English 101 is designed around the idea of failing students regardless of writing ability. Depending on professor, english 102 is the same.

A guy I graduated with double majored in EE and Math and minored in physics in the regular 4 years with like a 3.95 GPA. He failed English 101 at WCU; took it at a community college and transfered the credit in. Judging by the grade we got on our final report, I’d say his writing ability was top notch lol

If you’re interested, we have the capability to host one on campus but it wouldn’t be ranked.

O snap, I am on that like white on rice =D. Where do I sign up lol.

I may have jumped the gun on that. We CAN host it but I’m not sure if DICE allows unranked servers this time around. On quick glance it looks like you have to rent from an “authorized hosting company”, IE one that funnels profits back to EA.

I’ll check with Derrick tomorrow, he’s the resident BF fanboy.

The Steam forums paint a pretty gruesome picture of this game’s stability. When you turn your head sideways it almost looks like a 3 legged dog…

I almost bought it then decided to wait and see if they fix the problems first. I don’t mind supporting small developers but these guys have released two full games in the last three months and neither one was very stellar.

oh and by the way, the new RD sucks in Central. She keeps giving me crap about the MP room.

Yeah pretty much everyone hates Venus. She’s about as by the book as you can get. She’s kicked ITS student workers out of a dorm they had permission to be in (while wearing purple shirts) and has pretty much the worst judgement of any RD at WCU.

Needless to say, you are by far not the first to not get along with her. Pretty much everyone I knew in Reynolds had beef with her. :)

Not to derail you guys but I’d be REALLY careful about using the study rooms. She’ll unload on you like you wouldn’t believe if someone complains. :(

    My top picks:

    PC – TF2, L4D2, CSS, Starcraft 2

    PS3 – SSF2, Continuum Shift

    360 – MW2, Halo 3

    Wii – Brawl, Wii Resorts

I agree with you Freed, it seems to me like this could possibly be the complete lineup for the first LAN. Well except for CSS b/c we GOTTA vote in some *edited* ported fighter (like Guilty Gear cause thats uber *edited*).

I just call it like I see it and I don’t see CSS getting voted in. Vote for the games you want, no one here has a problem with that, but don’t get upset when I call the games you’re going to vote in before the meeting starts. By all means, prove me wrong, I’d actually prefer to be wrong on this one.

I agree though, aside from PC that’s basically the lineup I was expecting. Good mix of fighting, FPS, and you can’t go wrong with Brawl.

I would be hesitant with hosting a Starcraft2 tournament. Not because of the gameplay, quite the opposite it’d be an awesome game to play but it doesn’t have any LAN capabilities and WCU is having serious lag issues with playing it online. It’d be a shame to get everyone pumped only to discover that people sitting beside each other on a gigabit network were timing out during their match. Maybe have it at a later event after ITS gets their *edited* together but right now with the high probability of having serious issues, I don’t know that I’d even risk it.

Btw, I’m not just a smart *edited* to you guys. Notice the campus network’s been a little slow and crashy lately? I told them it would be that way 3 months ago and 2 weeks ago reminded them why it was doing it and how to very easily fix it.

No one is being overly critical of you Tallgeese, considering how long you’ve been in office a surprising amount of work has actually gotten done. Couple things in reply to your post. Since Brenton isn’t likely to check this I’ll fill you in, the club we were sharing the office with did not want to continue having an office. Since we can’t have an office by ourselves and the UC staff wasn’t overly helpful in locating another partner club he opted to not renew it. He REALLY wanted the office but there wasn’t really anything he could really do about it.

As to the glares at me, if you don’t think my presence is beneficial you don’t know what I’m doing behind the scenes. Also, implying that I haven’t helped you isn’t really all that fair either, the last time you asked for advice (Been a busy man… thread) I wasn’t negative. At all. If you ask for help, I’ll give it without complaint or criticism but if something doesn’t get done and you didn’t ask about it, know about it, or didn’t ask for help with it I consider you fair game. I apply this equally to everyone: Kuros, Bitey, Nickname, Kazka, you, Liam, etc.

