Kuros
ParticipantHere it is, after all the trash talking that’s gone down at AppState, they are finally moaning their cry of death. I offer them advice and they laugh in my face, all while our server is full and theirs has 4 people. So I say after that, fine…you won’t want my help you can just curl up and die.
Thread link for proof (my post is on page 3):

ParticipantKuros, I believe that AppState and WCU shouldn’t be rivals, but rather partners in something bigger. Perhaps an organization of some sort, a joint community. Most of the players are in involved in both communities to a degree. Why not join them together officially somehow? I’m not sure how they can be networked together, or what can be done, other than a website that they both use. Just a thought!
July 6, 2007 at 5:17 pm #23134Brian
ParticipantI dunno, what I seem to gather from the topic i just read over at app yall don’t seem to be able to compromise nor do yall have admins who are decisive enough in fixing stuff.
Really though I think Kuros is dead on about the strength of wcu’s servers. We are really strict with our admins and they keep the servers running smooth and that allows the community to thrive.
July 6, 2007 at 5:27 pm #23135Brian
ParticipantThinking about it though, I’m apprehensive about having closer ties, aye, ideally it would be great if everything worked out but yall just dont seem to have yalls *edited* together. I wouldn’t be against exploring the subject more though.
July 6, 2007 at 5:29 pm #23136red
ParticipantI can’t say that I agree 100%. WCU has become a great server, and very successful, no doubt. But as far as the strict leashes on admins, I really don’t see a noticable difference between the two servers. They are similar, if not better at AppState. I only say this because I have been on when completely unacceptable things are being said with no admin presence. I’m not taking anything away from WCU and it’s admins and community. They do a great job for the most part. The real strength I see at WCU is the senior admins heavy involvement and commitment to improving the server. This is where App fails at.

ParticipantI just read the Why cs is dying thread by GRK, he is dead *edited*ing on and yall are laying into him like he is some kind of smuck. Why do they just blow him off when he seems to be so very right? Are they dumb or do they hate having a popular server?
July 6, 2007 at 7:39 pm #23141Ex
Participantwell kuros put simple if they donnt want any help f*** em then there servers can stay empty while ours stay fulll it isnt hurting wcu that they cannt keep people in there servers
July 6, 2007 at 8:26 pm #23144Fascist Flakes (Jagr)
ParticipantIs backup requested and the fire need to be brought? *strikes a match*

App is crying that their server is dying to lack of support and since EVERYone at App is die hard on 1.6, they refuse to believe any of GRK’s posts about why 1.6 is dying. You’ll notice that every single one of their posts is a complete wannabe flame to him and never actually refute anything he says about 1.6. Lol immaturity.
July 6, 2007 at 8:31 pm #23146Kuros
ParticipantWhile I am not against AppState, they are going to need an executive staff that’s strong and decisive. I’m not partnering with them as is and I’m not partnering with them until that retard Pengu is gone.

ParticipantWCU we have no problems with your club or your server. remember that the so called “trash talking” is coming from people that do no represent ASU or the Gaming Club at ASU. The founders of the ASU Gaming Club and WCU Gaming Club are friends and it was our goal to continue that friendship. There may be a little friendly competition because we are historically rival universities.. but that is all. Please disregard whatever our “regs” say that is negative. If anything we would like to create a partnership to promote gaming like red was alluding to..
yes our server has died because our redirecting servers were turned off some months ago and it gradually got worse. I am setting up new ones to hopefully repopulate our server.

Participanthaha so you guys were relying on decieving people into thinking they were going into a diff server pfft
nah jk but from what i’ve seen in app state seems like a good server just that some of the regs seem to be jerkawfs

ParticipantWCU and APP will never be together. Not until Pengu loses admin in APP and is not considered a respresentative anymore. Pengu is a funny kid and I like playing with him, but while in the APP server if somebody mentions WCU he slams them. Then he says WCU’s server sucks. Truthfully while playing, WCU and APP have the exact same feel to me, the only difference is the time between map switching where WCU’s is shorter. Also red used to have a phase of joining app and instantly doing a repeated vote of awp_map until people voted yes, but that ended. That’s why I stopped playing in app for a while lol
I don’t know what Pengu has against WCU admins, but he slams the admins harder than the server. I mean everybody is a nerd so I don’t know what he’s all angry and surprised about? As long as this *edited* talking from somebody who is supposedly a representative of the APP server continues I doubt anything will be resolved.
I think it’d be neat if your two clubs combined to have one large LAN rather than two separate tournaments. Think of all of the sponsors that each community receives. Then imagine what you can accomplish with nearly 80% growth for an event. More companies would offer more things for more prizes.
Just something to think about, I’m not close to you guys at all so this is all just me ranting and whoring the forums like gxti told me not to do.
July 9, 2007 at 8:09 pm #23261red
ParticipantPengu is a nobody in the App community ( I’m not important either )… you guys act like he is someone of high authority. He does not and will not ever represent AppState and the gaming club. Basically his word doesn’t mean anything. I’ve seen admins from WCU bash AppState as well. There is an obvious rivalry.
And, no, i’ve never put up repeated map votes until it won.

