Every time i try to join WCU i get in, but then after maybe a round and a half or so i get an error that says i was unable to connect to the VAC server, i clicked on the troubleshooting page that the error message gave me, but everytime i clicked it i got a problem loading page error. I also had one of my friends try to go in after me and he received the same message as i did. Is anybody else having these same problems, and does anybody know an alternative site that could help me?Your ports are blocked on your router. Go open em.

The current server is a dual proc dual core opteron (opterons’s have up to 4 cores with their 2000 model line) 250 2.4ghz with 6 147gb 15k RPM SAS drives in a RAID 5 config for “security from failure” without sacrificing performance. IT’s not going to make the concessions like they have with the current system. So someone will have to plug it up in their room. Now the campus external firewall will block all traffic that starts from off-campus and tries to access it. IT has also made several policy changes on the packetshaper to prioritize the game traffic from the current server. Without those policies, the traffic will get absorbed in the general ResNet traffic.
IT’s kicking you off the box? They havn’t said anything like that. Sounds to me like they gave you a way to access it through an administrator who won’t try and take down the system for fun and you don’t like it. Not to mention that this web site is run on another server that IT gave you. Considering the fact that the game club was never going to have remote access to the server when they started, I think IT’s been awful nice to you.
Not really interested in getting into an argument with you or anyone else but just because you pulled the specs off of HP’s website doesn’t mean thats what is in the box running. That server has a pair of “single core” opterons and a lot of mis-matched memory. So far as the “spindle” count, RAID 5 requires a minimum of 3 drives and if I’m not mistaken, thats what that box is running. RAID 5 has nothing over RAID 1 except it uses two of the three and stripes them and keeps a duplicate of the info on the 3rd drive for security. Which, while may be a bit faster and more efficient doesn’t make it any safer.
So who are you? You seemed to have made an account simply to come on here and tell us what we “shouldn’t” do. So own up or not. Without any actual knowledge of who you are, why should your advice be taken into any consideration?

The new server is much more powerful than the old on a number of levels. CPU, Memory, and HDD. The CPU’s are faster, more efficient, and have 4 cores each. The memory is 4gb of registered ecc ddr2. The drives are going to be setup in a RAID 1 config for security from failure.
The old box was a dual opteron machine with 16gb of ddr ram. Opterons have a single core and 512kb/1mb l2 cache. The Intel Xeon chips are 4 core and 4mb of l2 cache.
DDR2 is also much faster than DDR memory.
Add into the equation that ITS is kicking WCU Gaming off of their current box and thats a pretty good reason to buy a new server.
On a happy note, we’ve collected $1785.67 and we need around $1900.00-$2000.00.

Also, is yoda dentist not an admin on the server? I’m pretty sure he is so i’m going to say that he needs his admin removed since he refused to spec or ban this guy. FFS on the mill pic the WCUTB told everyone that no balancing was necessary.ITS locked the gaming club out of Tron. Therefor there is no way to update the plugin. If we unload it, it crashes the server. If the server crashes, it may not come back up.
ITS has said they’ll update it at some point. It’s waiting on them though.
Best thing to do for now is just move people around as well as you can.

Come on everyone! We are shooting for $1800.00 and we currently have $1045.83! Help the gaming club get its new server. This will allow us to run TF2, CS:S, CS1.6, etc, all with better registry and faster speed on the server side!
Not to mention, we are loosing the server, so if we dont get this, we dont get to play!

But if you record the kills/deaths throughout the game then people that d/c and rejoin for money or whatever won’t mess up the TB, Also you can get a better reading of trends and such. With it recording the information from both teams and stacking that info up side by side in a list, it might be able to make better decisions and avoid getting swaphappy with one or two players.
Just talkin so if this is just poo poo, someone crap on me and tell me not to dabble in comp stuff.
Not worth it. Some people are better on some maps than they are on the other.
D/C and rejoining for cash will get you a 20 minute ban now so dont do it.
