HV Bible?
You didn’t read the article.
MasterP
ParticipantI tossed the HV Bible on my torrent box. I’d ask that anyone else who torrents do the same. This is not how a sane corporate entity deals with its problems.
MasterP
ParticipantRegardless of whether or not the old universe still exists, there will be no new content for it or interaction with it. Replaced or not, it’s just as dead.
MasterP
ParticipantDMCA? What?
That’s umm… Not how DMCA works…
MasterP
ParticipantOr stargate anything. Seriously, if Universe had replicators they wouldn’t have been cancelled lol
MasterP
ParticipantTrue enough but a MAJOR selling point early on was its linux OS functionality. Whenever a consumer has to choose between losing some features to continue using others, the mistake was made long ago when picking what to buy.
MasterP
ParticipantI can’t stress enough how glad I am that I didn’t buy a PS3 and at this point I’ll never buy or recommend another Sony product. Their views of warranties and customer expectations are appalling. I’ve never seen a for-profit corporate-entity make arguments like those.
How are they still in business with a mentality like that?

dont hate but my fav ST was ST 8
First Contact? That thing had more plot holes than the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones combined. I mean it was ok if you don’t really pay attention but if you apply one iota of thought to the movie it makes so little sense that your brain will start hurting.

One thing I am curious about: I understand that some sort of time traveling mishap changed the backstory of the original series and created a whole new timeline. Does this mean that the original Star Trek universe has been replaced or is it supposed to still exist in a parallel universe or something?
Replaced. Probably permanently. ST12 will also be based in the new timeline.
See the problem is that the original timeline has been spent. They can’t create any more TNG-based movies because the last two have been abysmal failures at the box office. The TNG crew just can’t act the parts anymore. The only place where they can safely make movies is the pre-TNG but they can’t really do that without having to tip-toe around the original backstory for the original Star Trek and we know even the slightest slip up will be noticed and boo’d in theaters. The solution? Create an alternate timeline where even if you contradict something from TOS you can write it off as the alternate character making a different decision. I mean as far as giving themselves room to maneuver, it was genious.

ParticipantWhen you account for inflation, Star Trek 4 is the highest grossing film in the series to date. WITHOUT accounting for inflation it’s still higher than all the others except ST11 in 2009. The budget? 1/6 of what the newest one used.
Don’t get me wrong, ST11 is decent but for all the visuals I still like ST2, ST4, and ST6 more. The plot seemed stale and reused. I mean aliens traveling from the future to destroy the federation? The ENTIRE Star Trek Enterprise series was based on that plot.
Maybe ST12 will be better, idk. Hopefully it doesn’t involve a giant spacecloud, Khan, time travel, or whales. If it does I’ll feel as ripped off as my dad did with the Battlestar Galactica remake.

ParticipantI has a spare for you.

ParticipantCongrats on the successful event.
Something like this would make a nice monthly thing.

ParticipantJJ Abrahms. And just when you thought Star Trek couldn’t get any worse.
MasterP
ParticipantPlease. No.

ParticipantMS? Really? Wow that sucks for Sony. In that case the lawsuit makes even less sense now that there’s a remote chance that their primary competitor that has no problem bleeding money might back him.
MasterP
ParticipantTbh, I’m still surprised Sony is actually suing him. If someone is good enough to single-handedly crack their security algorithm they need to HIRE this person. I’ve never understood why companies try to sue rather than work with obviously intelligent and dedicated fans.
MasterP
ParticipantWell the thing is they found ways to secure their consoles but chose to take engineering shortcuts to save money. Nintendo left their security subsystem virtually unprotected against physical attacks and Sony didn’t even implement the main part of their security protocol. I guess they think consumers are dumb and sheepish and, well, for the most part they’re right. Just like in the Matrix, the problem is with that 1% that doesn’t accept the programming.

ParticipantI’m pretty sure that cake isn’t a lie, but it could be. The recipe called for “1 tbsp of deception”. Food Lion was sold out so I substituted with chocolate powder.
MasterP
ParticipantHappy BD man.
Since I’m late I baked you a cake. It’s your favorite.

I wouldn’t be playing it enough to justify the $15 a month.
This is why I quit after the closed beta ended back in 2004. Great game but junior/senior HS and college students should not be spending that much time in a game that doesn’t end or build RL friendships.
MasterP
ParticipantGetting “burnt out” sucks and only time can reverse it. Walk away for a week or so, it’ll either reinvigorate your desire to play or show you it’s time to move on.