ParticipantI agree with nearly everyhting said here.
The idea is to have FUN in the server. this brings people back. I remember 3-4 years ago app was “the” server think i saw it was top 10 east cost. all their players were extremely good. I can remember waiting 20 minutes just to join the server and then get kicked 2 maps later for a slot reservation. It was hands down a fun server to play on. does anyone remember /dukes o_0
now i dont know all the details behind how app is running their server now, as i rarely get to play anymore. but i have noticed several app regulars on our server within the past few months now. One thing i do know is that here at WCU our server is here for the students. and not the regular online gamer. Thus creating a phun community.
Also as a side note, a few weeks ago our 1.6 server was nearly dead, until adambomb got our redirects back up.. this is deffently a big plus on getting a full server.
PS: we are not here to start wars with other gaming communities, just stating what we beleave holds our server strong, which is the community.
PSS: does SpLit play our servers ever?

Participantsplit frequently plays on WCU and APP servers, just under different nicknames. why he does that– i couldn’t tell you.

Participantyeah, i havent seen SpLit paly his name in what… 2 years now?
August 3, 2007 at 3:37 pm #24128JackHammer
Participanti think that everyone has good ideas but its jut the fact that WCU is the place to be, i was a heavy regular at app until reg starting dropping fast and regulars started switching here as i did i think that app has lived out its reign as top and now WCU is taking over don’t get me wrong i love app but its turn is up, its a steady cycle no server can last for ever, maybe soon it will build again but until then i promise u the regulars will be at WCU as i am everyday

Participantall i have to say is app and western are rival schools, so i don’t think anyone is going to want them to work together or network – not anyone who actually goes to wcu.
seeing the demise of the appstate cs server actually warms my heart and makes kittens sing all across the western nc mountains.

wrong, the majority of both clubs (higher ups) enjoy working together. also 1 of our 3 founder run both servers
the app guys even invited us to their afterparty gave us a place to sleep and recover the next morning. but from as far as i know all other school clubs and sports we beat each other with spiked bats

ParticipantJealously drives greed and that is why they think less of us. Guys we are gaming clubs, but we are completely different than them in many ways of operation.
We learn from technical issues from them. Other than that there is really only small things that we have in common.
August 21, 2007 at 2:22 pm #25019NameRemoved
ParticipantAdam don’t be like that haha
Anyways, as JB already said, these “insults” and “jealousy” are coming from people who don’t officially represent the server and don’t even live in North Carolina or go to App. JB and myself are basically phased out as the people in charge of the club and the server. The new leaders are just beginning classes today and the first meeting is soon, so I imagine there will be some changes in the near future.

Now from a personal perspective and an alumnus non-official candid reply, I’ll try to instill a little bit of the App view. I’m sure the Western guys will just laugh some of this off as “typical Appy *edited*”, but it needs to be said nonetheless.
We are not jealous of you in the least. From a school standpoint we have no reason to be (two National Championships, better academics, better facilities, better campus, better location, etc). From a gaming club standpoint we have no reason to be. That is unless you consider it jealousy that we want to be funded by residence life, as you are. Even then, our financial situation is comparable to yours aside from the server donation you got from IT (which seems to have been more than a headache than it was worth?)
Dice mentioned this briefly, but I’d like to elaborate. In the beginning our clubs helped one another, and continued to do so until your new president was elected. The leaders from both schools were decent friends, and still are, and they helped each other because we were both experiencing similar problems and predicaments. No, it’s not that one club copied another, nor is it that one club magically manifested itself into something superior. Both clubs are where they are today because of cooperation and communication. So, no Adam, technical issues are not the only thing we have in common and are not the only thing you have learned from us, and vice-versa. We have traded sponsor contacts, we have learned what works for setup, we have learned what tournaments attract the most, we have learned how to build support within the campus community, among other things.
As for the cs server, I think the underlying problem is that we are both competing for an ever-dwindling pool of 1.6 players. Ultimately, even if Western helped the App cs server (what would you even do to help??), the twilight is near and I do believe it is time to move on to new games. Furthermore, I find it funny and a sign of the times (ie that I’m old) when the new president says things that word for word describe the experience on the App server for upwards of 3 years:
“I firmly believe that WCU’s secret to success is the community that we strive to create. We want people to feel welcome in our server with strictly enforced rules and admins on at all times to enforce them so that gameplay is both smooth and always fun. I think that the smooth gameplay and mainly the community is what has made and continues to make WCU a more successful server.”
When the new president of the western gaming club doesn’t even know what the history between the two clubs has been and considers a statement of condescension to be his contribution to the discussion, I think the channels of communication need to be reopened. Kuros, you really should get in touch with the new President of ASUGC and see what can be done. That is, unless you want to continue being obstinate and thinking you will never need any assistance. The previous leaders did a fairly decent job of keeping those channels open, but I think we did fail when it came to introducing the new leaders to one another. I apologize for not keeping you in touch with the new people.
I will not be around to reply to this since I am heading to France for a while. Although I think there are some valid points, do not take this as anything more than one perspective on a situation that honestly should NOT even be a situation. Remember that saying, “Don’t make mountains out of molehills” ? Yeah..don’t.
