SpectatorI should do some digging, gots some historical records on here somewhere where I had to deal with this same issue. It comes up a lot, and really there is no perfect answer. Really it just takes a community effort, for everyone to kind of pull together and be of good cheer, which is appealing to new guests, and therefore population will grow.

update… US Air Force said no (medical). Still looking into other branches, still no news from the Marines, though the unofficial word from the Army is that the medical reason the Air Force cited for turning me down is actually an exception saying I am qualified with them. I’ve not had much chance yet to talk to the other branches
yeah, so did some digging. Until recent revisions, what I have was indeed specifically enumerated in their docs. It is no longer specifically enumerated, either as a qualifier or disqualifier.
In another part of this digging, stumbled across other charts. Apparently lil’ Falcy may need to go on some sort of beer and chips diet, if they move the weight requirements around any.
In further news… Talkin to the Nat’l Guard, that guy said maybe but the jury’s still out on that. It’s taken enough time to suggest that it is either buried in a massive pile of requests for examination (the papers to request to go visit the people that are the “gatekeepers”), or that mine is undergoing extensive review and scrutiny. mebbe third time’s a charm.
however, this process is taking much longer than I expected, so I’m starting to make contingency plans for next semester. I could possibly see myself staying around locally for a bit.
If this one falls through, I’ll set out to get official requests in with everyone left (Navy, Army, Coast Guard), so I can know for sure if I’ve checked all my options, though.

Spectatorthere’s a way to do this if you only need into your XP partition (it will allow read/write access to 7/vista partitions, but not boot them until you redo their bootloaders)
requirements:
winXP CD
take out all drives but XP drive, just to reduce confusion
boot to the winXP cd, and go to the recovery console.
2 commands you need to run, once you log in (should hopefully be able to log into the XP system on your drive, if not, you could be in trouble):
1 – `fixmbr`
2 – `fixboot`
should have XP booting again. I’ve done this before several times when purging Vista from my hard drive. I think this is how it works

KJV is the way 2 be
There’s definitely a church I drive by every day that would agree with that. I think this weekend they intend to have a bonfire fueled by any other translation. I find their logic amusing (they would probably be so confused that they would throw books transcribed verbatim in the original language in). Don’t personally agree with their views, though.

I still love my Logitech USB to be honest, though the older models can be a bit pinchy on the head/ears.
I can second that. also, depending on how you qualify “broke”, I had a pair of some variety of the same style headphones (over the ear), and the mic broke off when I kinda sat on them… Tape fixed it in a jiffy.

SpectatorGo hardcore on this. DIY keyboard. I challenge you.

SpectatorIf ya give me about a week, I can probably chat back and forth over forum PM or similar media to help you out. In some sense, it should be just like legos, and if the stuff fits, then it goes there. Especially for hardware more recent than 2000. Still, I could help out. By the way, if yer planning a “Frankenstein’s Monster” rig for the LAN, then I’d say heck with it, bring the thing up and I can meet ya around noon and have it together in a jiffy, but I’d have to make sure that you gots enough parts to pull it off. And thermal paste.
Falcon
SpectatorFalcon might as well. Depends on just how much work I have both before and after the LAN. If the ratio is heavier towards work before it, then I’ll definitely be there, to shake off the funk of being drowned in homework for the last month-ish. If I have work due afterwards, well, my obligation as a student comes first. But I’d definitely like to show up, even if I have to bring my own switch and LAN up some cs:source as freeplay. But this time I legitimately have a capable system, a while back I was able to grab a gfx card crazy cheap on clearance. So maybe some more games as well.
Just a warning, I’ll have been on a >1 year break from decent competitive gaming, so I’ll be terrible, but I’ll give it my darndest.

lol. just preliminary guesses, based on they searched through a field manual on the subject of disqualifiers, and there my thing was, I think the wording went something to the tune ofwithout <this>, someone is disqualified, unless they have <this> because of <my condition>
(paraphrasing, of course)
but anywho, more updates, the Marine Corps says no too… Army’s still looking, and I’ve not talked yet to Navy / Coast Guard. barely talked to National Guard, talking to them soon about more.
I can hire you as a body guard, you get more freedom, but you arn’t getting paid in money, only beer.
if I find that this “beer” is sufficient, and there is enough that I could barter some for chips to accompany said beer, then you may have a tempting offer.
But further update, still too early to be sure about anything, but there just might be something to the National Guard. Talked to the recruiter, and things be looking somewhat more optimistic than I was expecting they might.

