ParticipantThere’s hundreds of stupid glitches like that in Brawl. Also GL, I hope nobody stops you. If anyone complains, send them to http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Brawl+glitches and tell them to man up and use some.
Eyce
ParticipantLooks excellent, good job.
Eyce
Participant…that was awesome lol
I wish I was coming.
Eyce
ParticipantKaz, you started this topic as something urgent that needed attention immediately. Leaving it at “everyone chill, I got this” isn’t very reassuring.
Did you call Adam yet?
Eyce
ParticipantThere’s really nothing more to be said after Adam’s post. You guys need to amend the constitution to clear up some wording and be done with it, there’s no reason to demote the more valuable members of the club.

Oh, and I’m removing the Beam Sword.
Good decision.
Too bad it looks like I can’t make it to the LAN this time, maybe the next one.

Eyce
ParticipantThey’re adding eight characters to the lineup, three of which have been confirmed – T.Hawk and DeeJay, and a new character named Juri. You also forgot to mention how they’re releasing it as a standalone game, but it will only cost maybe $30-40 because they still consider it an expansion.
So if you bought SFIV the first time around, lol. Extra laughs if you bought a limited edition.
I’ll have to wait and see the changes they made for myself. If the game is actually fun to play this time, I might think of getting it.

ParticipantDefinitely a bad idea. I entered the last Halo 3 tournament you guys tried this in thinking I was gonna play with a buddy; instead I was with three random strangers, getting the least kills/most deaths (except for one round where I was top, but someone on the other team complained about something and we had to restart) and overall I didn’t have a fun time.

ParticipantBumper’s cool though, as it’s VERY short range before it stalls and does its job. Things like Baseball Bat and Star Rod are 1249715905 times more useful when thrown than using their smash though, it’s like a 50 mph Falcon Punch with infinite range and no startup lag. Too *edited*.

No man we did (or was it with Brenton or someone from tF? I dont remember lol)You guys played for like 5 minutes one saturday before getting back to SC or Melee, didn’t really count
Eyce
ParticipantOnly things I advise against on that list,
Mushrooms/Starman – Both of these could easily decide a match, and half the time spawn right next to someone/in their path giving them a free, large advantage.
Beam Sword/Home-Run Bat/Star Rod/Unira – Not because of their intended use, but they’re *edited*ing powerful when thrown at someone. Star Rod actually sends them at a downward angle I believe.
Fan – spam A, get lots of free damage, don’t get punished. It’s speed is too much to justify the damage.
Containers – Nothing sucks more than starting an attack, and an exploding capsule spawning in front of you before you swing, killing you for no reason. *edited* that.
Soccer Ball – really easy to kill things with, but it usually doesn’t fly where you want it to. Maybe this one doesn’t matter.
And the reason I mentioned stages is because DDD’s chaingrab = instant stock on any stage with a walk off boundary.
Other than that, it’s all cool.
Eyce
ParticipantKazka and Nebs never played this *edited* with me, man did they miss out. Game is so great.
Eyce
ParticipantPSP Soul Calibur tournament ftw. I’d come and rep Dampierre.
Eyce
ParticipantSup guys.
*edited*, those are alot of stages you’re allowing this time for Brawl. I hope nobody knows there how to use Dedede.

ParticipantSC4 Finals had some amazing hype – a ZASALAMEL made it into the top 8, along with a Voldo, a Cassandra, a french Ivy, two Amys and two Hildes.
The french Ivy, Malek, won first place in the finals against KDZ (Cass).
OmegaMitsurugi (the Zas) won his first top 8 match against the Voldo (in losers), but then counterpicked Nightmare against a Hilde and lost. KDZ tried Astaroth against an Amy and got sent to Losers, where he had to fight BOTH Hildes and took the victory both times.
These were some amazing matches. Mad respect to Omega, KDZ, and Malek for doing so well against everyone.

Participantlol, they’ve done a horrible job with the feed so far. There were a few straight hours yesterday of “technical difficulties” (aka giving us a blank screen), and more blank screen today for the majority of when they were going to show SC4 for us. :/
What they showed us:
All of yesterday – only SF4 pools
Early today – SF2T HDR pools
Before today’s black screen – four matches of SC4 pools
When they came back – lol nothing but SF4

ParticipantSo far I’ve read (opinions) that it’s really slow-paced for a GG-style game. Some people have compared BlazBlue to Brawl in relation to it’s slower pace and overall easier gameplay compared to it’s predecessor, but I don’t know how drastic the difference is (having not played it yet/not played GG in forever).