ParticipantIf you need it, the club has about 100 ethernet cables ranging from 10 ft to 100 ft. We also have 16-24 power strips and about a dozen of those high-gauge orange extension cables.
Also, I cannot stress enough how important it is for Stephen to clear the networking wall port that you’re going to use. If he doesn’t you won’t have any internet on any device plugged into the switch. I don’t think you’ll even pull IP addresses. Essentially, the networking closet sees that you’ve plugged in a high-count switch and disables the port to prevent you from using it. If you’re LAN only you’ll be fine but if you need to connect to XBL, PSN, or NWFC for matchmaking it’ll really rain on your parade.
Congrats on organizing it and good luck with the recruitment. Regardless of turnout, it’s great experience for a future leadership position in the club. Hint, hint

ParticipantSince Chrome’s release I at least skim every EULA but yeah you’re definately right. The thing is that console makers constantly change the EULA and basically say that by updating to version X you accept the updated EULA. The EULA from release date is often significantly different than that of the current OS version, for all the major consoles and handhelds.
The big thing, in my mind anyway, is that all 3 companies single out piracy as the reason why they’re strict on this even though most of us that modify our consoles don’t do so to pirate games. Wii owners wanted DVD playback, PS3 owners are just trying to get back a feature they had when they originally bought their consoles, and XBOX owners are, well, idk,
. The question that’s developing is whether or not YOU, the consumer, own the console or are you simply renting it? You bought it, took it home, plugged it in but the manufacturer is still reaching out and dictating what you can and cannot do with it. Congress spent years going after cell phones for this sort of thing, I can’t imaigne why these guys would be going out of their way to use the same business practices that got them in so much trouble. Every consumer knows that’s wrong but I don’t think anyone is upset enough to sue over it. They’d probably win, it’s definately an immoral business practice, but no one wants to go risk the money required to go against a major company.
It’s kinda like when they sued manufacturers over false advertising in wireless networking gear, it took one really brave person to start the domino of lawsuits. They all settled, of course, which is why they can still put 54Mbit as an actually achieveable bandwidth on wireless G devices, but the concept is the same. You’re buying something but you either can’t use it to it’s fullest extent or were lied to about the features it had.
MasterP
ParticipantIs such power granted to Sony through the EULA? I smell a class-action lawsuit.
MasterP
ParticipantI glanced over things and there’s a good deal wrong with the CSS Main and 24/7 Dust2 servers. I’ll try to sort them out tonight.
Lemm get with me on Steam and I’ll reset your passwords.

ParticipantI always preferred the Chinese chu ko nu. Since they fire 3 arrows per volley they do very well against most units and still maintain good damage against anti-archer units. It also serves as an extremely powerful garrison unit. The only way to counter a mass of them is an even larger mass of heavy horse or ranged artillery, which typically doesn’t stay ranged for long

At 40 wood and 35 gold it’s a really cheap way unit to mass produce and with conscription takes very little time to produce.

ParticipantGo ahead and call, Stephen very rarely replies to email from students he doesn’t know. I’m telling you though, the club owns a 48 port netgear switch that is exactly what you guys need.
Unless there’s a power hookup, there’s nothing you really can do about power. Just make sure that you balance the load really well and pray the room has multiple circuits. Make sure that there is an RA on duty in the lobby so that when a circuit trips they can help you reset it. Having done this for years I can tell you console players are the worst at power setup and are the only group to trip circuits at an actual LAN so someone will have to babysit the entire setup period to make sure people don’t daisychain surge protectors. Rule of thumb is 1 Surge protector for each wall outlet, anything over that and you risk a blackout. For calculation purposes, below is a list of the power consumption of devices and the max allowed per breaker.
TVs
Average plasma: 300 watts
Average LCD (standard): 110 watts
Average LCD (LED): 100 watts
Consoles
PlayStation 3: 200 watts
PlayStation 3 Slim: 100 watts
Xbox 360 (all modems): 200 watts
Nintendo Wii: 20 watts (that’s not a typo)
Theoretical max on a 15 amp breaker: 1800 watts
Absolute max on a 15 amp breaker: 2100-2400 watts (depending on bulding wire quality)

ParticipantRhetorically speaking, isn’t that the PC VP’s job?
MasterP
ParticipantThe club owns a 48 port switch that would suit you guys just fine.
You’ll need to contact Stephen in networking with which port you plan on plugging the switch into so he can remove some of the security policies on it.
