see SK3 being fun cuz of low grav and it’s a weapon that you don’t use often but D5 just makes me sad cuz it’s a big box and does nothing for you
D5 was kept on extremely reduced time for posterity, it should already be 10-15 mintes. The next rotation will have a “funner” config for it. Such as low-gravity, knives only which people seem to really enjoy.

dont wont “all 9000 wcu students” i meant all “students of the club”when have we ever had a meeting right after a lan? hell we have only had meeting lately to pick lan games and nominate people.

i’ve never seen a pdf file that big…Some of the detailed Battletech (Mechwarrior) galactic maps are about that same size.

ParticipantWe can send an email to the “all students” list but the gaming club would probably lose all school support for doing it. Mike has the best idea.

ParticipantJust so it’s said, passing out lots of reserved slots when the server is still in steady linear growth is a bad idea. You’ll reach the point where the regulars will start complaining about getting kicked all the time for reserved slots at which point you get to choose between running off new players or *edited*ing off old ones by cutting back on the reserved slots. Better to avoid that decision if you can. Unless of course Liam is setting those slots to be for reserved only and it doesn’t kick anyone for them, in which case there are no consequences except loads of win. (Not sure how CS16 mods do reserved)
If it were me I would set reserved to admins only and set it to 3. That way you know admins can get on to do their job and it still encourages those who are regulars to come here to be active and get admin. As a jumpstart you can do like they did with TF2 and lower the requirements for admins to get the server started (for a very limited time and handpicked people only).

Actually, Guitar Hero hasn’t been in every LAN since we started it. Also, Guitar Hero is the only console tournament to ever get sponsored. And my point isn’t that we seemingly vote different games for each LAN, is that we constantly try to bring up new games EVERY meeting to try out. Your last “new” game to get introduced to the list was Call of Duty 4. PC plays mostly FPS’s. I don’t understand why there can’t be an RTS, some sort of fighter, a strategy game, a puzzle game, or whatever new for the PC list. All I’ve seen for the PC list are the same games just recycled over and over. Day of Defeat, UT2K4, Quake 3, Call of Duty 4, CSS, CS 1.6, and TF2. There was ONE Starcraft tournament and that was because a CONSOLE person pushed for it and ran it.We have tried RTS ever since I’ve been in the club and it never works. There’s always one or two REALLY good people and it’s a major turn off to everyone else. For example, the Starcraft you refer to was won by the guy who ran it and when it was played at the following LAN it had like 4 people play. We can’t be expected to stick with tournaments that fail.
There aren’t any good fighter or puzzle games for PC. Unlike the consoles, they don’t release a zillion games per year for PC, we get maybe 3 good games per year and out of those maybe 1 is decent enough for tournament play, maybe. Then everyone who plays it has to have their own copy, instead of getting 4 players for a single $50 purchase.
Btw, if you know of any *good* fighting games for PC feel free to let us know. I can’t think of a single one since they quit making Mortal Combats for the PC.

There’s an easy explanation why the console community has grown so much faster than the PC side.Because consoles are 1/4 the price and the university pushes freshmen parents hard to get university backed PCs that can’t play games. Also, remember we were here before you were and were hovering around a peak about the time consoles started so comparisons of growth speed isn’t really that fair.
