SpectatorI had a steelseries steelsound 5h v/2. They are over the ear headphones (they cover your entire ear and dont sit on top). I liked them a lot. The only downfall is that they broke. They fell off of on top of my computer tower (which is on the ground) and broke in half after almost 2 years of being my babies.
So, I’m looking for advice. Should I buy the same set again? Or go with another one? I want the same style headphone (cover entire ear and wrap around).
Thanks a lot guys.

SpectatorSennheiser. Seriously.

SpectatorI would have to say its hard to go wrong with Sennheiser, Plantronics, or, as you know, Steel Series.

SpectatorThe club has given away eDimensional AudioFX 5.1 headsets before and they’re quite nice.
Mine’s still working after 2 years of constant gaming.

Those too, but only the USB ones.
Although, reviews on that headset can be extremely misleading. Saying its cheaply built.

And the eDimensionals are cheaply build, the plastic above the ear pieces is very weak and can be stressed very easily.

SpectatorPersonally dont find the edimensionals very comfortable, but thats probably cause I have dumbo-sized ears…
it really depends on how much you want to spend. I think plantronics is really good on the lower end of the budget and sennheiser is really good on the upper end. Either would be a solid choice.
To give you an idea of plantronics vs sennheiser, this was in a review of the plantronics 367 headset: “Anyway – it may not be Sennheisers, but they are pretty good.” So… Sennheiser is basically the benchmark that other headsets are put up against. Just FYI.

SpectatorI mean for 100 dollars I feel like Sennheiser is worth it.

I am cheap and use a plantronics I got for $13 lolz. Actually its pretty good I like it. Like I said, depends on how much you want to spend.

Yeah maybe if you throw it across the room.

Never threw them. The plastic there was always weak, for me they broke through normal wear and tear. Final straw was tripping on them lol

SpectatorIt sucks because the set I broke was like $80 (a gift from the girlfriend). I emailed them to see if they have replacements parts but I seriously doubt that they do.
I had a few pairs of midline sennheisers and the mic died on 2 pairs. It was sad.

Be honest, would a Plantronics have broken if stepped on/tripped over?

Yes, but my point was, the plastic above the ear pieces was already broken by that point. They could still function as headphones if you did not mind your ear getting scraped by jagged plastic occasionally. I had to super glue them back together twice to keep them lasting as long as they did. The tripping just ruined the USB connector and made the headset completely unusable.
The fact is that the guts of the eDimensional headsets are awesome and provide glorious sound, but the way they are held together is haphazard and shoddy. When you first open the box you will see what I mean. The entire thing feels like it would break if you touch it to hard. The Sennheiser I just bought feels as if I could stand on it and there would be no repercussions. Considering you are paying 40-60 dollars for the eDimensionals, I consider it worth it to spend an extra 20 dollars for Sennheiser which is constructed better, and sounds 10x better than the eDimensionals.
Or you can go the Nickname route and just get a Plantronics for the 13 dollars.

SpectatorI have like 90 bucks to spend from points2shop since the beginning of summer. I WAS going to buy a hard drive with it but I may just have to buy headphones instead. Granted they will be free, it is still disappointing that I couldn’t get the hard drive instead.
I have a long list of computer things I need!
New Headset
New Mouse
New Speakers (the connection on my is bad where they connect to the subs circuit board)
Additional HD
Sad how much all this costs!

SpectatorHeh, oh major. You should just buy them all for me =P. I think the plan will be cashout another http://www.yourfreeiphone.com style site and buy it all with that, heh. Though that money has been paying for school, heh.

SpectatorBought a razer lachesis from a wootoff for $30. That is one off my list! My plan: buy a pair of headphones with points2shop money since it’s free. Next step, buy WD Black 1TB hard drive with money from swagbucks ($25 earned in 2 weeks so far, ETA for purchase: 6 weeks). Next step, get speakers for some event (ie. Christmas).
So, there! Not sure what headset I’m going to order. I want them to sit over my ears and not on top of them. I really liked the steelseries I had, but the point where they broke was VERY thin plastic. I may want a more durable set.
October 8, 2009 at 6:48 pm #94084yousillyGoose
SpectatorAny word on Razer headphones, the carcharias specifically?
They are rated pretty high on newegg.
October 24, 2009 at 5:14 pm #95479yousillyGoose
SpectatorI’m still not settled on one! I looked into a bunch of sennheiser sets. I want a circumaural set, and the only one they offer is like $170 (not doing that). They list their lower models as circumaural on newegg, but that isn’t correct as they do not sit around your ears.
I’m just lost! I had the razer barracuda recommended to me, but I’m not sure!

SpectatorI still love my Logitech USB to be honest, though the older models can be a bit pinchy on the head/ears.

I can second that. also, depending on how you qualify “broke”, I had a pair of some variety of the same style headphones (over the ear), and the mic broke off when I kinda sat on them… Tape fixed it in a jiffy.
