It gives you the ability to be seen behind walls, just like those tophats everyone has.

You’re the free market man right? Why not legalize it, privatize it, slap a tax and regulate it like tobacco and alcohol, and make some money?
So let me get this straight. You honestly think people will buy it from the official store and not only pay the higher price but also pay taxes on it? The government can’t win a price war with drug cartels. It’s like buying computer parts, you can do it at a local shop and pay higher prices and taxes or you can get them online. Sure there’s some who pay more but most don’t. Just like shipping costs are often cheaper than the taxes, driving to the rough side of town will be cheaper than paying the taxes.
Also, alcohol is NOT a privatized substance. If it was, anyone could make and sell it. The ATF has placed extremely limitations on how much beer and wine you can make and you’ll land serious time, often 20+ years, for making your own hard liquor. Even with beer and wine, you aren’t allowed to sell what you make. To legally sell your own brews you have to fill out a TON of forms and likely hire a dedicated business CPA to keep up with all the taxes, something that is typically very expensive.

I dunno if you realized, but california doesn’t exactly have the funds to build more prisons. Just because you commit a crime, it doesn’t make you a criminal. Ask any person who’s studied criminal justice this. Robbing a bank is different for obvious reasons. One may try and rob a bank with threats of violence and another may just try & sneak in after hours. You can’t just say it doesn’t make sense at all. You’re grossly over simplifying it. I’m going to try and not pull a rant now.
California most certainly does have the funds to build prisons, they just choose to spend it on pork barrel and special interest projects instead. Rather than cut spending on things the state doesn’t need, government officials often just claim that they don’t have enough money to avoid making decisions or to justify tax increases. This is why many small businesses pay 50% or more in income taxes right now.
How are some crimes not crimes? Just because it’s not a “violent crime” doesn’t mean it’s not a “crime”. It doesn’t hurt anyone, sure, and neither does alcohol, right up to the point where it does.

ParticipantWhat’s the deal with some newly-earned items not being allowed for use in crafting? I currently equip the Force-A-Nature and got a non-vintage one earlier today that specifically states that it can’t be traded or used for crafting.

what federal agent would go after someone who has less than an ounce on them? State > local, so unless you’re talking pounds and pounds, it’s a little more than just symbolic. Anyone with a joint (which by the way is the majority of arrests) will probably not get anything but a slap on the wrist.
I’m pretty sure if it’s a federal law any officer can arrest for it. They most likely won’t because it’ll become an expensive legal nightmare but as far as the law goes they’d probably be justified.

Plus, the prisons in cali are the most crowded.
Everytime marijuana legalization comes up this is stated and it makes no sense. At all. If I go rob a bank in California you think they’ll let me go because the prisons are too crowded? Of course not. They’ll tell Bubba and Big Al to make their new cellmate feel at home.
Just because the prisons are crowded doesn’t mean the people who commit crimes aren’t criminals. It means you need to stop spending millions of dollars on special interest pork projects and build more prisons.

Still though, manufacturer hardware diagnostics never tell the whole story. They’ll say a hard drive is bad for a problem 99% of techs will tell you is perfectly fine.
MasterP
ParticipantIf a computer freezes, it’s done so for a reason. Letting it sit there usually makes things worse, especially if it’s a hardware problem. If something overheated and you left it on “for a few hours” then it’s likely unfixable now.
If explorer is crashing you’ve either got a virus or a serious corruption issue. Backup everything and reinstall Vista. If that works for a week or so then do a clean install of Windows7.

