SpectatorThe other 4gigs of RAM that is.
Once it’s made its way through the WCU purchacing office I’ll let you know.
On a side note, I suppose that also means that I’ll have to take the server down in the near future in order to install the new goodies. I’ll try for sometime over Fall Break (October 18-22) to do the install since less people will be around then. Unless of course there are objections, in which case I’ll try to follow the majority of suggestions from the group.
Of course that all depends on when the order actually goes through and TechDepot ships it.
I will keep you all informed.

SpectatorThat sounds like some serious RAM. I look forward to seeing what it will do to my K:D ratio, cause it could really use some help.

SpectatorYou probably won’t notice much of a difference… although we might be able to host another game or 2 if people want them

SpectatorI could use 4GB of extra RAM 😐 Mmm, maybe I’ll buy some. Though I’d need a new motherboard to take more than 4.

Spectatorlol i will show you 4 gigs…lol
September 28, 2006 at 4:15 am #12318j0rm4n
Spectatori wish i could max out my 6GB. that would be the major pwnage right thurr
September 28, 2006 at 10:32 am #12327MasterP
Spectator4GB is the maximum a 32-bit processor and/or OS can address so you wouldn’t notice the extra 2GB unless you got a 64-bit processor AND 64-bit OS. WinXP 64-bit isn’t stable enough right now to be worth maxing out your system.
September 28, 2006 at 12:57 pm #12330Adam Faulkner
SpectatorMasterP the CPU says were using about 7 gigs of ram currently. We will see a diff relative to having just 4 gigs of ram. GO POWA!

Good thing we’re using the ram on a server class machine (hp Proliant DL360), with 2 64 bit processors (AMD Opteron 250’s) and windows server 2003 (which supports multiple 64 bit processors)
September 29, 2006 at 12:38 am #12354MasterP
Spectator64-bit stuff can address well into the terabytes of ram. The only exception to the 32-bit memory limit is using Server 2000/2003 Enterprise or Datacenter.
The 32-bit OS’s and processors are locked at 4GB because they can only address 2^32 bytes. 64-bit proessors can theoretically address 2^64 bytes which totals 16 exabytes but I doubt we’ll be seeing that anytime soon.
Kinda interesting link http://windowssdk.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us…y/ms694080.aspx

Seeing as how I rock the 64-bit and run linux 100% of the time I’m not gaming – I think I fall into the qualifying category. And yes, win64 is awful.
