after they finally moved us to beta servers and the last two patches the game is a lot better… I was really disappointed at first. The mobs are harder to kill and a lot of the bugs have been fixed. I really think they did a good job finalizing it before it went gold. I just got done taking 8 ounce of hope from demons in one area.

ugh.. i have such a hard time remembering these dates for the meetings… Could someone help me out? I remember reading about and writing down the date, but given the break I forgot completely :(. Was looking forward to going for tf2 cl :P. Ah well.

But really, someone try to remind me about these meetings. I am terribly swamped atm and can’t keep up half the time.

Even a pm or txt or phone call would do it. I’m almost always on steam :D.

to your team mates you just have on a mask… u don’t look like the enemy at all..

It’s possible that I could be a spy disguised as a spy.

Either way, I meant that I push my ‘talk’ button when I am playing any class. It’s annoying getting chased and shot by your team mates all the time just because they are looking for a spy. Nothing game breaking, just annoying as hell for me. Thus, I’ve found several ways to avoid having to do it to other players and how to let other players know I’m a friendly ‘any class.’

It is obvious, within 2 minutes of a persons first time playing the game, that a friendly spy looks like a friendly spy with a mask on :). However, thanks for the update! After 22 hours of playing a spy I couldn’t possibly know that ;).

been playing since this morning, and i realized just how long it’s been since i played team fortress of any kind, but it was pretty fun, i’m not sure how i like the engy interface but toher than that it was enjoyable, though the scouts were suspiciously powerful

Just be a good engineer and look move around a lot and try to find ways to spot spies. For one, they always have the default gun out as whatever class they are imitating. So they won’t, for instance, have a baseball bat out. They can’t shoot a weapon, so if they aren’t shooting anyone, u know its a spy (or an idiot). Your safest bet would be to try talking to them and shooting everyone. Anytime I’m a spy I just hit the talk key to let my team mates know that I’m not an enemy.

    Anywho, sleep time.

The big problem with FF off is damage control. It really is extremely hard not to accidentally kill your team when u have rockets, demo nades, inaccurate weapons, sentry guns, AND people looking for spies. The one time I found a ff=on server it wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. I personally don’t mind that they took ff out of the game. I got around 21 hours logged as a spy and I still do pretty well in most circumstances. Originally I was a huge supporter of ‘hey lets turn FF on for spies!’ However, after playing on that server I really got the feeling that it took away more game play than it allowed.

Either way ff=off permanently for now so it is a moot point.

Just so I don’t gotta type this out again, I’m copying some of what i’ve said in another post here for u liam :P.

This game comes packed with around 21 maps!

World in Conflict is not your typical RTS. The only similarity is that users control multiple units and have a flexible view of the entire map.

RTS’ such as starcraft, warcraft, or company of heroes, are far different from World in Conflict. So much so that I wouldn’t put them in the same category.

We could easily host WiC. It would be a perfect game for LAN tournaments.

Unlike a ‘real’ RTS this game doesn’t require ‘work’ to get involved in and is much less ‘time invested.’

Much like counter-strike, a player can hop in a server for 10-30 mins, smash the other teams face in, and leave. You can leave mid-map and rest assured that someone will replace u soon enough. The commitment of staying in a game isn’t the same as it is in a real RTS. Thus, giving players a much more flexible multiplayer experience.

Maps are timed exactly like CSS, TF2, or any game we currently host for PC tournaments. Drop In/Drop Out multiplayer. No resource management (Beyond using the set pool of points). We setup the server configurations and let people join the server as they please.

Winning is based on the type of map you are playing.

(I will edit this part later and post on the Gaming News section)

Attack / Defend – 8 players push towards set points on the map (starting with the closest), once the attacking team is within the point, without any resistance from the 8 player defense, the point is locked in their control and they continue to push to the next point. This goes on until the attacking team captures all points or the defending team successfully defends at least 1 point until the time runs out.

Phase two has the 8 players who were previously defending, attacking. If they defended several points last phase then they only have to capture 1 point beyond the previous team or capture the same points more quickly.

Territory Control – 8 on 8 compete to control the most territory in a certain time frame. (Two flags at the top indicate which side is pushing more, with the flags meeting in the middle at the start of the round). Typically there are 3-5 areas to control and you control them by having ground units stand in the respective control points (1-3 per area) without any enemy resistance to control that area.

