ParticipantAfter a few emails back and forth about the details of our tournament –
JP –
Alright, right now I’m thinking $10 and $20 prize for each tourney redeemable on BringIt.com. So that’s $150 dollars of prize money. We’ll also send some shirts you can raffle off, along with wristbands for everyone. All we ask in return is that you take down your participants e-mails when they sign up for the tourneys (to alert them about future tourneys), take pictures of people wearing the BringIt gear, and make sure to remind the winners of each tournament to REDEEM their cash prizes on BringIt.com.
Any other questions you have, feel free to ask me… other than that, I look forward to working with you. I’ll get this package out by today, thanks man!
That's $20 on BringIt for first place and $10 on BringIt for second place for all our console tournaments (excluding MvC2) I would assume…it's actually more than I asked for, since I only suggested he send prizes for the games that BringIt deal with online (Halo 3, Gears 2, Street Fighter 4, and Brawl). They didn't take team games into account, but whatever. We'll distribute whatever he gives us as fairly as possible among our prizes.
And for anyone who doesn't feel like looking at the flyers in my last post to know what BringIt.com is, it's basically a middle man for money-matches between players in online video games. They also hold their own online tournaments with a flat entry fee, and big payout.
EDIT: I just realized that the $150 math still doesn't add up, but whatever. I'll see what we get when I get the package.

ParticipantApp actually had sponsorships with Papa’s Pizza and Cici’s Pizza, Felix. They got quite a few pizzas for free from Papa’s (which is an option for our Gaming Club too), and they only payed $3 per pizza from Cici’s (which our purchase order can’t pay for sadly). It would be worth looking into Papa’s as a sponsor, and maybe a better deal at Pizza Hut.

I was thinking about this possibility as well but we would probably want to use 2-3 computers for this and someone who knew exactly what to do would have to be at the door. This isn’t really a problem. All the people at the door would have to do is enter in someone’s name/tag/group into a tournament’s participants list, then double click their name in any additional tournaments they enter. The whole bracket section is just for us to use. Also, I can use my laptop for the brackets, and my flash drive to get the file from the laptop out front. That just leaves one more laptop to be found for them to use (and perhaps one more in case one of the other two fail somehow).
Eyce
ParticipantFor Teams, we might as well just use one of the entrants as a representative/leader for the team. Less info to put in that way. Like for Melee I would call Felix to a match seperately, but for Brawl I would simply call “Felix’s Team”.
This is also a good idea if someone from off campus teams up with someone from WCU; we can use them as the leader, and because of the seeding function will have less of a chance of fighting another team with an off-campus member.
EDIT: I just had another idea. If we had a laptop set up outside for tournament registration as people pay to enter, all we would need to do is come over and copy the LAN file/use it on a seperate laptop to run the tournament. We would leave the other laptop at the signup table of course, so as tournaments are being run people can still preemptively sign up for other tournaments.

ParticipantRydell, Domo and I’ll come with you and Nebs since you have the seats. And as Nebs asked, where should we meet you Saturday morning?
Eyce
ParticipantI’ll need a ride as well, I’m definitely going.

ParticipantLooks really cool, but I’ll just wait for the full release since I’m so busy lately.

Considering how popular ST4 was I’d say it would be adventageous to host it at least once more to gauge if attendees are still interested (which I believe they will be). It is very possible to do both ST4 and SC4 at the same LAN, as long as they are at totally different times and we nail down one system.Another thing to consider though, almost all of Soul Calibur and Street Fighter’s competitors entered both competitions (and a few people got excluded from Soul Calibur somehow, not sure why). Considering we’ve already established a following in Soul Calibur from previous LANs, we can’t assume that we would have a lower attendance if Street Fighter were to no longer be a tournament.

My suggested list for the next LAN:BRAWL.
SFIV and/or SCIV.
GoW2/H3/CoD4 (Urging that at least 1 must be there).
-Open-
-Open-
-Open if only one fighter was chosen above.-
This will most likely be how things turn out for the next LAN, after what we tried in this one. Brawl ALWAYS draws a big crowd, no question. It’s good that we had SF4, because it was new, but now that we see how *edited* it can be in a tournament setting I think it should be left for free play. It seems unanimous that holding dual console fighting games was a bad idea anyway.
However, I think it’s a good thing we went through with 007. I talked to a few people from Reynolds that only came because they heard about this tournament (I’m not saying we should vote it in again, but that hopefully they will return for the next LAN regardless). Gears 2 always draws a guarenteed following for the LAN, but while holding our 12:00 to 5:00 UC setup for a week before the LAN we only had 3 people total ask about a Halo 3 tournament. I have no input on CoD4 or Resistance 2, I never got any questions about them nor saw how Resistance was run (I heard there was a networking problem?).

Agree on all points.Note on bolded aspect. Yeah. But we would’ve never known had we not tried. If it was about 50/50 on console preference, I doubt it would’ve been as bad. Instead, it was 25/75, so it may be wise to move those games to PS3 only. The benefit of this is that there’s plenty of free play time on the 360 now which is a good thing.
I agree that we needed to try it once. Before the LAN I didn’t quite know if dual-console was going to end up as a positive or negative thing, but it’s definitely negative in hindsight.