Oh, hey. This kinda reminds me of that case a couple years ago, where a guy stole a car and got into a police chase. Then two news choppers followed him, crashed into each other, and the criminal was charged with murder. I never did hear what happened in that case..
They didn’t start trying him until earlier this year for whatever reason, likely so they couldn’t figure out how to charge him with all the crimes he didn’t directly cause. The guy pleaded guilty to 35 crimes but was not charged for the deaths of those on the helicopters. It was found that one helicopter got careless and essentially rammed the other. The families of the helicopter that wasn’t flown by a retard was given an undisclosed settlement out of court by the offending news station.
There were 6 helicopters in close proximity during the chase, 5 were news helicopters. It’s a stretch to say that the guy on the ground made them be there <_>

Unless I misread the article, the judge can give the two perps five years simply because of the invasion of privacy, without giving any thought to the suicide. Wouldn’t it be fair to say that he would give them both the maximum to make an example of them and give a little comfort towards the families? That would be totally legal.
If they don’t take the extra circumstances into account it’s hard to justify making an example of them or giving the maximum sentence. I’m sure there’s been other cases of people recording roommates and the punishment of those cases will likely determine the punishment for this one.

Just saying its gonna be hard to justify a 5 year prison sentence when the guy clearly had other options rather than suicide. Was it terrible? yeah probably but come on it was not the end of the world. though as his roommate he probably should have known the type of reaction he might get for doing something like this.
Not all roommates know or talk to each other.
Here’s the problem though, the judge can’t take the suicide into consideration when sentencing them because it’s a totally seperate issue from the crime itself. If public embarrassment leading to suicide was a crime Gordon Ramsay would be doing a life sentence by now.
Illegally filming sex is a crime, and they’ll be punished in accordance with that, but saying that because someone being filmed reacted a certain way that they should be charged with more of a crime is how judicial activism started. If it had become public knowledge through normal means that this guy was *edited* he would have been just as likely to commit suicide because he wasn’t comfortable with his life choices being made public. That’s not the roommate’s fault.
The family has a strong wrongful death case and I think that’s how this should be persued. If this goes to criminal court, all those two have to do is prove that they didn’t HELP him commit suicide and that a normally sane person wouldn’t commit suicide when it becomes public knowledge that they’re *edited*. At that point the court will have to accept that the guy was mentally unstable. This opens his family and *edited* lover to becoming accessories to the suicide for not seeing what should have been obvious signs of mental instability. This could backfire for the family. Big time.
Don’t get me wrong. I think what they did was unforgiveable and hope they burn in hell for it but the US legal system isn’t set up to dispense moral justice.
MasterP
ParticipantI think the family is more than entitled to sue over wrongful death. But prison is a bit harsh for recording someone having sex in a dorm room. If the guy wanted privacy he should have done it somewhere private.
MasterP
ParticipantI’m pretty sure DVDX is still compatible with LU64 and Black Wiis but I know the new DVD player firmware prevents backup playback. You should still be able to watch movies though.
MasterP
ParticipantYou only have to do 1 experiment for your senior project?
MasterP
ParticipantIf someone wants to commit suicide, they’re going to find a way to do it regardless of who’s watching. If they had stopped him from jumping he’d have done it in a private, likely far more painful way. Making the suicide public knowledge or streamed is extremely poor taste but they can’t be charged for it.
I don’t understand the charges against these two. There is no expectation of privacy in a shared dorm room. While it’s illegal to record people having sex without at least informing them, when there’s no expectation of privacy it’s extremely hard to get any charges to stick. For example, recording people having sex on a park bench and putting it on the internet without their permission or knowledge is not illegal.
I think these two will be drug through the mud by the media but will be quietly acquitted on the charges.
MasterP
ParticipantWith the new Wiis, just be aware that you can’t downgrade below 4.2U or install the firmware version of Bootmii. The DVD drives won’t read backups either. Other than that it should be about the same if you go the USB route.
With 4.3U you’ll have to use Indian Pwns or Smash Stack to install HBC/Bootmii.
Also worth noting, the new HBC has USB2 and DVDX support directly integrated so any application launched from it will natively get that support. This is especially useful for loading games from a USB drive as you won’t have to always worry about getting the updated version after you update your Wii.

It has nothing to do with freeing a terrorist. The ACLU, American Civil Liberties Union, filed a lawsuit on behave of the american born terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki to prevent the U.S. from assassinating him. Their argument is that if the U.S. is allowed to assassinate Anwar, a citizen, what’s stopping them from assassinating other citizens (like yourself) for another reason. It’s totally bogus, but then again the ACLU is pretty bogus.
Holy mother of…
