ParticipantKuros, I demand you let me be lazy, come to my house, and setup IRC. I don’t feel like taking the 2 minutes it would take to install and connect.
See, you really are good for something!
Joking of course

Participantwooo, time to go annoy my family!
Maybe I can convince my dad to do my taxes. It is easy to do but I just haven’t had the time ^^.

ParticipantWill advertising be in the mix of topics discussed? Seems to be pretty hot right now ^^.

You seem to understand the gaming club mission, where as it is doubtful that others do.Generalizations aren’t valid. Please be specific. When you say ‘others’ who exactly are you referring to? Are you saying that Kuros is the only one who knows what this club is about? If that is the case then I would say you are incorrect.
In response to your comments on advertising: We are currently a fairly small organization and our resources are limited. I see no reason why any form of advertising would be considered a waste. The current advertising by us is stagnant. My point is, you have to start somewhere and generally the bottom is that starting location.
Excuse me for believing that any advertising by this club is better than no advertising. Everything we do in advertising has the possibility of recruiting someone new to this organization and university. Each person recruited is well worth the attempt. We cannot expect to start out recruiting massive amounts of people. You are right that we are not sufficiently funded. Actually the organization that gets the most advertising funding from this university is our marching band (most of which is self earned) and that wasn’t something that happend overnight.
Lets consider advertising across the nation the top and no advertising the bottom. We, in no way, can effectively advertise across the nation for this university. However, we can start advertising locally now as well as in the servers and IRC. I don’t really see a problem with any of it and I have yet to see a good argument against any form of advertising currently being done and/or considered.
Lets try to keep this civil and stop putting down everyone in the organization with the use of broad generalizations. I highly doubt that anyone in this organization is trying to break it apart so please stop making this assumption.

Participantwhat about bots for idlers?

wow the internet is horrible…..i know their are issues but this is ridiculous. The internet at unca is better then this. If the internet continues like this then i will probably not be going here next year. I mean you pay 9,000 dollars a year and the tv frequently doesnt work and the reception is horrible and the internet barely works. The internet for xbl is either barely working and you cant play anything or it will not work and sometime at like 5 in the morning it works wonderfully. But unless i want to start playing at 5 in the worning and at no other time then i guess im screwed. I know gaming bandwidth is very limited but i can use my pc all day long and the connection is fine. But right when i sign onto XBL it is horrible. It doesnt take very much bandwidth to just play xbl but it seems that the wcu internet can handle pc’s perfectly but it cant handle consoles at all. Before the club starts to advertise to get highschoolers to come to WCU because of the gaming club, the internet has to be fixed. Sorry for the rant but this is very annoying and you cant say you have been through this problem unless you are playing console games on the internet. Because the console lag is much more severe. Regardless of the internet issue i will hopefully be going to another college. Western isnt right for me and the internet issue sure isnt helping the issue. The TV problem is mainly mediacom sucking. I’m off campus and have terrible problems with it. As for the internet, they are upgrading between now and next semester and that should fix most problems.
I have no clue exactly what the problem is but from what I have gathered from different sources we have a choke point that needs a bigger pipeline and that pipeline is already in the process of being setup.
Do what you will but I would say be patient or move off campus like I did. I save about $600-$800 a semester living in my house as opposed to being on campus. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility. I would say don’t think you only have the option of joining another university.

ParticipantIn regard to high school fliers, I would have to say that many gamers would notice a well designed flier advertising gaming as opposed to a huge poster advertising a university. I know that I’ve barely notice any fliers around this campus or among any other campus but I always manage to notice anything about computer technology, especially in terms of gaming. Based on my personal experience I would say that a colorful advertisement for WCU and the gaming club combined would attract the attention of the crowd we are aiming at.
(how the hell do u spell fliers/flyers?) lol
As for ranking amongst servers, where did the data come from and what is the ratio between the population of people playing cod2 vs CS:S? I mean, you could be ranked 1st out of 200 or 300 out of 20,000. I do understand that COD2 is a popular online game and I think that, if it can stay populated, it should be hosted here for advertising purposes. (And of course being able to kill people with crazy old weapons is always fun).
Beyond that, I believe that the advertisement of the WCU Gaming Club in order to recruit students to this university should be done in all areas and it can’t be decided how effective this recruitment is until we actually start stronger advertising.
In response to your comment on arguing, I believe that arguing is a part of making a decision. Obviously flaming is an ineffective form of arguing. This doesn’t mean that I condone out right yelling at eachother or blasting another person repeatedly with harsh language. We are a free thinking and public organization. As such, I would say that discussing/arguing on these forums, without flaming, gives people an idea of how we work and it lets people know that we aren’t being fake. Lets face it, every organization has it’s heated discussions, and I believe it to be true that it is better to show everyone the face value of a story rather than pretend nothing happend. In regard to public heated discussion or ‘arguing’ on this forum, I think it is important for the public to see who we as an organization are and not who we pretend to be.
Just a few thoughts.

Participantall i know is that kuros only thinks hes a lord… in reality he is merely a peon.

ParticipantThe problem lies in the fact that we can’t schedule an admin to be on every hour of the day. Beyond that, recruiting just because we don’t have an admin ‘always on’ isn’t a good idea imo. As far as I can tell the admin try their best to be on as much as possible. Can’t just hand out admin to every joe that walks by. The more cooks in the kitchen the bigger a cluster it will become. The people in charge of yes and no for admin’s have their reasons and as I always say, it is just a game.

ParticipantAssault is hardest for the ct’s if you have about 5 t’s who know how to cover the entrances well(2 doors, front gate, 2 vents).
Of course, a good CT team that knows how to kill a camper can still win regardless.
Kappamerc
Participantmain reason i like it is because it lets me practice w/ the deagle ^^. I generally glock most of the time so it is a nice reprieve but do as you will! As long as the server has good maps, I’m happy.
Kappamerc
ParticipantI remember back when I used to run a local LAN center in my hometown we would always run that map in cs (whatever version it was in 2k1-2k3 lol. As far as I can remember that map was awesome. Dunno how much it has evolved though.
Kappamerc
ParticipantYeah, make it so that it can be voted/changed to deagle5 but not actually a live map.
Beyond that, tides is a server clearer, evertime i’ve been on that map people complain about how much it sucks. /shrug, I don’t care either way ^^.
Kappamerc
Participantyeh yeh i’m there
assuming i can find the stupid room. 2nd floor uc, beyond that i’ll be lost.
Kappamerc
ParticipantI’d reset every month

Participantwooo drama!