ParticipantMost of my concerns have been expressed already, but I’ll make a short list.
+ The 360 stand being put outside was a good idea, but the suggestion of having it down on 1st is even better.
+ We got plenty of drinks this time, but the snacks went quickly. The spending ratio just needs to be tweaked.
+ The layout of the room was great without the stage being there. Only Rock Band’s location was a minor
inconvenience (we likely would have had Rock Band on the other projector if it wasn’t “broken”).
– General communication between execs needs to improve.
– We need to leave the microphone in one place, so everyone who needs to make an announcement can.
– Going dual console for the fighting games turned out to be mostly an inconvenience(time-wise especially).
– Door prize announcements need to be more organized, at the end it was just people grabbing leftover shirts.
I’ll think of more at the meeting on Thursday.

ParticipantAfter running some test fights in Brawl last night, I’ve decided to edit my rules a tiny bit. I removed two stages (Port Town A.D., Pictochat) one item (Green Shell) and clarified about team damage (forgot to mention it needs to be on). I also threw together an easy-to-read settings sheet to avoid confusion when setting up Brawl/choosing stages between matches.

I’ll print out a few copies and put them near each Wii setup as we ready them for the tournament, and hopefully it will help Brawl run more smoothly than in previous LANs.
However, I have not had a chance to test Goldeneye 64 yet. I’ll probably test it with Ephraim sometime this week.

– If both teams have equal stock, the team with the least total percent wins
– If both teams have equal stock and percent, Sudden Death will be played out

Goldeneye 007 Rules:
Play will be 2v2, Normal Mode, set to 5 minutes (best 2 out of 3 for the finals)
– Players can choose whatever character and control style they want
– Stage choice will be agreed upon by both teams. If they cannot agree, it will be random.
– Weapon selection will be agreed upon by both teams. If they cannot agree, it will be “random”; (The game has no random weapon function. It will be randomized manually between Pistols, Automatics, and Power Weapons)
– Auto-aim will be turned off, and there will be no player handicap
– If both teams end with the same score, they will play a round of You Only Live Twice with Golden Gun Fun weapon settings to determine the winner
For the second/third matches of the finals, the losing team can either choose to change the stage or weapon selection. The opposing team will be allowed control over the other option.
***Players are required to re-enter game immediately after being killed. (Re-entry into a game is possible the moment a player’s screen fades to black after being completely red. At this point, a player should have regenerated back into the game) Failure to re-enter within 5 seconds once will result in a warning. A second offense will result in the loss of one point. A third offense will result in the opponent being declared the winner of the round. These same 5 second offense rules apply to blocking doors (on certain stages, if a player is standing next to a door on one side it cannot be opened from the other side)

ParticipantToo epic an ending for App to handle.

ParticipantYea true Audyo. And I know that that it probably wasnt the greatest idea but weren’t we running more than one tournament at a time last semster? It wasnt to bad from what I remember, but we did do it. But it would be easier to run just one at a time.idk

ParticipantSo yeah Kazka, Nebs will cover both of us for the tourny, because he will likely win 60% of the pot for his assumed first place anyway.
Eyce
ParticipantI’d like to remind everyone staying over Fall Break that Kazka and I will still be setting up Soul Calibur 4 at Central at 6 PM, so feel free to drop by if you’d like.
Eyce
ParticipantYou should tell me about these things beforehand, of course I’ll help out.
Just make sure we have at least two systems set up with SCIV. I can bring my 360, if you can get me a TV to use.Eyce
ParticipantI’m hoping we get more SC4 players at the Saturday event, so we can both help people out. I’d start a Q&A thread here, but barely any of the players even visit the forum.

ParticipantEverything seemed to have went well yesterday apart from a few time issues/technical difficulties, and the console tournaments had an excellent turnout. I also liked the room layout this time, everything was alot more accessable in general, and there was minimal clutter. And of course, I had a great time.
Eyce
ParticipantThis was an excellent turnout for our first ever SCIV tournament, I’m very impressed. I’m glad I got to fight some skilled players, but I’m equally glad that new players decided to enter the tournament and have fun. I hope nobody was discouraged from entering again because of me and Kazka; it must look a little fishy that the organizers of the tournament got to fight each other in the finals, but I assure everyone that the bracket was truly randomized. I encourage everyone that entered to attend our Saturday gaming meets, whether to practice with Kazka and I or simply to hang out and have some fun.
And about the Vader issue, there were actually quite alot of 360 players entered in this tournament. From what I could gather, less than half of the entrants were PS3 users, and all of my opponents during the tournament (with the exception of Kazka) were 360 users. I’m all for Vader/Yoda being legal in the tournament, but ONLY once(or maybe ‘if’) they become downloadable content on the opposing systems.
And please, no complaining about Yoda either, his only advantage is that he can’t be thrown, and high/mid horizontal attacks can’t hit him while he’s on the ground (he does jump to high/mid range for almost all of his attacks).
Other than that he’s reeeally slow, and reeeally weak. I had 3 Yodas fight me last night at the after party, and none of them came close to winning (and remember, Asta’s one of the worst matches to fight Yoda, being that nearly all of his damage/combos derive from throws or attack throws). …of course, those three had never played Yoda before, and were likely intoxicated. But yeah, I really enjoyed this LAN, and look forward to the next.