Spectatorabout the mention of an IR blaster:
another consideration, if you’re using a service with a set top box. This is pretty old technology I’m talking about, like 5 years or so out of date at least, but some boxes that I am familiar with used some sort of port (typically DB-9 serial or some modification thereof) to connect to another source such that it could control things. Some newer boxes may use USB for this. Pretty much it would send the same information a remote would over the lines direct to the box, and it was useful for a few things. Mostly changing the channel, based on an automated VCR schedule, or to be used by media-capable PCs.
also, hypothetically the IR blaster should be able to transmit any and every signal your remote could, since (I think) it’s a computer-controlled IR emitter (remote controls emit IR pulses, don’t want to get too technical on you, but anyway). You’d pretty much just have to set it up somewhere you could regularly use a remote control, and hope (like a universal remote) that it has the right instructions to operate your box.

SpectatorTaking this random opportunity to use my “alumni” status to second that, about the alumni are here for guidance, and it should be the students filling duties if possible
Falcon
Spectatorjust a repeat suggestion – it got shot down in spectacular fashion at least once, but just in case times have changed and there may be some interest –
Sometimes (and perhaps now much more than previously) a free-to-download free-to-play game could have some merit. America’s Army 3 is (to my knowledge) free both as a steam game and as a stand-alone game. And it’s based on the Unreal 3 engine. This may or may not draw some interest.
Unfortunately, I can’t play due to no gaming-grade computer tied into an internet connection, so let the rest of the Club evaluate this suggestion.

Spectatorand latest summary – I’m going to talk to the other branches to make sure this is my best option. I hope to be signing papers within a matter of weeks.
Falcon
SpectatorSo, yeah. I’m thinking I want to go all the way for pilot. I’ll do some more digging around and make sure I know of the greatest likelihood of how I could get there, and make plans for what happens if I don’t meet qualifications, and all that. (Still considering the possibility of other branches as well, they got pilots too.) That’s a pretty fair summary of any updates on this.

Falcon…I just moved out of my place that was two minutes from biltmore village and 2 seconds from Hendersonville Rd….craaap dude… still, if you be in the area, I plan to for another few weeks at least… I’m prolly walking away from that job on Hendersonville road to get seriously caught up on pushups and situps and jumping jacks and running and all, so I may be pretty hard to get ahold of, but if I think I be coming that way, I’ll PM ya a heads-up
Falcon
SpectatorDice mentioned dive bombing… dood, he totally guessed that like a sage or something, at least in the video games that’s my specialty. (in other news, anyone watch Stealth and see that dive-bombing stunt? crazy as hell, but aww hell yeah that was nice). But yeah, what’s not to love about a plane that can break the sound barrier without breaking a sweat? (supersonic cruise for the win). But the F-35’s are very sexy too, with VTOL and all… Pretty much a helicopter on crack, even though there’s other planes that’s done that before too. Not to mention that the only hard part about joining the air force is picking a career – there’s so frickin many that I’d love, that it’s distracting. Maybe pilot, maybe weapons specialist, maybe this, maybe that… geez, the list goes on and on and on.
Falcon
Spectatoralso, btw, if I do, then say 1 week after i sign on the (dotted? dashed? morse-code-for-sucker-ed?) line, then this account will be being retired. In the interest of club history and so on, I’ll just sanitize my profile information and change the password, then never be back. I might show up under a new name someday, who knows. prolly be 4-6 years down the road, cos in my free time, I’m gonna be working on “achievements” like training, merit badges, school, etc., like a fool without a life.

CAN I RIDE SHOTGUN?I think technically there is no shotgun seat in smaller craft… and if you sit in my lap we’re both doomed… but they do have navigators that sit right behind the pilots a bunch of the time… but you too have to make it through flight school. heh. annually, not even 1,500 people make it. if you do, though, i may well be needing a navigator or a wingman

Falcon
Spectatorcongrats, man!
I’ll be out of town next week, but somehow I’ve ended up in a internship / volunteer position over near Biltmore (on hendersonville road). I might just have to catch up with ya sometime if you’re around
Falcon
Spectatorheh, close enough dicey… only through great and unpredictably insane irony, I have somehow become obligated, through a third party, as a temp at a computer repair place way the heck past asheville down I-26 and so on, so I’m about as present in the area as chewbacca in star trek. otherwise i might try to visit some, but that thrashed my schedule and removed all travelling abilities
Falcon