There are a few more modes of play but no reason to go into them. The game comes with around 21 maps packed in and an excellent single player campaign. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of traditionally RTS games or not. I can almost 100% guarantee that you will enjoy this game if you give it a chance.

No base management. 8 vs. 8 game play that gives the game an awesome community atmosphere (much like CSS or TF2).

    Good integrated VoIP.

Its a class based action game where you control multiple units and the units you have access to are defined by the class you choose (Armor, Infantry, Support, Air). You then spend the 5000-7000 points you have to drop in your units. If a unit dies, its point cost is slowly filtered back into your point total and you can buy again. Imagine the point system like a respawn timer. X amount of time before you have the points to get that unit back in the game.

The better you kill the enemy, aid your team, and hold control points, the more u accumulate points to give yourself some tactical aid. (Ex: Tactical Nuke, Heavy Artillery, Laser Guided Bomb, Air Infantry, Air Drop Light Tank, Napalm, Bridge Repair, Air to Air strike, Air to Ground Strike, Tank Buster, etc…)

If you haven’t seen a nuke go off in this game, you are definitely missing out. Search world in conflict nuke on you tube.

At any rate, this game is definitely worth looking into.

Beyond the multiplayer (which is excellent) I was completely blown away by the fact that the single player campaign is awesome from start to finish. The overall story is done well and you really ‘feel’ the need to continue each new map.

Basically I feel that this game should not be classified the same way any traditional RTS is. It takes all the drawbacks of the typical RTS game away and replaces them with action and good pace. It was designed to be friendly towards the tournament and LAN community. I think it would be a bad idea to decide not to give this game a chance within our gaming community.

Quake Wars is a terrible, horrible, disaster of a game. Hardly worth putting on our servers. I think our server resources would be better spent on a game like World in Conflict.

Also, as a former MAJOR TFC player, I”d much rather see the respawn time at 3-5 seconds. TF2 is supposed to be fast paced and a 12 second respawn is anything but fast. FIND ME THE CVAR. I don’t have time to go digging until later this week.

I was talking to a guy the other day about his server and its 0 respawn timer. He said something about it being a pain in the *edited* to change the respawn timer. He mentioned more than one file needing to be changed and such. I personally have no idea and he could have been an idiot.

I’ll start looking into how to change all the stuff in tf2 and what, if anything, is different as far as configurations go in tf2 versus something like cs:s.

Spy all the way. I used to be good with the old tfc spy but now… I can truly cloak… It is amazing at how easy people can be to kill.

I would prefer friendly fire on though :\, or some kind of penalty for shooting your own team for no reason. It would be great to actually feel like a spy! I rarely run around in the enemy base uncloaked because 99% of the time they will shoot me 3 good times ‘just to check.’

At any rate, still love the spy ^^.

Beyond that I like all the other classes equally. Everything is amazing to play. (I do wish the sniper had a mine or something he could lay down).

Nades were gone because of nade spamming. Soldier, Spy, Demo, and any long range gun can take out a turret. Spy has the best way of taking them out with his sapper charges.

If you wanna take out those medics + heavy just get a soldier and a demoman on em. Wanna make sure you get them put medics on the demo/soldier.

I personally like being able to walk out of spawn without 50 grenades up my *edited* ^^.

I wish the medic could still spread aids.

I have no problem with what they have done and I think the only class that needs work is the sniper, out of any class it is the only one that I believe is weak.

No need to conc jump if you can double jump instead ;).

I’ve really enjoyed most of the new maps and think they chose the right theme for the game. Definitely worth every penny.

I played for about half an hour today. It looks great. I love the cell shading they did on all of the textures. Gameplay-wise I don’t like it that much. It seemed very hard to kill someone in the game, although I was only Heavy and Demo. Medics seem to ruin the game for me because they would just stand next to one big person and heal they faster than I could kill them. The only real reason I bought this was for portal and that isn’t out yet so I wouldn’t say it’s a waste of money.

It was my experience that the heavy could rip thru most classes easily as long as u aim properly. The only classes that it can’t rip to shreds are the soldier/heavy. If he has medics, kill his medics and get out of the way while your medics heal you :).

Playing the engineer and spy I didn’t once think ‘wow this is too hard to kill.’ I guess it just depends.

If you played the demo, he is the most explosive character in the game… When I played him I was killing groups of people fairly easily (until those pesky spies got me).

It is a great teamwork oriented game that really has improved upon a winning formula. It isn’t perfect but its definitely better than 90% of the other crap out there.