Btw, check out the contact sticky I posted in exec discussion. It should help tremendously with contacting RDs. Most of the president’s work can be done via phone, if you need direct line numbers for people let me know and I’ll show you how to look them up. With you being off campus, this would be beneficial as well.

I think Flakes’ problem with the meeting time is that it keeps getting pushed back later and later. We didn’t used to have to schedule around classes because missing members could vote via IRC while in class but people *edited*ed and… sorry I’m being negative again. Unless any of the execs have night classes we really need to try to rein the start time back to around 8. For people who drive, parking can be a nightmare that late and for the hardcore gamers it really messes with people who have clan matches or guild raids.

I’m going to inb4 this and simply say: not likely. Remember the WCUGA guys will be voting and they think counter strike is the antichrist.

PC games will more likely be TF2, L4D2, some *edited* ported fighter game, and a worms style game.

Having the CSS/TF2/L4D2 combo would likely bring in a good out of town crowd, hell I’d probably drive up for it, but the way it’s gone lately I just can’t see it happening.

Please don’t wait until the week of a meeting or LAN to tell us someone’s AWOL. It takes 10-20 minutes to throw together a decent flier…

Keith told you to boot alumni because a certain group of people, not going to name names, told him that alumni were entirely running the club and were banning people from the club. We all know that alumni were doing nothing of the sort but when a lie is told enough times it becomes tantamount to truth.

Dustin is a unique case, he was coming to LAN events before most of you knew there was a gaming club. Freshmen or not, he’s been a defacto member for several years now. He knows how the club was run back in the glory days and how it is bring run now. This gives him a unique perspective on what does and does not work in regards to club policy and practices.

I even liked the whole idea of the alumni voting, but SGA didnt. What are we suppose to do, tell SGA to get over themselves?

You’d be surprised just how often that works. They get mad and talk big but once the rage-high calms and they start investigating what possible harm they can inflict as punishment they realize it’s actually quite minimal. If they invent rules like no alumni intervention with clubs, something greeks get away with every year, either ignore them or skirt the issue entirely over to another subject. SGA changes rules more often than most college students change underwear so it’s likely you won’t hear about it again.

Life lesson about “problems” that don’t exist: The moment you acknowledge a false problem is the moment you become bound to fixing it. In the appeasement of fixing it you’ll create even more problems which you are automatically required to fix as well.

Two life lessons on one page… at this rate we’ll be creating black holes in no time. Maybe we can then fly our club starship into it and skirt the outer edge to land into a similar multiverse, possibly one in which SGA doesn’t exist. That would also solve the problem. There’s just that whole gravitational and subspace distortion thing, survival wouldn’t be… yeah ok, I lost you two sentences ago.

And yes, it is possible for an individual to become a member in one semester, but hell, is it so much to ask that it just SOUND easier, and to make MORE sense, lord….

We are the largest campus organization. Second to us is the InterFraternity Council. We all know how long it takes (and how hard it is) to join a fraternity.

    Bitey said:

For the record SGA used to have very little say in what the club did, I think we should be on good terms with the SGA not have to bow down to them, Keith Corzine is the sole contributor to this club and so in the past we answered to him and SGA had to cough up the dough because of him, why or how that changed I am not sure. Anyways, guess that is just the boat we are in now.

Before Kazka, whenever SGA disapproved of something we did or threatened us we simply gave them the middle finger and went on with our business. We aren’t a run of the mill club, we aren’t obligated to go to interclub council meetings, and our primary funding comes from the Reslife general fund, something SGA has no control over. Very little of our budget is contingent on SGA approval and if you guys would stop *edited*ing in the alumnus’ cornflakes we’d gladly fill in whatever they refuse to give as punishment. Hell the last time they actually did something to us (cut our funding without telling us and leaving us with the bills) we simply told Keith about it and magically we got the SGA funding back. You can take that even further if you want, the last time IT threatened to take our server and switches away we made a call for donations from the online community and almost overnight had enough to buy a replacement server. Faced with the prospect of having no control or limited control, they chose to take what they could get and backed down. You can’t do that now because the online community’s been run off but hey console gamers are just as willing to donate, right? You guys love the club as much as the old PC players did, right?

