Exactly. You stated that you would not be in favor of Karl Rove gaining previously unheard-of control over the Census. Yet, you are okay with Rahm Emanuel gaining the same power. If this were a situation in which ideology were the main issue, then preferring one political party over another would be acceptable (think elections). However, the topic is the grasping of new power by politicians. The main question is whether or not it is ethically sound for a politician to gain a new power with no precedent. Political parties don’t even come into the equation. Your stated position was that it would not be okay for Karl Rove to get such power. As such, the same token must be given to Rahm Emanuel. Otherwise, you would be showing bias in favor of one political party in an issue where political parties are irrelevant.

New power for me, but not for thee.

I don’t think I can explain it more clearly than I already have. My guess is you just don’t want to understand.

If you believe it is okay for the Constitution to be bent to give a Democrat more power, but it is not okay for the same thing to happen to a Republican, you are a hypocrite.

You are okay with a Democrat doing something, but if a Republican did the same thing you would not be okay with it. This, by definition, is hypocritical. I would not be okay with a member of either party doing such things. This is not hypocritical, as it applies the same standards to both parties.

I wouldn’t be okay with him running the census because he is a Republican. Republicans don’t share my beliefs, which is why I don’t like them in office. I wouldn’t mind democrats running it because I’m a democrat. Surprise, Surprise. That’s all that really is.

So, your justification for hypocracy is that you are honest about it?

I don’t know if you remember, but the last guy broke the world.

I hate to derail, but under Bush’s watch the Taliban was crippled, no succesful terrorist attacks took place on American soil or territories, Saddam Hussein was removed from power, the beginnings of democracy were brought to Afghanistan and Iraq, and thousands of Africans recieved supplies and first aide. Admitedly, Bush screwed a number of things up, but to say he broke the world is nonsense.

At the risk of repeating myself, I sort of think that Americans misuse the term “Asian.” We generally talk about Asians as people from East-Asia or people whose ancestry can be traced to East-Asia. This is flawed because 1) it ignores the Middle East, Russia, and South Asia and 2) it does not distinguish between those who were raised in Asia and those whose family originated in Asia. The last thing I want to do is insult a bunch of people (sure, sure) but I think it is wrong to refer to someone who was born and raised in the United States as Asian. A good example is Michelle Malkin, an American journalist whose parents hail from the Philippines. Whenever someone calls her “Asian” she is quick to point out that she is not Asian, but rather, American. She is no more Asian than I am European.

In short: Master Roshi is the most awesome character ever.

Really the term asian is such a sloppy designation. Technically speaking, someone born and raised in Jerusalem is just as much an asian as someone born and raised in Tokyo. I think when we say asian, we usualy mean “someone from East-Asia” or “someone whose family comes from East-Asia.” I try to avoid the term because it has a bunch of different potential meanings.

To me, the fact that Goku’s actor is white isn’t as annoying as the fact that he looks suspicously like Chris Wylde. It’s like Goku can’t save the world because he’s too busy smoking weed and not working.

Even if he’s a Saiyan, he’s supposed to be Asian. Everyone I talked to has agreed that if there was EVER to be a live action DBZ movie, they imagined that Goku would be Asian. This is an outrage.

If you take a close look at the character designs of different animes, it’s kind of difficult to discern the ethnicity of the characters. Still, I think an asian Goku would be more acceptable. After all, his name is Goku, not Johnny.

I was playing TF2 the other day, when I heard the following conversation:

Guy #1: “I wish there was an option that let you respawn as Michael Jackson.”

Guy #2: “That is the worst idea I have ever heard.”

Me: “That beautiful, supple young boy is a spy!”

I actually found it kind of encouraging that his grandmother was so *edited*ed off at him. It seemed like she is serious about getting the kid some counceling or something.

Oh, and did anyone see that movie “Role Models?” Exact same thing happened in that film.
