I’m kind of interested to see how it plays also. Haven’t watched much of the gameplay, but it looks like a decent throwback.

so i’m thinking while we are on the 1900’s as posts are concerned, we should relate it to the corresponding year.

How Much things cost in 1967:

    Yearly Inflation Rate USA 2.78%

    Yearly Inflation Rate UK 2.7%

Year End Close Dow Jones Industrial Average 905

Average Cost of new house $14,250.00

    Average Income per year $7,300.00

    Average Monthly Rent $125.00

    Gas per Gallon 33 cents

Average Cost of a new car $2,750.00

    Movie Ticket$1.25

    Parker Pen Set $11.95

The Federal Minimum Wage is increased to $1.40 an hour

he went from a size 44 (i don’t believe this, i bet it was near 50) to a size 33. That’s a pretty good leap. 33 is a pretty healthy waist line imo. Hell I wear a size 40.

Huge space tourism expansion just months away:

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/10/15/space.tourism/index.html?hpt=C1

So my dream of going into space is that much more real. All you need is about 100 grand and it’ll buy you a ticket to 62 miles above the earth. I figure by the time I retire, the prices will go down enough to where we can all afford to travel up there. This is way cool.

It has nothing to do with audience targetting. The other networks aren’t even reporting on it. Targetting an audience means putting certain things on the homepage but still reporting on the rest. CNN/MSNBC/etc aren’t even reporting this. At all. You can’t find it anywhere on their website.

    You sure you looked?

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/10/14/health.care.challenge/index.html?iref=allsearch

it says it was posted 3 hours ago. I still don’t see how it proves a news organization is biased or unbiased. Just because Fox headlined it and cnn didn’t doesn’t mean anything. Besides, they change headlines every few hours anyway.

I thought it was pretty unprofessional what they did to Bill Oreilly. I hate whoopi and that one red head anyway. At least what’s her face defended bill a little, and knows how to be a reporter/host.

also it’s no fair you can edit your posts and not have the little edited by: thingy pop up

I’m sorry but how does that prove they are unbiased? Or let me rephrase, how does it make any of the news agencies biased for headlining one story over another? They are just targeting their audience.

inb4 fox news has the largest audience which means their headline is somehow better than another. Do you think everyone who watches fox news, is watching because they agree with what they say? Negative. A target audience isn’t always the ones that love you, *edited*ing people off will bring in listeners/watchers too. Besides, Fox isn’t the only group that targets it’s haters. Look at this article cnn posted earlier, the comments are polar opposite to the author’s viewpoint:

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/10/14/navarrette.pot.prop/index.html?hpt=C2

And while I’m on targeting audience’s, lets take a look at fox news’ “most read” article:

    http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2010/10/14/hosts-walk-view-argument-oreilly-ground-zero-mosque/

drama and extremism (bill oreily on one of the most extreme shows on the freaking planet) sells. The View hurts my head, actually most (extreme) feminists hurt my head.

so i don’t really want to verify the bit of info i just heard, but apparently Favre sent pictures of his penis to a jets reporter he was trying to hook up with. I think at this point, his porn career would be a lot more successful than his football game.

*edited* 28? that sucks. yeah i guess i meant mediocre compared to what some of my business and engineering buddies make. Yet compared teacher to teacher though, texas definitely treats us well.

more than enough for a single dude. I may move to egypt after a year though, the old man is running a private school funded by a group of companies in Cairo. Actually it’s more like a college prep. Started from scratch, they just got accredited and all the paperwork done. He has like 180 students. I would have a total of like 8 kids in a class, and get paid close to 60. And the real kicker is you don’t have to pay income tax in egypt.

As a teacher I get 25% off all books in Barnes and Nobles, 25% off McDonald’s value menu, 20% anything at Denny’s, free admission to all the museums on tuesdays, a dollar off the 5 dollar footlongs, 100 dollars free if i open a checking account with Chase, and a bunch of other things.

I’m not sure if it makes up for the mediocre pay, but hell it’s still pretty neat.

edit: tbh the pay isn’t that bad either. Starting off we get paid about 46K, *edited* good health insurance, and retirement is better than a good majority. If i last till I’m 65, I get over 70% of my top three salaries. hopefully by then I’ll be an administrator, making close to six figures. If you aren’t sure what to do after college, I would seriously look into education!

So let me get this straight. You honestly think people will buy it from the official store and not only pay the higher price but also pay taxes on it? The government can’t win a price war with drug cartels. It’s like buying computer parts, you can do it at a local shop and pay higher prices and taxes or you can get them online. Sure there’s some who pay more but most don’t. Just like shipping costs are often cheaper than the taxes, driving to the rough side of town will be cheaper than paying the taxes.

seeing how they already have stores which work, i see why not. Since when does someone buy tobacco or alcohol now a days from a bootlegger? If it worked to back in the early 20th century, why don’t you think it would work in a similar fashion now? The drug cartels will lose clients. At any rate, kudos to Arnold.

and your analogy is great and all, but both scenarios, whether a guy buys a computer from a retailer, or online, is still LEGAL. If it were illegal to buy online, people wouldn’t be doing it as much; UNLESS that was their only option e.i kind of like pot. If there were a legal option, a huge majority of people would seek that option rather than the illegal one. I know i would.

Everytime marijuana legalization comes up this is stated and it makes no sense. At all. If I go rob a bank in California you think they’ll let me go because the prisons are too crowded? Of course not. They’ll tell Bubba and Big Al to make their new cellmate feel at home.

Just because the prisons are crowded doesn’t mean the people who commit crimes aren’t criminals. It means you need to stop spending millions of dollars on special interest pork projects and build more prisons.

I think the logic is, millions of people don’t rob banks; yet millions of people do smoke pot or have occasionally. In the end we are just wasting money, creating B class citizens, and taking up resources (cops, prisons, etc) that could be used for more serious criminals like the rapists, bank robbers, thiefs, murderers, etc.

I could understand if it made money for the government. Come to think of it, at the real local rural level, cops make bank off of kids smoking. Once you get to millions of people though, big cities like New York, states like California, combatting marijuana just gets to be a useless tax wasting amount of garbage.

You’re the free market man right? Why not legalize it, privatize it, slap a tax and regulate it like tobacco and alcohol, and make some money?

what federal agent would go after someone who has less than an ounce on them? State > local, so unless you’re talking pounds and pounds, it’s a little more than just symbolic. Anyone with a joint (which by the way is the majority of arrests) will probably not get anything but a slap on the wrist.

on a slight tangent, over 200+ U.S. soldiers have committed suicide for 2010 alone.

    2007:164 suicides

    2008:187 suicides

    2009 214 suicides

It seems to be a real problem, especially with soldiers being deployed on back to back tours. The stats are crazy; I wonder what the stats are for suicides in our previous wars.

I don’t think anyone here is being insensitive with the remarks they have made so far. It’s a given that video taping someone having sex without their knowledge is something that’s sad and sick, etc. The level of the perpetrators sickness and sadness is clear as day. As Lemm pointed out though, killing yourself is not an option ever. It’s a very serious issue mentally, and unfortunately this guy wasn’t given the proper treatment before this event. It’s hard, a lot of people who are suicidal don’t exactly go around telling the world; which is the problem.

then of course you have the exceptions, like the guy who killed himself in the UT Library. He shot off a few rounds with an AK47 to gain attention, then flipped the gun around and blew his head off.

Regardless of their methods, suicide is insane, and there is no reason to ever get to that level. I do feel bad for them though, they just need help, someone to talk too, meds, etc.