ParticipantI think my suggestion was misunderstood – I’m not suggesting to replace Brawl with Melee. Through my own analysis and logic, I only suggested Brawl as free play for the plethora of reasons in my last post. Don’t take offense to this post Ephraim, but I’m going to use bits of your post to provide examples of the usual logic when it comes to choosing LAN games, because you covered it well.
Ephraim said:
My support for Brawl is not based on some sort of fanboy-like devotion, but logic. After a year and a half, the game still packs in the contestants. That is why I want the tournament to stay. This is normally a great way of doing things. However, I suggested doing away with it for reasons surrounding Brawl specifically. There would be the lowest negative impact on our playerbase if this game were free play, with the highest return of tournament speed up. See my last post for reasons why.
Ephraim said:
…considering the plethora of possitive reviews and the fact that it is now the 40th best-selling game ever released. Can’t argue that, but it’s really just another point for how casual it’s playerbase is. These same people are the ones that come to the LAN for free play mainly.
Ephraim said:
But back to the LANs: Attendee enjoyment must take pecedence over competition. Competitive gamers regularly come to the LANs, so it is good to keep them happy. But, the club does not exist to cater to them. This is another big reason why I suggested that it become free play, you just used it the other way around. The only Brawl players that I consider truly competitive that enter our Brawl tournaments now are Angel and Devon, who come down from App for the prize every LAN. As I already said, most all of our entrants play Brawl to PLAY Brawl, not to hardcore compete in Brawl. It’s the most casual playerbase we have, so let’s cater to them and have some Brawl stations set up through the whole event, instead of imposing a tournament timeframe on it. The way it is now, less people get a chance to play Brawl because of the holdups and conflicts with other tournaments.
Ephraim said:
The time issue can be resolved with faster disqualifications. This I dissagree with, it just gives off a bad impression and makes the event feel rushed to me. Rather than having more tournaments for people to enter with the good chance that they’ll be DQ’d in one, I think it makes more sense to hold less tournaments that we know everyone will get a fair chance to complete their rounds in.
Ephraim said:
One thing I will give to the competive gamers is the importance of good prizes. Fun may be king, but realisticly, sweet prizes almost always result in higher attendance. If we could afford cash prizes, I’d be all for it.I don’t remember what the opposition for it was, really. Lets just do that *edited* if the majority agrees.
Eyce
ParticipantMy personal dislike of Brawl doesn’t factor into my suggestion of making it free play only, but the opinions and priorities of the people who enter it’s tournaments do. I’ve talked to our Brawl entrants often between matches, and I’ve found that at least 80% of them come to the LANs either for a different game or free play – Brawl is just a way to pass the time for them.
Yes, I do know that a small percentage of entrants play the game regularly. Ephraim does obvously; Matt F. plays Brawl with his group of friends every once in a while (Matt would play Melee more, but his group of friends are more about Gears 2 than anything else). There were two girls who showed up to the first LAN of last semester that came for Brawl specifically, but didn’t show up to the last LAN. You can throw in Angel and Devon too if you want, since they’re the ones who get the prizes.
But for most everyone else, it’s just for some good laughs. Zack, for example, just chooses Jigglypuff and uses Rollout the whole time. Kelly will just choose Kirby, because he looks cute. This is why I held Brawl with items enabled recently, since the majority interest in the game preffered to play for entertainment rather than competition. If Brawl was setup on a few Wiis as background free play for the event, the players that usually enter Brawl to pass time until their favored tournament, could instead drop by for a few pickup games. This sounds like a better option than waiting to be called, and possibly losing after one match, leaving them bored for a while.
But MOST importantly, I believe making Brawl free play would majorly alleviate the holdups we get when waiting for entrants to finish matches. I didn’t note this in my first post, but more people enter Brawl as a ‘secondary’ tournament than any other; Brawl gets connected to the wait times of FPSs, Fighters, and PC games, which makes it the one game that slows down the whole event the most.
EDIT: Even if you think I’m wrong about everything else, this last point is very valid. And I’d rather provide a smoother run, better overall event to everyone who comes than provide a bunch of conflicting tournaments just to make sure we get the largest attendance possible.
Eyce
ParticipantActually Mike, I was suggesting only 4 games. One new Fighter/FPS and one repeat Fighter/FPS. I’m sure we’d still have Brawl set up for free play under this, except we wouldn’t have to spend prize money on it and it would be played by more people since the Wii’s won’t be set aside for a tournament. Angel and Devon might be dissapointed, but there’s maybe five people on campus that even take Brawl seriously, two of them being Ephraim.
Eyce
ParticipantWell I’m still allowed to come back, but it’s that whole issue of paying for it. I don’t have a single family member with good credit to cosign on anything.
Eyce
ParticipantOh of course. I expect SC4 to remain our most popular fighter for quite a while. I knew it was deep, but even I didn’t know how deep it was until I payed attention and read some stuff on 8WR over the summer. Just to give you an idea, I now seriously play Asta, Nightmare, Hilde, Setsuka, Vader, Yun Seung, Sophitia (for the rage), and Rock. I should have played more with you last semester instead of *edited*ing around in Rock Band so much.
Kaz-Ka said:
…and some new mechanic like the rage system from MK vs DC but it only happens when a character is VERY low on health). This could be a much better implimented feature than Rage was, since it’s a last ditch effort in a fight. I’ll wait and see how it is.

