SpectatorOk ATI lovers can any of you explain to me how the hell their ‘drivers’ system works cause as far as I can tell instead of releasing a patch you have to uninstall and remove every little bit of ATI stuff before doing a drive update right?

You have to do that with nVidia too. Or your supposed to at least.
You can overwrite existing ati drivesr, no guarantee on the stability tho.

SpectatorCause I have royally screwed up my drivers for my computer, they still work but the catalyst never loads right….
September 14, 2007 at 11:05 pm #26826Liam
SpectatorUninstall all of ATI’s stuff. Make sure you get the catalyst too. Install the default ‘standard vga driver’. Reboot. Delete the ATI folder in c:\program files.
Then reboot again.
Finally reinstall, see if that helps.

SpectatorTHESE CRASHES ARE A LIL BIT MORE THAN FRUSTRATING.
Yeah, it “recovers” and I can keep playing, but ffs the crash is BG!
September 20, 2007 at 12:45 am #27178blu3
SpectatorYup, re-retired. This time for much longer.
After playing through 7 display adapter crashes that recovered the 8th left me with a black screen so I had to hard reset the computer. I played through another 5 and then said *edited* it.
SOMEONE BUY MY WARLOCK. HE IS UBER.

SpectatorI just started playing source, and i see that you are #1. I’ve never played against you. Please just let me see if you really are the man.
September 20, 2007 at 7:52 am #27182blu3
SpectatorIt’s really too much of a headache to try and play — atikmdag stops responding and I’m dead in the water for ~ 10 seconds while it cycles, resets, and then I have to deal with another 3-5 seconds of extra super duper video lag. Yuck yuck.
I’ll be back when I get a new desktop.

SpectatorIF you play I can get you lotsa buttsecks!!!!…. FREE BUTTSECKS, your favorite variety.

SpectatorRevert back to windows xp pro man, you will get better performance, hell i will send you a xp disk with a valid and legit cd key. mailing address please?
October 8, 2007 at 12:52 am #28000blu3
SpectatorI have a legitimate key for XP Pro, but I can’t find my install disk.
More difficult than finding the install disk is finding a floppy with the SATA drivers so that the installer (from the bootable XP Pro CD) can mount my hard drive and install the OS!

Blu, I’ll be happy to mail you an XP Pro cd.
Alternately, you can download a cd iso from bittorrent.October 8, 2007 at 12:17 pm #28018Kuros
SpectatorThe newer XP Pro disks have the SATA drivers on them. I have to use it all the time at ResNet. Just look for an image of a newer XP Pro CD.
