ParticipantSo..
dustin = adambomb
catamount = nodice
Who’s the new amerrill? SHOW YOURSELF!
I’m liking where this new recruitment drive is going. Next year should be awesome.

ParticipantOnce the first model is released the other manufacturers will reverse engineer what’s needed to make their own. MS chose Madcatz because they are the absolute best at copying gaming hardware and having them out of the competition delays the copiers 4-6 months.
I wouldn’t really buy a non-official headset until Logitech or Plantronics release one. If you’re going to spend $50 you might as well get a brand that’s worth a *edited* lol

ParticipantI’m still content with my DS lite but in a year or so I definately see myself owning a 3DS. I’m not really interested in the 3D so much as the better games that the new ARM chips open up.
Btw, new section is created and I moved all the DS and PSP threads here.

ParticipantRead my updated post. NDS hackers can’t even make proper DSi ROMs yet, I don’t think Nintendo is overly worried about pirating at this point. They won the last round and will likely win the 3DS round too. Yeah they’ll eventually lose, everyone who uses proprietary encryption does, but it’ll take most of the current generation for developers to make a proper dumper for it so they’re not really concerned.
It’s like playing pirated PS1 games on a PS3. Yeah you can, but why would Sony care? You didn’t buy the PS3 to play PS1 games.

ParticipantSo they plugged the same DS flashcards in and they worked on the 3DS. How exactly is that a fail? There certainly wasn’t any hacking involved. All they’re doing is playing DS games in the DS mode.
Keep in mind that all current DSi flashcards, except the CycloDS iEvo, play DSi games using the DS compatibility mode as opposed to the native DSi mode. Because of this, most DSi ROMs are being dumped without the DSi sections. Only a handful of J and F ROMs are actually proper dumps and the developers of the dumper have not, and likely will not, release it to the public.
So in reality, Nintendo has done a surprisingly good job securing the DSi and 3DS and apparently the current generation of DS flashcards is being banned when the next 3DS firmware update is released in the coming weeks.

ParticipantDo a search in the NC general statues. I know it’s in there somewhere because I’ve found it before.
You won’t find anything on the WCU website about it. Alternatively you can run it by the ICC director, if he approves it at least you won’t get in trouble if it’s against the rules/law.
MasterP
ParticipantThere’s 493 of the *edited* things now? Jesus, wasn’t 151 enough variety?

ParticipantYeah I wouldn’t wait too long on a reply from the school’s legal team, they usually never reply to clubs or organizations until either the day of or after the event.
The Honors college was going to host a poker tournament with ALL proceeds going to relay for life and after 2 weeks of advertising legal told them no the day before the event.

All this is in works and nothing is permanent yet, still trying to get judicial information on cash prize for games of skill just to make sure there will be no issue
Read over the NC laws on gambling. They also include this sort of thing and outline what is and is not legal for organizations to do and what percentage the cash prizes can be without triggering a bunch of extra rules.
Make sure you get the rules for non-profits, some sections of the code vary wildly between for-profit and non-profit organizations.

If we could id like to get a registration form put back up on the main page for lans like how it was a few years ago. With what games you plan on playing, and what equipment you can bring.
Contact Liam 2 weeks before the event. The system should already be in place it just has to be set up for the event and turned on.

ParticipantAfter the first semester the lab guy quit harassing us about having food and drink in the labs. He realized we didn’t care

MasterP
ParticipantHey man when you got work to do time becomes irrelevant.
Be glad you aren’t an engineer, for us caffeine is a viable replacement for both sleep and food. At least NCSU compensated by putting a mini-food court in their main engineering building, WCU however did not >.

ParticipantYou call that late?
You won’t by senior year

You might want to edit the thread title. It says the meeting is today
Done.
MasterP
ParticipantYeah you can’t just patch a new engine on the game. It doesn’t really work that way.

we got delayed in the console tournaments due to people getting upset and leaving after they lost, thus having to take their equipment with them
You can never anticipate something like this but next time don’t even bother asking them to bring it in. If you can’t depend on them to stay you’re better off planning to not even have their equipment to begin with.
The club doesn’t need to be buying controllers and expensive stuff, most of that could be borrowed from more reliable, aka less childish, people.
MasterP
ParticipantI’ll move all the DS and PSP threads there in the next da soon.

so you dont think its goin to be that good for console either.
Crysis is what it is because it was originally designed for PC. It was designed so that even 3 years later it would still be giving PCs a run for their money in terms of graphics requirements. When you take that mindset away, when you take a “be the best imaginable regardless of computing power” mindset and dumb it down to “be the best that today’s hardware can play well”, you lose what made the original so stunning and you definately don’t create something that gamers 3, maybe 4, years down the road are bragging that their computer can play.
I’m sure it’ll be “great” in the same way that MW2 was good little while and MoH was good for a little while. Will it be as good as the original and have staying power to last for years? Not if it was designed for XBOX and ported to PC and PS3. The PC version won’t even be shipping with DX11, which means the graphics engine can’t be much different than the original Crysis.
So to answer your question, no, I don’t think it’ll be great for consoles. It’ll be good for a few months but when Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 are released later this year Crysis 2 will fall to the wayside.

ParticipantYeah I remember spending $300 for a 500GB hard drive. To quote everyone at the time “you’ll never use that much space.”
MasterP
ParticipantI know PC gamers are rejecting this fast and cancelling pre-orders in droves. It’s incompatible with some of the higher end video cards and the whole “Press start to begin” isn’t exactly a good omen with how well it was ported to PC.
MasterP
ParticipantPaying for a hard drive for 5 years? Really?

how much that SSD set you back?
You seriously don’t want to know.

Participant6 or 7 years ago it did, today it’s mostly used by the tech illiterate who don’t know who the developers are or what it does to their computers while it’s running.
NINJA Clarification:
Skype is made by the same developers as Kazaa and while it’s running your PC joins their peer-to-peer network and is used as a node to forward and route calls and user location information. Skype actually owns very few servers as most of the network and call processing load is offloaded to the skype user network.

ParticipantWe could just make a handhelds section. Most handheld chat is DS/DSi related but every now and then a PSP thread pops up.

We’re currently using a codec which has 4x the quality of Skype but whatever floats your boat.

ParticipantYeah the people who installed Beta1 got screwed due to database updates since then (now on Beta30) so I had to redo the entire server.
It’s back up.

ParticipantServer is down ATM. I’m installing our 512 user license.
The club has been granted a license for 512 users.
If anyone would like to use for it clans/guilds, WoW raids, etc shoot me a PM and I’ll set you up a private channel and channel admin rights.