Due to the changes in the last year it’s almost too late to avoid submitting to their authority. Almost, not impossible. You can still remain autonomous, but to do it you’ll have to get your hands dirty and you can’t be afraid to make enemies. Remember, anyone who hates you because your actions are contrary to what they desire cannot also have your best interests at heart. You’ll find in life that your own success and the desires of others are always mutually exclusive. You can only tread the line of appeasement so far before you are required to make a choice. Taking any part of the middle ground sacrifices your success, yet doesn’t accomplish the goal of appeasing them. They will never be appeased until you are entirely under their control. Walking the path of appeasement is like flying into a black hole. If you turn back in time, no harm done, but if you wait to long you’ll either be destroyed or consumed.

Non-students? No. They cut us away a year ago. Aside from constantly poking execs with e-sticks to make them do things and doing it ourselves when they forget or “get busy” we don’t really get to do much.

Btw, even if you had 3 meetings the fall semester and 5 the spring semester, if they went to all 3 meetings in the fall and then to the voting meeting in the spring, guess what? 3+1 = 4. That’s half. Meaning they might not be a member until the actual meeting itself but the benefits are the same as if they had gotten membership at the very end of the fall semester.

The only way that doesn’t work is if you have 2 meetings in the fall and 5 in the spring. I know I’m a negative nancy but there’s not a chance in hell you’d be able to pull off 5 general meetings in one semester, especially not after getting away with just 2 the previous semester. Need I remind you that some campus gaming clubs get away with 1 or 2 meetings… per year.

“In order to become a member within the Western Carolina University Gaming Club, one must be a current student at Western Carolina University, attend a minimum of two official LAN events and at least half of the meetings every year”

That last part is the one that needs to be cleaned up, mitch. As its half within a years time, if we had 3 in one semester, and 5 the other, that would be 8, meaning the member need to come to 4, not just the 3 from the first semester.

Regardless of past presidents, this gives us a foot hold forward, regardless if anyone actually ever reads it.

Every president says we’re going to hold more meetings under their administration but we never do. It’s always 2 per semester, maybe 3 at the absolute most. I can’t remember a single year I’ve been here where the second semester had more meetings for general members than the first semester had.

Regardless of past presidents? That was a glaring indicator of how much people care. What good does signing something do if they still aren’t going to read it? It doesn’t mean they have to abide by it, nor does it prevent them from destroying it with contradictory amendments.

This is why people use Teamspeak. On Vent, you can’t ban spammers and annoying people, they always get back in. With Teamspeak, you just ban their subnet and poof they’re gone.

Voice comms are great if you play games that don’t have in-game voice chat and when you have friends on both teams. It does distract you from the game some but after a while you get used to multiple conversations or learn to ignore one in favor of another.

I used to use multiple instances of Teamspeak2 and in-game voicecomms and could follow 2-3 seperate conversations. It sucks when everyone’s talking at once but usually it’s not that bad. Teamspeak Overlay is epic useful when doing this btw. Getting TSO to latch on to multiple teamspeak instances though, well, that’s all kinds of not easy :(

These include having all members and new members here out to sign a paper stating to uphold the constitution, and stating they know what is in the constitution

90% or more of the execs we’ve had in the last 3 years never read the club constitution, they didn’t care. Even some past presidents didn’t know what was in it. You can dance around this issue all you want but at the end of the day you’d be naive to think that’s ever going to change. Those who are just here to play games can’t be bothered to do so.

Also, as I’ve said about a dozen times now, it’s possible to become a full member in 1 semester. Please go read the constitution before you sign the paper saying you know what’s in it

Please clarify on the membership “re-opening”. Does this mean you’re simply giving away dozens of memberships to people who show up to a single meeting? What about those who previously met the requirements but don’t know about this, are they just screwed? What about those who lose it in the future and want it back instantly by attending a voting meeting? Also, temporary amendents will not fly with SGA. Hope no one reports you…

Any amendments need to be completely written and finalized BEFORE the meeting starts and have the approval of our staff advisor.
