Falcon
SpectatorSo yeah, I’m definitely thinking about it. And I’d love to have the opportunity to make pilot. I’ve got 6 years left to qualify, so I need to be getting to work on that. And the longer I hang around in college outside of there, the less time I’ll have. On that thought, I may not be waiting much longer at all.
Just thought I’d drop in and spread the word.

Spectatoralso, btw, if I do, then say 1 week after i sign on the (dotted? dashed? morse-code-for-sucker-ed?) line, then this account will be being retired. In the interest of club history and so on, I’ll just sanitize my profile information and change the password, then never be back. I might show up under a new name someday, who knows. prolly be 4-6 years down the road, cos in my free time, I’m gonna be working on “achievements” like training, merit badges, school, etc., like a fool without a life.

SpectatorMy cousin is a Captain in the Air Force. He is flew B1 bombers in Afganistan and now is flying Predator drones. Today he flew a U2, interviewing for that seat.

Spectatori heard F-22s can’t fly in the rain cause they are apparently made of an alloy of titanium and cotton candy and the abrasive rain damages the planes skin…
but i think the Air Force would be pretty *edited* awesome, good luck!

: ) i kid
anyways the F-22 rain thing comes from some report, i think there was an article in the washington post…i dunno how that paper leans, so it’s probably biased, but the rain damages the stealth layer on the plane

pretty *edited*ing win aircraft… besides VTOL, being faster, and being smaller on radar than the f-22, it also was help built my my grandpa

The F-22’s cruise speed is faster than the F-35’s maximum speed and the F-22’s max speed is like 40% faster than F-35. While 20% larger, the F-22 has twice as many internally housed missiles than the F-35. The F-35’s stealth hasn’t been well described in relation to anything and it’s usually described in relation to last-gen planes like the F-16. The F-22 has the same radar signature as a steel marble and isn’t dependent on paint like the F-117 was which is why I question the article saying the paint wearing off in rain makes it less stealthy.
Sorry, I know everyone wants the F-35 because they’re cheaper but I’m all about killing 6 targets at 100 miles and another 2 at 10 miles.

F-35 has clocked higher speeds with the Naval Version than the F-22’s fastest time can reach. When they put the VTOL engine in it for the Army and Marine version it is significantly slower than the F-22. Payload yea ill agree. The F-22 could take out Ireland if it wanted to, but the F-22 is considered a “Defense Bomber” so it has to carry a punch. F-35 was designed to be more maneuverable and like you said, replace the F-16 and F-15 but from the Lockheed journal my family gets every month, when looking at stealth signatures, the F-16 looks like a flying house, the F-22 looks like a Bird, and the F-35 looks like a dragonfly. Now if that is propaganda for investors or actually true i cannot verify lol.
I would say that there is a whole lot the article isn’t saying that Lockheed and The Dept of Def do not want you to know about the F-22 so they say the issue is in the “paint”.

Their claim is that fuel capacity was sacrificed to offset the space and weight of the VTOL system.
But like you said it’s not a carrier based plane so we’re technically comparing apples to oranges. Army planes have always had greater range and payloads than Navy planes.

SpectatorDice mentioned dive bombing… dood, he totally guessed that like a sage or something, at least in the video games that’s my specialty. (in other news, anyone watch Stealth and see that dive-bombing stunt? crazy as hell, but aww hell yeah that was nice). But yeah, what’s not to love about a plane that can break the sound barrier without breaking a sweat? (supersonic cruise for the win). But the F-35’s are very sexy too, with VTOL and all… Pretty much a helicopter on crack, even though there’s other planes that’s done that before too. Not to mention that the only hard part about joining the air force is picking a career – there’s so frickin many that I’d love, that it’s distracting. Maybe pilot, maybe weapons specialist, maybe this, maybe that… geez, the list goes on and on and on.
August 16, 2009 at 5:20 pm #90018Falcon
SpectatorSo, yeah. I’m thinking I want to go all the way for pilot. I’ll do some more digging around and make sure I know of the greatest likelihood of how I could get there, and make plans for what happens if I don’t meet qualifications, and all that. (Still considering the possibility of other branches as well, they got pilots too.) That’s a pretty fair summary of any updates on this.
August 28, 2009 at 8:47 pm #90589Falcon
Spectatorand latest summary – I’m going to talk to the other branches to make sure this is my best option. I hope to be signing papers within a matter of weeks.

Spectatorupdate… US Air Force said no (medical). Still looking into other branches, still no news from the Marines, though the unofficial word from the Army is that the medical reason the Air Force cited for turning me down is actually an exception saying I am qualified with them. I’ve not had much chance yet to talk to the other branches

Spectatorlol. just preliminary guesses, based on they searched through a field manual on the subject of disqualifiers, and there my thing was, I think the wording went something to the tune of
without <this>, someone is disqualified, unless they have <this> because of <my condition>
(paraphrasing, of course)
but anywho, more updates, the Marine Corps says no too… Army’s still looking, and I’ve not talked yet to Navy / Coast Guard. barely talked to National Guard, talking to them soon about more.

I can hire you as a body guard, you get more freedom, but you arn’t getting paid in money, only beer.

if I find that this “beer” is sufficient, and there is enough that I could barter some for chips to accompany said beer, then you may have a tempting offer.
But further update, still too early to be sure about anything, but there just might be something to the National Guard. Talked to the recruiter, and things be looking somewhat more optimistic than I was expecting they might.

yeah, so did some digging. Until recent revisions, what I have was indeed specifically enumerated in their docs. It is no longer specifically enumerated, either as a qualifier or disqualifier.
In another part of this digging, stumbled across other charts. Apparently lil’ Falcy may need to go on some sort of beer and chips diet, if they move the weight requirements around any.
In further news… Talkin to the Nat’l Guard, that guy said maybe but the jury’s still out on that. It’s taken enough time to suggest that it is either buried in a massive pile of requests for examination (the papers to request to go visit the people that are the “gatekeepers”), or that mine is undergoing extensive review and scrutiny. mebbe third time’s a charm.
however, this process is taking much longer than I expected, so I’m starting to make contingency plans for next semester. I could possibly see myself staying around locally for a bit.
If this one falls through, I’ll set out to get official requests in with everyone left (Navy, Army, Coast Guard), so I can know for sure if I’ve checked all my options, though.
