SpectatorI’m not complaining about the notice given, my complaint is about how the maps are selected. As much as gets voted on at the meetings that seem kind… stupid… I would think maps would be something that gets a vote, especially since most people have a definitive preference. Perhaps this could be an option in the next application that people pick when they register for the lan.
Btw, I’m not complaining about Contra because it is a very good map for competition so long as teams are allowed to prepare in advance. It’s not the best map for throwing 24 random people in a server, randomly generating teams, and telling them to have at it. Neither of the people sitting next to me had ever played that map and I imagine they weren’t the only ones. Granted it was announced days in advance but it’s hard to find servers running Contra that are populated to practice on.

SpectatorActually I was refering to the Gamecube and Wii which both use a mix of software and hardware but ok…
Anyone noticed a difference in Xbox live lag?

SpectatorI’d like to suggest that tournament maps be voted on in advance at the meetings. That way we can play what everyone likes instead of something only a handful of people have ever seen. *Cough* Contra *Cough*

SpectatorNone of the other backwards compatible consoles have any extra latency because they are running a previous generation game so I don’t imagine the Xbox would either although that would be an interesting thing to look up.
I have forwarded the Xbox Live! ports to AJ so they should be cleared through the filter within the next couple business days.

i have never heard of that but i just hope the internet is fixed bec this is rediculous…..the internet has gone from bad to “i think im just going to go to sleep bec i know the internet will be as slow as dial up.” So if it is not fixed by next year im gonna be even more *edited*ed and im not sure i can beGet the ports the games you like use and email them to AJ. Like gxti said, at this point it’s more of a packet filtering problem than it is a tube size problem. I was getting 800-4000ms pings in one of my games and when AJ cleared the ports I got
Thanks again Adrian.

The brackets will be decided by a random drawing, of course (out of a hat, or whatever)Melee has a buit in system that randomizes the matches once all the human characters are created.

SpectatorTeamspeak’s voice quality is higher than Ventrilo when the admin’s set the server up correctly.
Ventrilo uses GSM 6 and 11. Teamspeak uses CLEP 5 and 7, GSM 14 and 16, and Speex 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 16, 20, and 25. Each of those represent Kbit/sec baudrate.
If Ventrilo was still free I’d say use it but it can’t do anything that Teamspeak can’t.

The WCU DNS administrator wishes me to inform you that he Resents your remarks about his server being the root cause of the internets issues as of late.*Points at Joe with a hurt look on face*

so, my theory on the internet outage recently is a failure of the school’s DNS server. I was able to get on the cs:s server thanks to the IP address i had in my favorites. But anything with a name, like gaming.wcu.edu, nada. jack squat. nothing. So that’s my theory, the DNS server / service is barfing.
Your theory is correct. The local DNS server is crapping out.
Also, Joe says it’s DNS and since he’s the master of all things that light up and make cool noises he must be right. <_>

SpectatorStarcraft, the Homeworlds, Age of Empires 1-2 (not 3), the Earth series, the Battlezones, Empire Earth, Hegemonia, Empire at War, Rebellion, Warzone 2100…
Pretty much anything but Warcraft <_>
I think an RTS tournament would be a good addition to a LAN event. The only downside is that some of these games can take hours to finish so participants may have to pick between an RTS or multiple FPS.

Spectator64-bit stuff can address well into the terabytes of ram. The only exception to the 32-bit memory limit is using Server 2000/2003 Enterprise or Datacenter.
The 32-bit OS’s and processors are locked at 4GB because they can only address 2^32 bytes. 64-bit proessors can theoretically address 2^64 bytes which totals 16 exabytes but I doubt we’ll be seeing that anytime soon.

Spectator4GB is the maximum a 32-bit processor and/or OS can address so you wouldn’t notice the extra 2GB unless you got a 64-bit processor AND 64-bit OS. WinXP 64-bit isn’t stable enough right now to be worth maxing out your system.

SpectatorSparxport… that wouldn’t happen to be related to Right-Click would it?