ParticipantThe next Console VP will have to try to unify the console side of the club more than we’ve been, since “seperate groups holding seperate tournaments” just caused a lot of problems.
I covered alot of things here late last night (like at 4:00 AM, I probably should have posted it in this subforum instead). What I basically said there was that the Console section of the club has been growing, and our current way of running tournaments isn’t working in everyone’s interests. I explained what I thought the issues were, and what we might do to fix them.
Btw, If I’m not back next semester, it’s because I pulled a Brenton.

ParticipantWell I never thought the Tekken juggles were unfair exactly, just mildly funny and out of place in a hand-to-hand fighting game. I think I told you my history with Tekken before too. I played Tekken 1 on Playstation due to having no other fighting games for it, and because Paul had Guile’s hair+2. Then a few years later a friend in high school invited me over to showed me Tekken 3 or 4, can’t remember which. I tried it and mentioned how it felt exactly like playing Tekken 1, then I showed him DoA 3. We never went back to playing Tekken after that.
Then last year you insisted on showing me Tekken 5, and I just laughed on the inside because they still hadn’t changed anything noticeable about the game. I’ll still give Tekken 6 a try if you get it, because I don’t think it’s a BAD game. It’s just that the changes they’ve made over the years (to my untrained eyes) seem to be nothing but more characters and better graphics. Kinda what they did with SF4, except they added *edited* *edited* like Focus attacks/cancelling and called it an improvement.
Eyce
ParticipantI was originally going to post something on-topic and make a small comment related to Oh Malley’s post at the bottom, but that grew into a whole new topic about improving the way we run Consoles at the LAN. See here – http://www.wcugaming.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12093
Anyway, SF4 is just overall boring to play and watch. Promotes turtling and projectile spamming too much. I don’t even like the Tekken series, but I think it’d be more fun watching people get juggled like balloon animals than HADOUKENHADOUKENHADOUKEN(*edited*framed Ultra)HADOUKEN, etc.
MKvDC would be a better choice than SF4 in some ways, but I still don’t like the game. That Rage mechanic is *edited*ing stupid. A bar that fills up when you attack, regardless of whether you hit or not, that allows you to attack more without worry of being flinched out of anything once you activate it. Translation: “Spam some *edited*, then activate your spam meter so you can spam some more *edited* safely.”

ParticipantThe new PSP Go is obviously marketed towards people who don’t already own a PSP, are tech-savvy enough to buy and download all their games from PSN, but somehow don’t know about the PSP’s huge hacking scene for 1000’s/2000’s…
Who was going to buy this again? Or at least, where will Sony’s profit come from I wonder.
Also, *edited* yeah Maverick Hunter X.

ParticipantHey Adam, in the Roster section of the signups, would it be possible if you could put people’s full names next to their Alias’s? That way I could enter them all into our Tournament Maker database, which would make at-the-door registration even easier for anyone who signed up online.

ParticipantHarril RA’s don’t give a *edited* about flyers. I posted a bunch in Harrill, only one is gone.
