I think the Historian this year is doing a really good job. Aside from being absent from the last LAN (not his fault) he has an awesome camera and a new flash he wants to use at the next LAN :)

By the way, if you guys are worried about being anonymous, get behind a proxy (http://www.samair.ru/proxy/) and change your writing style. Everything is tracked by IP here (proxy takes care of that). Changing your writing style would be pretty easy too; for example nobody would recognize a NoDice post if he ran it through a spell checker :)

There will be a meeting soon to discuss the next LAN. Most/all of this will be talked about there.

In light of our club’s recent financial woes, I’d have to say that it would be irresponsible for the club money to fund travel expenses for individual people. I think the club’s money can be better spent elsewhere, but that discussion is better suited for another time/place.

Passing a collection where people can put money towards travel expenses for people could certainly help, but I think the money that this club budgets around should be spent elsewhere.

I don’t know how serious this discussion is, but here are my thoughts.

Club money funding trips for people to come is out of the question. However, I’d love to see new people at our LANs especially people we know and play with so I’d say passing around a hat to collect money at a meeting is a cool idea.

What is this concept of “hoarding money”? Do you people not know how our economic system works?

Lets say I spend $100,000 on a new car. For most, thats a lot of money. Lets think where that money goes, shall we? The dealership gets some of that 100k, employing people who work there so they can feed their kids. Part of it goes to the automaker, who employs thousands of people. People who work for them include accountants, executives, factory workers, etc. – many many people. So in effect, you are “spreading your wealth” to at least dozens, if not thousands of people in exchange for real goods and services. Even if they “sit” on their money and put it in a bank, that bank turns the money around and lends it out to a good amount of impoverished people, so they can get that leg up that they desperately need. For those of you who think people who become rich just sit on their money and it ends there should take an economics class. Forcefully taking money from citizens’ pockets and putting it places they have no control over is one of the most asinine ideas humanity has ever come up with.

    Just a quick bump here…

At the meeting there were quite a few people who stepped up and said they’d bring their camera and take pictures. Anyone can take them, even people that didn’t come to the meeting. Just a reminder to make sure there are pictures of people getting prizes and pictures of groups playing games.

To keep me from playing middleman, when you get your pictures off your camera let Liam know through a PM and he will tell you how to get them to him for our website. Don’t wait more than a day or two to get those pictures off!

    Thanks in advance guys

Agreed. This also means voting on games that we ourselves might not play, but ultimately will bring in more people.

We cannot speak for people that don’t come to the meetings that may play at the LAN. Only vote for games you will play, and we will not end up in this mess. Noone can be the judge of people that potentially come to the LANs, so stop trying. If you believe we need a different perspective on game selection, we need more people to come to our meetings – not trying to vote what you think they want.

Here’s a potential solution: What if we changed the way games are voted on? At general meetings, we’ll vote on PC tournies. If there is some sort of problem with the choices, the presidet will make an executive decision to change it. Later, the console people will hold a console meeting and vote for console tournies. Any problems will result in the console president making an executive decision. Later still, representatives from both sides of the club will get together and hammer out a schedule. Everybody’s happy.

Just getting the ball rolling. Any thoughts?

Good luck getting that through the constitution. That gives the president too much power. Any resolutions to problems should be voted on, at meetings. Do not give too much power to any one person.

    Diplomatic response:

Both sides make valid arguments. The console people have a point in that they know more about which games are better suited for console tournaments. The PC people have a point in that the rules set up by the constitution should be respected. Some compromises may be in order.

    Honest response:

You all sound like a bunch of whiny babies. Seriously. Is any of this actually all that important? It’s a video game club! It’s not worth getting your *edited*s tied in a knot over! No wonder the club is getting a reputation for infighting. Now, compromise or something so I can finally make a thread that dosen’t end up locked.

This is very close to my opinion on the matter as well. I suggest a compromise, to be used at the next meeting. These arguments on the forums get nowhere; the meetings are when things get voted on and done, as per our constitution.

If we are holding a vote for games played at a LAN, only vote for things you WILL PLAY. This means if you think a game is pretty cool but you probably won’t get a chance to play it at the LAN, dont vote for it. This goes for both PC and Console games.

There is no best way to enforce this, so we just need to play on the honor system. I try to believe we are all adults here. People can generally identify straight console or PC gamers at a meeting. Nobody cares who started what. Just grow up, move on, and vote intelligently next time. We need to keep everything that was voted at the last meeting because it was official, and take measures to get more attendance at future meetings.

I just spent about 1 1/2 hours working on a poster for the LAN event when Photoshop crashed. I hadn’t saved because I wasn’t done. Oh, well. *edited* it. I’m *edited*ed now. It probably would have been too late of a submission to print anyway.
